6. Repeat steps 1-5 until all nodes have been deleted from the RAC Cluster / undergone the OS upgrade / added back into the
RAC cluster.

Alternative Method

Note: This method may only be used in an environment where Oracle Grid Infrastructure is installed on a file system
separated from the Operating System and Grid Infrastructure is still running the originally installed version. For Grid
Infrastructure configurations that have been upgraded, please use the 'Traditional Method' (including deleting / adding
nodes) outlined in the last section. Also: this is a NON-ROLLING method. When following this method, all cluster nodes will
be (re-)configured.

To proceed: note that you will need XWindows or a Response file to complete the steps in this section

1. On the node to be upgraded, take a backup of /etc/oratab, /etc/oraInst.loc or /var/opt/oracle/oratab, /var/opt/oracle

/oraInst.loc (depends on the platform) and Oracle inventory (oraInventory/*) defined in above oraInst.loc file. Be sure to also
backup /etc/ocr.loc and /etc/oracle/olr.loc.

2. Deconfigure Oracle Grid Infrastructure:

As root user
# cd <GRID_HOME>/crs/install
# ./rootcrs.pl -deconfig -force

3. Perform the OS Upgrade as per OS requirements

4. Restore /etc/oratab, /etc/oraInst.loc or /var/opt/oracle/oratab, /var/opt/oracle/oraInst.loc (depend on the platform) and Oracle
inventory (oraInventory/*) back to their original locations if they have been removed during the OS upgrade

5. If ASMLIB (Linux only) is in use on the cluster, install the required ASMLIB package(s) and then configure ASMLIB on the
newly upgraded node. If you are unsure if asmlib is in use, please verify by running 'df -ha'. When ASMLIB is configured, a
special filesystem is created and mounted: /dev/oracleasm (Reference: Document:359266.1)

For Linux:

# /etc/init.d/oracleasm configure -i
# /etc/init.d/oracleasm restart

6. Perform a relink of the Grid Infrastructure home

As root user, unlock the home:

# cd <GRID_HOME>/crs/install
# ./rootcrs.pl -unlock

As the Grid Infrastructure owner, relink the binaries:

$ export ORACLE_HOME=<GRID_HOME>
$ <GRID_HOME>/bin/relink all

Reference: How To Relink The Oracle Grid Infrastructure Standalone (Restart) Installation Or Oracle Grid Infrastructure
RAC/Cluster Installation (11.2 or 12c). Document 1536057.1

It is also recommended to relink the RDBMS / RAC home:

2 of 3 12/08/2019, 1:29 PM
Document 1559762.1 https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?_afrLoop=18...

As the RDBMS / RAC home owner, relink the binaries:

cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib
make -f ins_rdbms.mk rac_on ioracle

7. Run root.sh to configure Oracle Grid Infrastructure

As root user:
# cd <GRID_HOME>
# ./root.sh

Note: this step will not work for upgraded Grid Infrastructure environments due to crsconfig_params not being
updated during the GI upgrade

8. Repeat steps 1-7 for all other cluster nodes
