CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Nursing is an extremely complex profession, but it also needs great cognitive

abilities: making decisions, critical thinking, and managing people. It includes
that nursing internships are intended to offer students new experiences and
give hands-on practice advantages (CreativeNurse, 2016) Retrieved from

clinical experience it can make the transition of being a nurse student to a
working nurse easier. Nursing students will practice what is it like on both job
and to see a particular focus in a clinical setting (The Importance of Clinical
Experience, 2016) Retrieved from

nternship. Being a student intern and college senior, balancing of time is
really a common problem of young students. Internship also deals in a lot of
responsibilities and works to help everyone in practicing the different ways in
performing a proper adjustment of each two (Kong, 2015).

The professional commitment plays a big role in different profession because

it is where we can see if one person is really committed on what they are doing.
As noted by McComb, professional commitment is more relevant where the
profession is more meaningful focus for an employee than the organization.
As work becomes more specialized, society has a need to retain people in
particular occupations. The significance of professional commitment helps the
academic staff — which may be called as their professors, tutors, or facilitators
to continue their profession to develop specialized skills, and how professional
commitment among Nursing students relates to patients' safety and providing
quality care (Mohamed & El-Shaer, 2013).

Through this study, it aims to know if the varying internship schedule really
affects the professional commitment of nursing students, and if the senior
students can properly balance the responsibilities that they committed on
these tasks. On the other hand, the researchers provide an alternative and null
hypothesis to proposed an occurrence in the study. The Alternative
Hypothesis in the study is The varying internship schedules of Centro Escolar
University senior nursing students have a significant effect on their
professional commitment while the Null Hypothesis is The varying
internship schedules of Centro Escolar University senior nursing students
does not have a significant effect on their professional commitment.
