b) Now a capacitor is connected in series with the auxiliary winding so that
maximum starting torque is obtained. Find value of this capacitance.

(ii) Value of the capacitor necessary to make auxiliary and main winding
currents in quadrature

21) The standstill impedances of main and auxiliary winding of a 240 V, 4 pole, 50 Hz single

capacitor to be inserted in series with the auxiliary winding to get maximum torque at
starting.

22) The standstill impedances of main and auxiliary winding of a 1 kW, 220 V, 6 pole, 50 Hz
single phase induction motor are: rm = 1.6 Ω, xm = 3.2 Ω, ra = 4.2Ω, xa = 6 Ω. Find the
value of additional resistance to be added to the auxiliary winding in order to give
maximum torque at starting.
