Teachers,

Please note, at two excused absences, the teacher contacts the parent/guardian by
phone, email, or in person to inquire about support that we can offer students. In
addition, after four unexcused absences the teacher will contact the parent/guardian
again to discuss the causes of truancies and offer suggestions for improvement.

Make sure to inform your dean and Jen Horner of all contacts (e.g. ‘cc’ on the email),
for documentation purposes in case the absences escalate to an A-CAP or a referral to
Wayne County Prosecutor’s Erase Truancy Program, where documentation is needed.
Thank you for your assistance with reminding parents that minimizing absences to only
those that are absolutely necessary will have a positive effect on achievement.

Keystone recognizes that regular attendance at school and arriving on time are vital to
a student’s success in the classroom. Our records indicate that Kyra has four absences
since the first day of school.

We understand that students get sick or situations occur where a student cannot
attend school. I just wanted to inform you of our attendance policy and see if there
were any school factors that were contributing to Kyra’s absences that I can assist with.
