“Every child is a potential genius”. This simple saying has a deeper explanation.

It simply
tells us that each individual has the capacity to learn and has the privileged to be educated. It also
tells us that each and every individual is unique and special. Every individual has that certain
talent and ability which he or she can be proud of. And in this contemporary world of ours it is
but the duty and responsibility of the schools and teachers to let a certain individual develop
these innate talent and abilities. On the other hand it is also a great challenge for teachers to
attend to this diversity of learners.

Truly indeed, we can’t deny the fact that learners are very diverse; diverse in many
aspects of life from their family-cultural background up to their social status in life. We may
even mention that they have also their own personality. This fact should be face courageously by
teachers that we are not dealing here with robots that what would be the programmed software
they will follow. We are dealing here with living individuals with their own free will and choice
and thus it is our obligation to fit in our strategies in teaching to their learning styles and multiple
intelligences so that there would be a maximization of learning. In dealing with these kinds of
learners we should always take into consideration what would be the method we will use, what
strategies we will employ so that we can win in this battle wherein only this kind of battle
wherein at the end the two parties will win and have benefit; these parties namely the teacher and
the students. The students will learn and on the other hand the teacher will feel the fulfilment of
his/her mission in this world. We are now facing the global challenge of the 21 st century.
Education is not exempted of this challenge. As teachers although we are teaching only here on
the eastern most part of the country however we must still act globally. As it is said “Teach
locally but act globally”. It means that we should teach in global standards and one of the
standards of global teaching is that we must know how to deal with the diversity of learners; we
need to find a way wherein we can help our students develop their individual intelligences. May
it be academically or vocational because as teachers in my personal point of view as well as part
of my own philosophy in teaching it is very important to help these individual students develop
their innate talents and abilities for them to be able to answer the needs and challenges posted
upon them by this modernized world. Thus, I also believe that this is also one of the goals of this
institution to help these learners develop such individual talents that is why this institution have
provided a variety of learning materials to produce a globally-competitive learner. This is part of
the endeavour of the Department of Education that all schools whether private of public will
produce such individuals.

For me, the diversity of learners is not a problem but rather it is challenge. A challenge
that would help the teachers like me to use all of my abilities to cater such needs of the learners;
as well as it is a way so that I can develop my full potential not only as a teacher but also as a
member of this global society of ours. To cater the needs of my diverse learners also by means of
various methods and strategise in teaching is a way also that I can fulfilment of what teaching
really means. That teaching is not just a profession but at the same time it is a mission and a
vocation that to be answered and be fulfilled.
