PRESIDENTS OF THE PHILPPINES AND THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS FOR THE COUNTRY

 EMILIO AGUINALDO (1899 – 1901)

- To create peace between the Philippines and Spain, Emilio Aguinaldo signed a truce
named Pact of Biak-na-Bato, signifying the end of the war of the two countries.

 MANUEL QUEZON (1935 – 1944)

- Manuel Quezon created the National Council of Education (Executive Order no. 19,
1936)
- The rights of women to vote commenced during his presidency and was initiated by him.
- He authorized making Filipino as the national language of the Philippines.
- For Philippines to become an independent country he fought to implement the “Tydings-
McDuffie” Act

 JOSE P LAUREL (1943 – 1945)

- Made action regarding the scarcity of food by altering the system of rice control agencies
giving farmers more recognition.
- Created the Ministry of Economic Affairs and hired experts to make local medicines,
food, and other commodities for the lack of imported items.

 SERGIO OSMEÑA (1944 – 1946)

- For Philippines to rise again after the invasion of the Japanese, Sergio partnered with
U.S General Douglas McArthur to begin re-establishments.
- During his rulership, Philippines joined the International Monetary Fund because of the
renewed Philippine National Bank.
- Bell Trade Act was passed, an act approved by the United States Congress indicating
official trade between the Philippines and the United States.

 MANUEL ROXAS (1946 – 1948)

- Roxas aimed to resolve the socio-economic problems of the Philippines during the
period of his presidency; Rehabilitation Finance Corporation was formed and so was the
Department of Foreign Affair, the GI Bill of Rights for Filipino veterans, and taxation laws
emendation for the government revenues to grow.

 ELPIDIO QUIRIO (1948 – 1953)

- Implemented Social Security Commission and Integrity Board to observe if there are
activities of graft happening.

 RAMON MAGSAYSAY (1953 – 1957)

- Committee on Guerilla Affairs which helps to secure passage of the Rogers Veterans
Bill, benefiting the Philippine veterans
- Manifested patriotism by wearing Barong Tagalog during his inauguration
- The Philippines’ “Golden Years” era for its absence of actions leading to corruption
during his presidency.
- For the betterment of agriculture reform, Magsaysay initiated National Resettlement and
Rehabilitation Administration (NARRA).

 CARLOS P GARCIA (1957 – 1961)

- Puts local businesses first over foreign contrarians also known as “Filipino First Policy.”
- Garcia established the Austerity Program to focus on Filipino trade.
- Cultural arts was brought back during his time of presidency

 DIOSDADO MACAPAGAL (1961 – 1965)

- For every individual to have equal opportunity of owning a land, Land Reform Law was
created
- Declaration of Macapagal for June 12, 1898 to be the Independence Day of the
Philippines.
- Creator of the Philippine Veteran’s Bank which is owned by Philippine World War II war
veterans and their families to cater to both corporate and retail financial markets.

 FERDINAND E MARCOS (1965 – 1986)

- The rise of infrastructure in the country


- Increased of military and armed forces.

 CORAZON E AQUINO (1986 – 1992)

- The return of democracy


- Introduced the new Constitution of the Philippines and terminated the Marcos
Constitution.

 FIDEL V. RAMOS (1986 – 1992)

- Commemoration of Philippine Independence Centennial in 1998 was presided by


Ramos
- An understanding was proceeded with the rebel Moro National Liberation Front which
can be proven on paper.

 JOSEPH EJERCITO ESTRADA (1998 – 2001)

- Took part of the emendation of the 1987 Constitution

 GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO (2001 – 2010)

- There was economic growth much more distinguishable before three presidents who
ruled before her
- EVAT Law (Expanded Value-Added Tax), which focuses on paying its international
loans, was executed during her presidency.

 BENIGNO S. AQUNO III (2010 – 2016)

- Implemented the K – 12 education in the Philippines which aims to provide a holistic


education for all Filipino students.
- Growth in the Philippine economy was ruled in 2012 under Aquino’s rule.

 RODRIGO DUTERTE (2016 – PRESENT)

- The legislation of The Bangsamoro Organic Law, which establishes practice that every
individual in the Bangsamoro region is given the same opportunities and necessities
essential in living.
- The environmental action done for Boracay, Manila Bay, and Laguna Lake which
consists of rehabilitation and cleaning of waters.
