from The Straits Times, 21 April 2018

a) Who are your identified tourism stakeholders to help in promoting your farm
site?
The tourism stakeholders that helped in promoting firstly is the Beijing
Television Station (BTV) where the launching of the documentary was held.
Second is Ms. Kong Roatlomang, The director of ACC’s education, culture,
and tourism division. Third is Ms. Qin Lei, The chief director of the
documentary and lastly Jose Santiago Santa Romana, The Philippine
Ambassador.

b) Do stakeholders have to agree on a common vision in developing a

destination? Why?
Yes, stakeholders have to agree on a common vision in developing a
destination because having common vision illuminates one’s purpose so that
all they would be completely clear about what they are doing, why they are
doing it, and how their work relates to what they personally believe in. Also to
see themselves as part of a larger whole and they see where they fit in. Day-
to-day activities have more meaning because it is clear how they contribute to
the greater welfare in developing the destination.

c) What are the benefits of working with internal and external stakeholders in
developing farm tourism?
One benefit is engaging with different perspectives provides opportunities for
learning and potentially changing your approach to ensure it fits the needs of
stakeholders. Also, understanding the views and interests of your
stakeholders can lead to more effective decision-making and provides an
opportunity to reflect on what will and will not work, and why.

1. While farm tourism is not a new concept, it has yet to benefit many poor and
landless farmers and the other agricultural workers. What benefits of farm
tourism site can it provide to the local community? Kindly discuss/explain your
thoughts on this with supporting related literature following proper APA citation.

Farm tourism provides benefits to the local community educationally,

environmentally, financially, socially, and in economic aspect. According to
National Agricultural Law Center, It gives producers an opportunity to generate
additional income and an avenue for direct marketing to consumers. It
enhances the tourism industry by increasing the volume of visitors to an area
and the length of their stay. It also provides communities new employment
opportunities. Additionally, farm tourism provides educational opportunities to
the public, helps to preserve agricultural lands, and allows developing business
enterprises. While it may create new potential revenue streams, it also presents
new legal issues for farmers and landowners.”

1. Another challenge to farm tourism is safety and security? Kindly discuss/explain

your thoughts on this with supporting related literature following proper APA
citation.

I agree that safety and security is another challenge in developing a farm

tourism site. Parts of the countryside are still the hideaway of insurgents who
may prey on unsuspecting travellers and kidnap them for ransom. Safeguards
should be in place to protect farm tourists against rebels or bandits and usual
criminals (Concept News Central, 2018). In developing a farm tourism site,
farmers should consider most especially the safety and security because it is
also one of the motivations of tourists in going to their desired destination. Also,
farmers should prioritize some factors like having fire-fighting facilities, 24-hour
security personnel ensure safety of guest, safety signages, a well-stocked first
aid kit and emergency skilled personnel especially that the activities in farm
tourism is risky for tourists and for farmers, even if farmers are well trained.
According to DOT (2015), a 24-hour security personnel; appropriate safety
signages; Off-limit areas; fire-fighting facilities; first aid kit and proper parking of
equipment should be available to ensure the protection of both guests and the
management.
