Course Description:

This course comprises the knowledge of internal structure of words known as


morphology and sentences structure as syntax. Together, morphology and syntax
deal with core of the grammar of a language. Grammar is a major focus to understand
the complexities in language, therefore, the course will help students to improve their
academic writing. Moreover, they will be able to understand linguistic description
and analysis of a language.

Teaching Method

Lectures, discussion, in-class exercises, homework, assignments and projects.

Goals & Objectives:

 To provide the students practical skills in order to identify structure of words,


phrases, clauses, and grammar of language. Since grammar is no longer a
major focus even in schools, most students have little understanding of basic
notions.
 It aims to make them identify POS, large grammatical constructions and
constituents and enhance their understanding of complex structures and
agreement constraints.

Students Learning Outcomes:

 Students will develop understanding of the structure of language and its


morphological systems and processes
 Students will develop understanding about grammatical relations and their
expressions and variety of complex sentence phenomenon.
 Students will develop knowledge to undertake grammatical analysis of
unfamiliar languages also.
 Overall, this course will enhance the students’ interpersonal understanding,
teamwork and communication skills.
