INTRODUCTION

Video games are one of the most popular sources of entertainment in Status Quo. It is an
electronic game that creates a connection to its user through feedbacks on a visual display device.
It can be beneficial for it is a stimulator that may enhance our mental performance and it can also
be a platform for socialization. According to ESA, 62% of gamers communicate and play together
with other gamers.

However, as of May 2018, the World Health Organization labeled video game addiction
or gaming disorder as an International Classification of Disease that involves highly prioritizing
gaming rather than other activities, this can lead to anxiety, depression, obesity, sleeping disorders
and stress. According to ESA, about 32% of gamers are below 18 years old, and the Kaiser survey
stated that the average time consumption of a teenage male in gaming is about 9 hours. This is
alarming because it may affect the education of students because the victim would rather choose
gaming over education.

In local Filipino communities, one of the major reasons for cutting classes is playing video
games on internet cafes. The gamer, or the victim, would usually be in group to play these
multiplayer video games, thus, not only affecting one but rather multiple. This goes to show that
it may affect the education of the victims as they would rather play than to study and be in lass.
What makes it more alarming is that high school students are most susceptible in doing so, and
this is the period of an individual’s life and health where they are most vulnerable to the
environment and shapes their behavior.

The students of Bayugan National Comprehensive High School – STEM (BNCHS –

STEM) conduct a community-based project website named “Project PLAYER 1, PLAY YOUR
LIFE.” This website enables High School students to learn and be informed about awareness of
the effects of gaming disorders one one’s education and health, also, to not discriminate gamers,
rather, encourage them to manage their time on gaming and education. In this way, the students,
can effectively manage addiction and be entertained at the same time.
A wise person once said, “Play the game, but don’t let the game play you.”

effects of video games to their health and daily lives. How it can possibly destroy their future
and their physical and mental health.

playing and raise awareness on its effects on a person's health and education
METHODOLOGY

Player 1, Play your Life is an advocacy mainly to give awareness about Video Game
Addiction or Gaming Disorder which prioritizes gaming rather than other activities. In relevance
to this, social medias are great tools to connect with people. Thus, we will create a page in
Facebook that will contain information about our advocacy.

The about page of Facebook will contain the Vision and Mission of our advocacy. Also,
graphic presentations about video game addiction. Homepage will include our introduction, related
studies about video game addiction, the cause and effects of this form of addiction and solutions.

People should be educated about the effects of video game addiction to his or her education
and its risks to one’s health. And we strongly believe that through this platform, people will be
able to think twice before committing into something that may hinder the future that lies ahead.
