Overview
The Converged Wireless System (CWS) CWS-2050 is the latest models in the
CWS-2000 series (2x20W). CWS is a software-defined, multi-technology, multi-
CWS-2050 carrier base station product family that integrates baseband, radio, filter/power
amplifier, edge aggregation, and backhaul router into a single compact form factor
device. It supports 3G and 4G in the same form factor and band is indicated in the

support multiple spectrum. SON on the HNG actively manages and monitors CWS’. This ensures
sectors that they are not disruptive to the rest of the Macro network, that proper power
control is maintained between systems and guarantees other users in the same
geographical area are not adversely affected. This improves the overall network
performance towards a higher customer QoE (Quality of Experience).

The CWS supports 3G/UMTS and 4G/LTE resulting in fewer sites due to the support of multiple
technologies/dual carrier capabilities on the same hardware, which helps drive the overall deployment costs
down. This also provides carriers with a migration path while they deploy VoLTE, enabling a Circuit

Switch Fall Back (CSFB) solution for customers and emergency calling. Each unit can support two carrier
per baseband: either 3G/3G, 4G/3G or 4G/4G of similar bands. These capabilities are software adjustable
and help to achieve better resource utilization and spectrum efficiency by means of joint resource allocation
and load balancing across the downlink carriers. Each CWS-2050 is capable of 2x2 MIMO operation for
4G that helps with capacity improvement in the network. 2T2R 4G capability will allow CWS to transmit
a maximum RF power of 20W simultaneously on each antenna for the total of 40W RF output power from
a single CWS-2000 family unit. If it operates as a 3G (1T2R)/4G (2T2R) dual carrier, it will transmit 20W
split between 3G and 4G on the first transmit port and additionally, up to 20W of 4G on the second transmit
port.

Wi-Fi can be supported via any Wi-Fi AP connected via PoE connector.

The CWS hardware connectors allow for different backhaul input (fixed, Ethernet, satellite, wireless).
CWS backhaul capabilities can be enhanced with wireless mesh by simply connecting a wireless mesh
backhaul module (BHM) via a standard RJ45/Ethernet interface/Ethernet cable. Multiple CWS’ can daisy
chain to each other to form a mesh cluster which eliminates the need/cost for other types of backhaul.

BHM-201 has two radios (to support multiple mesh networks, or a mesh network plus an LTE-backhaul
connection) and external N-type connectors to allow mobile operators to choose their preferred antennas.

The mesh radio supports all 5GHz bands commonly used in the US, Europe, and Asia and the maximum
outdoor EIRP for each region.

Deployment Scenarios for BHM-201:

• Multiple radios deployment (ex: one LTE and one Mesh)

• Usage of own antenna
• Metal housing preference to the plastic

LTE backhaul is enabled by a commercial UE and can operate on any

commercial LTE band.
