Part one:

1. The difference between nationalistic and patriotic

Nationalism means to give more importance to unity by way of a cultural background,
including language and heritage; a nationalist is proud of his country no matter what it
does. Patriotism pertains to the love for a nation, with more emphasis on values and
beliefs and the patriot is proud of his country for what it does. The first attitude creates a
feelings of blind arrogance that leads to a war while the second a feeling of responsibility.

2. Identify the radical pacifism Rizal had taken in “My last farewell”
Radical pacifism refers to a particular nonviolent movement. These are people who
refuse to fight in any war and took active steps to undermine the war system, were mostly
from Christian peace churches and also were influenced by Ghandi. The radical pacifism
Rizal had taken in “My Last Farewell” was saying goodbye to his homeland, he
emphasizes in the poem that in his death, he is finally finding freedom from the
oppression and enslavement the Filipinos face at the hands of the Spaniards. Jose Rizal
fought against the war through writing novels and poems and if we have read well the
works made by him, we will realize how blind and weak Filipinos were at that time. In
order for the Filipinos to open their minds and eyes of what is the real happening behind
manipulations of Spaniards to our beloved country, Rizal signals and signs was written
down in a certain book which is El Fili and Noli Me and also in creating poetry instead of
having a violent war. It was a good strategy to send what he wanted for us Filipinos to
know and to do during those times of calamity made by the Spaniards, to overrule our
country. And because of that, Rizal truly inspired us.

Part two

1. Classify your Panay heroes/heroines that belong to Nationalism/Patriotism.

2. Heroes(why)
The classified heroes of Panay belong to nationalism and patriotism because they value
the Filipino identity and they encourage their fellowmen to participate in the revolution to
protect our country from being stolen to us. They serve the nation with industriousness
and being a productive citizen by thinking a way or strategy how to fight against the
colonizers. They became aware of what is happening behind the manipulations of the
Spaniards towards us and they didn’t let it just pass through. Even though we are being
attack by other countries these heroes of ours also help in preserving the Filipino culture
that we have. Filipino nationalism begun with an upsurge of patriotic sentiments and
nationalistic ideals in the 1800s Philippines that came as a consequence of more than
three centuries of Spanish rule. This served as the backbone of the first nationalist
revolution in Asia, the Philippines Revolution of 1896, and up to this day. These
nationalistic sentiments created by our Panay heroes and others have led to a wide
ranging campaign for political, social, and economic freedom in the Philippines.

3. Create your own Epitaph

“There shall be no darkness nor dazzling but one equal light: no noise nor silence but one
equal justice”
