INTENSITY OF MANETIC FIELD

OBJECTIVE:
1. Determine how the magnetic permeability of the circuit influences the intensity of the
magnetic field.

MATERIALS:
1. 1 Direct current machine
2. 1 Supply module DL 10281
3. 1 Measurement module DL 10282

PROCEDURE:
1. Carry out the circuit shown in the previous topographical diagram by using at first only
the stator of the direct current machine, without rotor.
2. Set the supply module DL 10281 for constant direct voltage 32 V/ 14 A: selector
“a0b” to position “a” and switch L+/L- to position “0”.
3. Set the ammeters and the voltmeter of the measurement module DL 10282 for direct
current measurements and observe the polarities (+ at red terminal).
4. Activate the supply module and switch on and off again and again the excitation
circuit F1-F2 by means 0f L+/L- switch: ammeter A2 series connected to the coil F5-
F6 does not provide any indication.
5. Deactivate the supply module and connect the commutator rotor.
6. Activate the supply module again and switch on and off again and again the
excitation circuit F1-F2: on the ammeter A2 now an index deviation will be noticed
and this owing to the decreasing of the magnetic circuit reluctance because the rotor
is present too.

ANALYSIS OF DATA

In this experiment, the students were tasked to observe the effect of changing the
connection of wirings on the stator. On the first part, the students were asked to connect the coils
F1-F2 and F5-F6 in concurrent series to demonstrate how does the magnetic probe will react
when it is placed in the stator. The result shown that the red or positive side of the pole is
vertically positioned upward. On the second part, the students were asked to change the position
of F5 and F6, and F1-F2 remains to make it in series opposition connection. The result shown
that the blue or the negative side of the pole is on the upward or vertical position on the stator.
This demonstrates that where there is flux available, the position of the poles is following it and
the magnetic field is perpendicular to the current to make the poles move to its respective
direction.

CONCLUSION

The reaction of the poles in the stator was caused by the magnetic flux present on its
respective direction. Interchanging the position of the excitation coils will have a different result
just like what occurred in this experiment. The first part makes the pole of the magnetic probe to
point upward due to presence of magnetic flux in that direction. However, on the second part, the
direction of the pole was changed and the negative side was pointed upward because of the
changing of positions of the coils that is in series opposition connection.
