Vastu Sastra
Before preparing a plan to build a house, home, shop, apartment complex, school, colleges, industries, factories, hospitals,
public buildings…etc. the basic Vastu rules are to be learnt and referred. These rules are derived from the age old practices,
Vedic scriptures and scientific facts. By following these rules people can fine tune the Vastu energy by balancing the Natural
elements and creating a free flow of these energies inside the buildings without fail.
Most of the religious scriptures of Hinduism explain the way of peaceful life through rules called Shastra. It is like telling a kid
that if he tell lie God will pluck his eyes to educate him about the truth.
Many people think that Shastras are olden words and not suitable for present centaury. But the fact is they were written for the
benefit of mankind to be followed at any period of life. Only thing is to understand the basics and logics for applying them to
suit to the present way of life and culture.
Vastu Myth or Truth

Many people think Vastu is a myth and people are being misguided. But the truth is never flowed by large mass and false
theories do not sustain for log time. The basic principles of living are explained in Hindu Mythology as stories and formulae, so
that even uneducated people can follow them as they may not understand the exact logics behind the formulae.
A simple equation is always better memorized and followed rather than tough explanations. Sages and saints in not only
Hinduism but all the religions followed this to educate and cultivate important factors of life to their followers. Vastu Shastra is
a great science with logic based on scientific truth behind everything said to be followed.
The Sanskrit word "Vasthu" means "any really existing or abiding substance or essence, thing, object, article", and also "goods,
wealth, property". The Sanskrit words "vrddhi", "vaastu" takes the meaning of "the site or foundation of a house, site, ground,
building or dwelling-place, habitation, homestead, house".
Like “Pancha Thanthra Stories” or “Esop Stories” explains the way of life through simple stories most of the Hindu Mythological
stories tell us the true way of living a peaceful life. All the Rules of Vastu Shastra are derived from scientific facts hut are capsule
in few formulae so that common people can simply follow.
Vastu Rules
The following table shows a simple ready reckoner for learning the basic rules of Vasthu Sastra, for building a house.
The building is divided in to 16 parts and each has specific Vasthu basic theory behind dividing it. While planning a design for
your house you can divide your plan also in to 16 divisions and design as per our suggestions. (Refer above drawing for
corresponding number)

Maintaining bed rooms are very easy as per Vastu, to get a great life. We spend the whole night here and can eaqsily gain the good
Vastu energies while in sleep without any efforts. If your bed room creates good energy you can sleep well, get up early and work
actively the whole day. And to say least if you don't sleep well, have lot of dreams, wake up with confusion regularly then the main
cause could be the bad arrangements in your bed room. Check these points and confirm you are right with Vastu and correct what
are all possible.
Master Bed Room
As per Vastu Shastra the master bedroom should be in the south-west corner of the building, in every floor. The main earning
member or the Eldest of all should stay in the master bedroom of highest floor. This room can be used by father or the eldest son, or
who controls the family expenses.
Normally people use the Master bedroom for safe keeping the valuable and important things they own. That is why Vastu prescribes
strict instructions for the position of master bedroom. The south west corner of the house is called “Kuber Moolai” in Vastu Shastra
and its good Vastu vibrations are very important for financial steadiness of the owner.
For getting good financial wealth by Vastu principles a good heavy locker has to be positioned and kept in the south-west corner of
this bed room. All important documents of properties, bank pass books, cheque books, account books, cash, jewellary, silver vessels
and ornaments have to be safely kept in this safety locker.
Whatever things are stored in this place will grow and prosper the owner of the house. The person staying in this room will lead
others in the family and control them in all aspects. Vastu suggests that this portion should never be rented out or provided for guests
or children. If children stay in this room, their studies will be spoiled and character might become worsen. Southwest corner of the
bedroom should never be left empty.
The other bedrooms as per Vastu Shastra can be provided at the south (positive) and west (positive) direction of the house. It is also
recommended for the eldest son, provided the parents stay in the master bed room. The second son or next earning member of the
family can stay in this room. If the master bedroom or bedroom of a married couple is in the south-east direction of the main
building, it results in unnecessary quarrels between them and some of them get divorced also.
Vastu Tips
Beds should be placed so as the head of the person should be in south or west direction.
The bedroom should not be constructed above porch, car parks and kitchen.
The bed rooms should not be in the central portion of the building or in the basement, as it may lead to mental instability in person
using such bedrooms.
If any cabinets of almirahs are constructed or placed in the bedroom, which contain valuable documents, cash, jewelry etc., they
should be positioned in the south-west corner of the room and as such the doors are opening towards north or east.
An attached bathroom to the bed room can be planned in the north-west or south-east of the room, but never on south-west or
north-east direction.
Entrance door to the bedroom may have a window opposite to it.
If there is more than one floor, the head of the family (elder person) should have a bedroom on the upper floor and in the south-west
corner. This room should never be used as a bedroom of young children, or unnecessary quarrels are likely to occur in the house.
The southwest side of the house and all the rooms inside the house should always be heavier than the east and northeast side.
Maximum open space should be left in the northeast side of the bed rooms and toilets or bath rooms should not be provided at this
corner.
Avoid keeping a TV in the bedroom. If a TV is kept, it should never be in front of bed, as it works as a mirror and keeping a mirror in
front of bed generates negative energy. The dressing-table in the bedroom should be kept west or south direction, so as these mirrors
always face the east or north direction.
The mirrors kept in the bed room in the dressing table, cupboards, shelves etc., should be positioned so that they don’t reflect the
bed. If they reflect any person while sleeping they will suffer from any disease which can’t be cured fully.
Reading and writing activities can be carried out in the north or east side of the bedroom. The door of the bedroom should be in the
east, the west or the north but never on the south-west corner of the bed room. Having windows in the east and north and smaller
windows in west is beneficial.
Study room
As per Vastu Shastra Study room can be located in the north-east, east, north-west and portion of the house, but never be in the
south-west and south-east corners. Hindu Gods Lord Budha (Mercury), Lord Guru (Jupiter), Lord Chandra (Moon) and Lord Shukra
(Venus) are the Gods that give intelligence and education to Children. Vastu directions for study room are based on their effects and
positions in Jyotish Shastra.
It is better having a study room in the west direction, as mercury increases brain power, Jupiter increases ambition and curiosity and
Moon helps in the generation of new thoughts and ideas. Venus helps in the growth of talent.
The doors and windows shall be positioned so as the sun light is not obstructed to flow inside the study room.
Windows should be larger on the eastern side and smaller on the western side of the room.
Study table should be placed in such a direction that the face of the student while studying is towards the north-east, east or north.
Book rack and cabinets should be placed in the south-west and northwest of the room and never in the east, north, south-east and
north-east directions.
No cabinets or tables should be placed in the center of the room. It is best to leave the center portion of the study room empty.
Guest Room
The north-west corner is ideal as a guest room as per Vastu Shastra. This is the corner denoted for the Lord Vaayu and denotes
movement. Guests so placed in this bed room mean that they will not stay unduly long.
The south east corner is also a better option for a guest bed room.
The north, east and west parts of the house also can be considered as guest room.
But the south-west corner of the house should never be allotted for the guest room.
Kid’s Bedroom
For getting good sleep in the night and freshness when waking up, the children's bedroom must be fully Vastu compatible. Getting
high marks and ranks are directly depending in the position of bedroom and study room of the children.
Often even intelligent and bright students fail to achieve their goals just because of the bad Vastu vibrations in their bed rooms. If
their rooms are not as per Vastu the memory power and confidence levels are badly affected due to the negative energies of Vastu.
If any children seem to be excellent in intelligence and activities but poor in performance in the exams parents must take steps to
check their bed position, study table position and the place where the books are kept. If these Vastu factors are not corrected, their
hard work is wasted and prosperous future is lost.
Vastu Shastra must be followed to get the complete good vibrations to make them healthy and mentally sharp.
As per Vastu Shastra Children's rooms can be in the west, north or east of the building. A north-west corner and west side bedroom is
best for children. A north- east corner bedroom can also be used for unmarried children or guests.
Vastu Tips
As a general rule of Vastu, there must not be any mirror opposite to the bed in a bedroom. A television screen is also considered as
mirror, when turned off, and so even a TV is not allowed to be kept exactly opposite to the bed. But as people generally insist on
keeping a TV in bedroom, it can be kept to the right or left of the bed at angle for a comfortable view from bed.
The children study table can be fixed in the north-east corner of the room. The bookshelf should not be fixed near the north-eastern
corner, but preferably on south and west walls of the children’s room.
The bed or cot in the children's room can be in the southwest portion of the bed room with head position in the east or south
direction.
The door of the bathroom should not be exactly opposite to the bed. The furniture in the room should be placed a few inches away
from the walls, as it saves the positive energies of body and mind.
The study table, if placed in the bedroom, should be placed so as to ensure that the child should face east, north or north-east while
studying. Facing east ensures better concentration while studying.
A television should never be placed in the bedroom, but if it is necessary it can be placed in north-west of the room. And a computer
can be placed in south-east corner of the room.
Uneven Sized Plots
Before buying plots, houses, shops and factories people must observe the shape and size of the plot. Some plots are defective as per
Vastu Shastra and needs to be corrected, before constructing any building with proper guidance from a Vastu Consultant. Otherwise
the construction will be delayed and harm the owner in various ways.
One of the main reasons of Vastu defect of a plot is its size. The square and rectangle shaped plots are the best ones as per Vastu
Shastra. The magnetic waves are created and surrounded evenly in these plots.
If the sizes or shapes are not symmetric these magnetic forces are distributed unevenly and affect the Vastu energy. Some houses,
shops and buildings can be observed vacant and unoccupied even in main market places. One of the reasons is the size of the plot or
shop which damages the Vastu energies of the place.
While developing the layouts some times the size of some of the plots are not equal, of course it is avoidable if the developer has
some knowledge of Vastu or at least consult a Vastu expert before planning the layout.
Vastu Effects
In our research we have found that even though the buildings are as per Vastu Shastra, the people living in the plots with uneven size
complaint about serious misfortunes and hardships in their life. This main point must be remembered that even if some portion of the
site may have to be sacrifices to correct the defective plot, the outcome is a peaceful living and not the money wasted.
Every place creates a magnetic energy as per Vastu. The energy is related to shape of the plot. Vastu Shastra instructs that only
square and rectangle plots emit and circulate good vibrations. Round, irregular, triangular plots always reflect bad energies.
When the plot is not rectangle or square the magnetic effect is unbalanced and is completed. The proper flow of energy is assumed
with the shape of the plot and irregularity will lead to disconnected and disturbed magnetic waves.
For example if a plot is uneven, extending in the north-west direction, it is bad as per Vastu. Supposing without correcting, a house is
built on it, the owner and the people living in this plot will have these following problems.
 The males will be addicted to some bad habits.

 Often some things are missing and burglars take away jewellary and cash.
 The land owner gets in to legal battles and losing his cases in the court of law.
 The social status gets diminished and creates loneliness to the land owner.
 The family members get into quarrels and always the house is noisy.
This plot can be corrected by making the north-west corner at right angles as below, by wasting certain portion and leaving that
portion to the road.
Plots opposite to Road
Some plots are very defective and causes innumerable troubles beyond imagination and rectification, when a road, street or lane falls
opposite the plot, house, shop...Etc. While some of these plots under certain conditions are favorable to the plot owner, few can
damage the good effects of the building. But every defective plot can be corrected with correct advice from a Vastu consultant.
Before buying plots, houses, shops and factories people must observe the locality and notice if there is a road opposite of the
particular site not only in the front side but also in any of the side.
Some houses, shops and buildings are often vacant and unoccupied even in main market places. One of the reasons is a road opposite
of the plot or shop which damages the Vastu energies of the place.
While developing the layouts sometimes the roads happen to fall opposite some of the plots. Of course it is avoidable if the developer
has some knowledge of Vastu or at least consult a Vastu expert before planning the layout.
This road opposite a building is called "Theru Kuthu" in Tamil and "Poison Arrow" in Feng Shui. It is always better to consult with an
experienced Vastu Consultant to determine whether a road opposite a plot is good or bad.
Vastu Effects
Many shops can be observed in crowded places also not doing well which are opposite a street. Even where the cost of the plot is
very high few places are always vacant because of a lane or street opposite to that place.
But some are very good and prosperous even though they face a street opposite to their plot. This is the Vastu energy which are
created by this street some are good and some are bad. In Chinese Feng Shui this phenomena is called as "Poison Arrow" and in Tamil
it is called as "Therukuthu".
Always an experienced Vastu Consultant must be approached for rectification. By doing simple rectifications prosperity can be
achieved. If not rectified by proper Vastu methods serious misfortunes may happen and whatever investments and efforts are taken
might go wasted.
For example in a south-west corner plot, if there is a road opposite to its west of south-west corner it is a major Vastu defect. This
road being at a wrong direction as per Vastu Shastra can cause the following troubles to the plot owner and the people living in the
house.
 The plot owner may meet with accidents, which can hospitalize him for very long time.
 The people living in the place may commit suicide and die.
 Sudden and un-expected death of elderly people living in the house may happen.
 The females living in the house may become mentally ill or get incurable disease.
 Huge financial loss in business due to unforeseen circumstance can make the owner popper.
 If the main door is kept in the west of south-west corner, the plot owner may go to jail due to a quarrel, can get heart
attack, major surgery, accidents of fatal in nature, ..Etc.
Vastu remedies for correction of defective plots and houses:-

Vastu Shastra suggests many ways for correcting the defects. Consulting an expert Vastu consultant is suggested to get the best
remedial action.
1. These plots can be corrected by dividing the plot in to two, where by the portion opposite the street becomes a separate plot.
2. Shops, Garages, Small temples, Gardens, etc. can be built to divert the bad effects.
3. Separate compound wall must be constructed as explained in the picture below:
1. Vastu Rectification of plots that is defective due to roads opposite south west corner and south east corner.
2. Rectification plots defective due to roads opposite south west corner and North West corner.
VASTU FOR DOOR, BATH ROOM AND WELL:-
Before designing your new house, you must learn few basic concepts about Vastu. People often get confused of reading lot of books
about Vastu. This article about doors, bath room, sump and bore well gives you some important advice about the best method for
building a house.
Doors
1. Vastu perfection of a house and all the rooms is based on the position of the main door and other doors only. Hence due
care must be given while planning the doors in a house.
2. The number of doors in a floor can be in odd numbers. The main door has to be wider and higher if possible compared to all
other doors. Always doors should not be directly fixed with columns.
3. Doors can be fixed after constructing a brick wall at least for 6 inches width. If the main door and the rear door are aligned
in same line, i.e. exactly opposite to each other, it brings good fortunes to the house.
4. While fixing the main door it is good to perform a Pooja. In Hindu culture it is a habit of keeping small pieces of nine
precious gems and five precious metals. The faith is that they give blessings of the God while people pass the doors every
time.
5. The main door must have a rail made of wood at the bottom. The other doors may or may not have a railing at the bottom
as per convenience.
6. The number of main entries must be contained to a maximum of two only. Three doors can be provided if separate portions
in the main house for any other purpose like for renting is built.
Bath room
1. The east and west portion of the house is best for constructing a bathroom as per Vastu principles. The morning and
evening rays of the Sun are believed to be extremely beneficial for Health as Vastu is mainly based with the Sun Rays, hence
proper windows should be provided in the bathroom.
2. The sun light disinfects the bath room. The slope of the bathroom floor should be towards north and east so that water
drains to the north-east side of the bathroom.
3. A geyser can be installed in south-east of the bathroom.
4. Taps and shower can be in north so the water drains to the north-east.
5. Bath tub can be on the west side with head-side in south.
6. Avoid a door on the south-west of bathroom.
7. A washing machine can be placed in the north-west or south-east portion of the bathroom.
Toilets
Vastu for Toilets suggests, toilets should to be in the north-west and south -east corner of the house or building or bedrooms. Avoid
constructing a toilet in the center of the building, south-west and in the north-east of the building. When it has to be an attached
toilet, let it be to the northwest side of the particular room. The second alternative is the southeast of the building or room.
Toilets should never be constructed adjacent to kitchen and Pooja room as per Vastu Shastra, as the bad energy will spoil the purity
and divinity.
As per Vastu Shastra north east corner (Eeshanya) is the junction of Kubera and Indra, it is said that toilet in the north-east may
gradually weaken the Finances and the general prosperity of the master of the house. The children and elders may get diseases and
often visit hospitals.
As per Vastu Shastra Toilets built in the south-west corner of the house makes the owner of the house financially weak, indecisive and
his health may suffer. South west corner of a room or house must be totally avoided for constructing toilets.
Please Note:-
1. Have the bigger window on the east and north and a smaller one in the south and west directions of the toilet.
2. Position the Toilet seats facing south or north and never facing west or east.
3. Mirrors in the toilet may be on the south and west walls.
4. Doors can be on the east or north direction.
Sump, Bore well and well

Water is one of the Five Natural Elements and considered as a Goddess in Hind mythology. The water body in a house must be
properly positioned as per Vastu Shastra.
If a Sump, Bore well and well is to be created in the house, the best is to plan it in north-east corner, east (positive) and north
(positive). As the sump and well stores lot of water, it cools the earth. When the water is stored below the ground level has the
character to reduce the weight of the place and brings in with it the natural energy of the Mother Nature.
If while commencement of a new construction, a well is found in the plot, but is in the wrong direction, it should be closed and filled
with good quality clean sand and a new well be dug in the direction as suggested according to Vastu. It is advisable to excavate the
well or sump as the first work whiles the commencement of construction.
Vastu Tips
1. The Sump, Bore well and well should not be in front of the main door of the house.
2. It should not touch the compound wall or the main walls of the house.
3. It should not obstruct the Gate in the compound.
4. Clear space should be provided from the septic tank so as to ensure there is no seepage from it.
5. Sump, Bore well and well should never be dug if any of the women in the family are pregnant.
6. The Sump and well must be cleaned every three months.
7. A Portion of the Cover should be kept open with filters, so that enough ventilation remains inside the well or sump.
8. Otherwise a pipe of at least 8 inches diameter must be fitted at a place with a height equivalent to the height of the ground
floor for ventilation.
9. If the well is closed without providing ventilation, it brings in disasters to the family members.
10. The well water must be used at least for the gardening purpose every day, as abandoning the well water may cause serious
setbacks to the peace of the family members.
11. If the well is found to be polluted by dead creatures, the polluted water (as much as possible) should be removed and Pooja
should be performed to cleanse it according to local traditions.
Vastu For Doors in a flat:
The doors in a flat or apartment is very important aspect of Vastu due the position of it lead to lot of other Vastu effects
indirectly. If the door is positioned properly, the things and furniture can be placed as per Vastu rules, if not everything will go
wrong and affect the overall Vastu energies of the flat or apartment.
Due to the constraints in planning most of the builders forget Vastu aspects and concentrate only on the design and comfortable
style while drawing the layout of a Flat. Symmetric construction of flats and the entry points from the lift and staircases make the
difficulty to the extreme to follow Vastu.
Before buying or renting a flat or apartment it must be noted and observed for the main door position as per Vastu. Most people
often have their mindset about the facing of the house. Some say that the best suitable for them is north facing or east facing only.
Very few people prefer renting or buying west or south facing apartment or flats. This aspect is just a myth and there is no truth is
there.
Any flat is good if it is built and utilized as per Vastu principles. For example if a flat is east facing but has a has a master bedroom in
the south east corner and kitchen in the south west corner, then this flat is not at all as per Vastu. People who buy or rent this flat will
suffer with lot of financial strains and often visit hospitals.
For East facing flats:
The main door can be planned in the extreme ends of north side or east side of the flat, so that the north east corner is occupied with
the main door. That means the door will be having good natural lighting and open for the entry of the Vastu energy. Also the north
east corner will become weightless automatically. And the sun light will be flowing freely without any obstruction for the other places
of the flat.
The door can be situated up to the center of the eastern walls of the walls of the flat. A door in the southern side of the eastern wall
and at the extreme end of the south east corner is a bad one as per Vastu Shastra and must be avoided. A main door in the south east
corner will bring bad luck and the people may suffer due to financial strains.
For west facing flat:

For a west facing apartment the door could be positioned in the North West corner of the flat. This will enable the sun light from the
west to flow freely all over the flat. From the center part of the western wall and up to the extreme end of North West corner is also
suitable for the main door. But a main door cannot be placed in the south west corner of the flat. This will cause severe financial
losses and the tenants may not live peacefully. Proper remedial must be taken as per Vastu and these flats are unsuitable for living.
For the south facing flats:

The main door could be in the south east corner of the flat in the south facing flat. From the center part of the southern wall and up
to the extreme end of south east corner is also suitable for the main door. But a main door cannot be placed in the south west corner
of the flat. This will cause severe financial losses and the tenants may not live peacefully. Proper remedial must be taken as per Vastu
and these flats are unsuitable for living.
For north facing Flats:

14. Keep the Pooja room absolutely clean.

and building and proves advantageous.
The weight of water is roughly 1Kilogramme per litter. Supposing a tank is 3meter in length, 1meter in width and 1 meter in height, it
can contain roughly about 3000 liters, which will weigh about 3000 kilogram. And the concrete used for building the tank also weighs
a lot. This weight makes it huge compared to any thing you can keep inside your house.
If the overhead tank is constructed in the north-east of the house, it may lead to mental tension and burden. Our research shows that

The overhead water tank must be at least 60 cm (2 feet) above the uppermost slab and not touching the slab. There should be no

The overhead water tank, as far as possible, should not be made of plastic. If it is a plastic tank, it should be of blue or black color, so
that it absorbs the sun's rays. The sun's rays create positive energy when absorbed in water.
If a solar geyser is to be installed, it can be placed above the level of the overhead tank to ensure proper flow of water, and all the
equipments attached to the same should be installed in the south-east of the roof.

a flat or apartments is the ventilation and drainage connections.

To determine whether your building is on a West facing plot, it is better to refer a good compass and determine the exact
degrees. Or you can judge the rays of Sun and the shadow of nearby buildings in the evening time when the Sun sets in the west.
The Sun light will fall on the front side of your building when you enter it in the evening if it is West facing plot.

Flow of Energy:-
Vastu Shastra prescribes desirable characteristics for sites and buildings based on flow of energy (prana in Sanskrit). Many of the rules
are attributed to cosmological considerations - the sun's path, the rotation of the earth, magnetic field, etc. The morning sun is

Source of Energy:-
Energy is primarily considered as emanating from the northeast corner and many site and building characteristics are derived from
this. Sites sloping down towards north or east from higher levels of south and west are considered good. Open spaces in site and
openings in the building are to be more in the north and east than in the south and the west. No obstacles are to be present in the
north and the east.
Levels and height of buildings are to be higher in the south and west when compared to the north and east. The southwest corner is
to be the highest, followed by southeast, then by northwest and finally by northeast. The triangle formed by joining the southwest,
southeast and the northwest corner of the site is attributed to the moon and the triangle formed by joining the northeast, northwest
and southeast corner of the site is attributed to the sun.
The former are prescribed to be heavier and higher and the latter light and lower. Sites having a longer east-west axis are considered
better. The diagonal connecting southwest and northeast is to be longer than the diagonal connecting southeast and northwest. An
extended northeast corner is considered beneficial.
Vastu Story:-
Most of the instructions in Hinduism are explained by a story. Vastu Shastra is based on an incident that might have occurred very
long ago as per a mythological story. Whether you believe this story or not; this story simply explains you the technology of Vastu
which is based on scientific facts and even a lay man can understand it.
Story of Vastu Purusha in the MATSYA PURANA
Once in Vedic period there lived a demon called Andhakasura, who killed sages and seers. Lord Shiva had to fight with demon to
protect the world and killed him after a long war which had continued for years. While fighting with the demon, the Lord Shiva was
very much tired and began to sweat profusely. When the sweat fell down on the earth, a child was born of the drops of Shiva’s sweat.
Vasthu Purush
The child looked very cruel and horrifying and consumed all the blood from the body of the demon Andhakasura. His hunger was still
not satisfied and felt very hungry. He began to grow steadily, eating all that came near his mouth. He occupied almost all the surface
of the earth, killing all the inhabitants and destroying the nature. All the Five Elements of the galaxy namely Earth, Water, Fire, Air &
Sky suffered by the growth of this child and could not carry on their functions.
This terrified even the Gods in heaven. All of the Gods in heaven grouped together planned to kill the child that was grown up so
largely. They attacked it from all sides, laid it face down and they then sat on different parts of its body and pressed it inside the
earth. Being bound like that, the child lay submerged (buried).
The Boon
In order to mollify the child the Gods bestowed the child with a boon that: “Hence forth you will be known as ‘VASTUPURUSHA’ or
“VASTHUDEVTA “. You will occupy any piece of earth with boundaries made on four sides. The people will offer you prayers and
worship you. You can curse or favor the people who own or occupies any place of earth. If they make you feel happy and comfort as
you lay down on the earth you may favor them with boons. If not you are allowed to curse and make them suffer.”
Then the Vastu Purusha was quite satisfied. Since then the worship of Vastu-Purusha has been in practice and it has become
compulsory to follow certain rules so as to make the Vasthu Purush happy and comfort. The Almighty ordered the Gods of heaven,
who sat at key positions over the child, to safe guard the child and protect him from the people.
Vastu Purusha Mandala
This incident is depicted graphically in the Vastu Purusha Mandala with portions allocated hierarchically to each deity based on their
contributions and positions.
Brahma occupied the central portion - the Brahmasthana- and other gods were distributed around in a concentric pattern. There are
45 gods in all including 32 outer deities. All these divisions are called with reference to the deities like north east corner as "Eshanya
Moolai" in line with the God of direction "Eshanyan" and North West corner as "Vaayu Moolai" to Vaayu Bagawan... Etc.
The Vastu Purusha is the presiding deity of any site. Usually he is depicted as lying on it with the head in the northeast and legs in the
southwest. In accordance with the position occupied by the gods in the Mandala, guidelines are given for zoning of site and
distribution of rooms in a building.

Interpretation of the Story
1. North east is where the head of Vasttu Purush lies in side our plot – Avoid keeping any heavy things here and dig the earth
to make him breath.
2. South west corner is where his legs lie in the ground - you can keep all your heavy and valuable things here so that he can
safely and comfortably hold them for you.
3. South east and north west corners are the position of hands – Keep normal weight in these places.
4. Eshanan is guarding the north east corner and will bring luck if you put your water source at this place.
5. Agni Deva the fire God is guarding the south east corner - make your kitchen here and he will help you eat well.
6. The center of your house is where the heart of Vastu Purush lies – Don’t keep anything here so that his heart pumps blood
easily and he will make your life peaceful.
Vastu Tips For Bed rooms:-
Bed Rooms
1. Beds should be placed so as the head of the person should be in south, east or west direction. Keeping head in the north
direction is not good as your sleep may not be deep.
2. The bedroom should not be constructed above porch, car parks and kitchen. These positions may affect your consciousness
while in sleep.
3. The bed rooms should not be in the central portion of the building or in the basement, as it may lead to mental instability in
person using such bedrooms.
4. If any cabinets of almirahs are constructed or placed in the bedroom, which contain valuable documents, cash, jewelry etc.,
they should be positioned in the south-west corner of the room and as such the doors of the almirahs are opening towards
north or east.
5. An attached bathroom to the bed room can be planned in the north-west or south-east of the room, but never on south-
west or north-east direction.
6. If there is more than one floor, the head of the family (elder person) should have a bedroom on the upper floor and in the
south-west corner. This room should never be used as a bedroom of young children, as it may create unnecessary quarrels
in the house.
7. Beds should be placed so as the head of the person should be in south or east direction.
8. Entrance door to the bedroom must have a window in the center of the wall opposite to it.
9. The loft should be built in any bed room only in the south or west wall. If there are lofts in the north or east directions these
sides may get overloaded with heavy weight and block the flow of good Vastu energies in the bed room.
Vastu Tips for Master Bed room
1. A bed positioned in the northern and eastern zone of the bedroom would cause mental stress and financial instability.
2. The bed shall not be placed in front of the bed room door or opposite any door of the attached toilet or balcony.
3. Though metal beds are in vogue and much in fashion, according to Vasthu Shastra, wooden beds should be used.
4. The door of the attached toilet must be kept closed always and the toilet seat cover should be kept down, when not in use.
5. Never sleep under the beam. It causes unnecessary pressure and also is detrimental in terms of health.

1. As a general rule of Vastu, there must not be any mirror opposite to the bed in a bedroom. A television screen is also
considered as mirror, when turned off, and so even a TV is not allowed to be kept exactly opposite to the bed. But as people
generally insist on keeping a TV in bedroom, it can be kept to the right or left of the bed at angle for a comfortable view
from bed.
2. The children study table can be fixed in the north-east corner of the room. The bookshelf should not be fixed near the
north-eastern corner, but preferably on south and west walls of the children’s room.
3. The bed or cot in the children's room can be in the southwest portion of the bed room with head position in the east or
south direction.
4. The door of the bathroom should not be exactly opposite to the bed. The furniture in the room should be placed a few
inches away from the walls, as it saves the positive energies of body and mind.
5. The study table, if placed in the bedroom, should be placed so as to ensure that the child should face east, north or north-
east while studying. Facing east ensures better concentration while studying.
6. A television should never be placed in the bedroom, but if it is necessary it can be placed in north-west of the room. And a
computer can be placed in south-east corner of the room.
Vastu Tips for Buying Flats as Per Vastu:-

Before buying a flat few points are to be considered as per Vastu Shastra. Once you have purchased a flat only minimal changes are
feasible due to restrictions of the structure. It is important to select the most auspicious flat in the beginning of the construction
rather than picking up one at the last stage of construction. You can note these following tips and work out to select the best fit and
buy.
Shape and size of a flat:
1. It is better to purchase a rectangular or square flat.

2. Flats in the L or C shape are not good as per Vastu.
3. Flats without north east or south west corners, circular, curved and oblique shape should be avoided.
4. Balconies extending at some places need not be considered as extensions.
Position of the windows and doors:
1. The East and North are auspicious directions as per Vastu Shastra. Hence flats having more windows in the East and the
North sides are quite good.
2. Flats with windows in the West can also be purchased.
3. Select a flat that has main door in the east or north or northeast or west of the northwest.
4. Avoid the main door in the south or west of the southwest and east of the southeast.

1. Flats with toilets in the North-East should be avoided as they cause health problems.
2. The toilets can be in the North West and south east corners of a flat.
3. The toilets in the south west corner must be avoided as they cause severe financial strain.
4. Toilets in any bed rooms can be either in the south east or North West corner of the flat.
5. Toilets near the kitchen and Pooja rooms are not good.
6. Toilets without proper ventilation are also a bad Vastu defect.
7. The septic tank of the apartment can be in the north west or south east.
8. If the septic tank in the complex of flats is built in the north east or south west corners of the plot, this bad Vastu defect
affects all the flat owners and weakens their financial growth.
Overhead tank, lifts and sump in a flat:
1. Escalators or the lift cannot be in the southwest corner of a flat or apartment which will cause Vastu problems.
2. Water sumps and swimming pools should not come at southwest corner, south or west directions
3. Lifts and swimming pools in the center place or “Brahmasthanam” of a flat is not a good Vastu effect.
4. If the overhead tank of any apartment or building is on the North east corner, that flat should not be purchased.

Swimming pool and garden in a flat:
1. Gardens in any flat or apartment should always be in the North or east sides of the plot and within the confines of the
compound.
2. The South and West are not to be selected for any kind of garden or plantation.
3. Trees like Asoka, Neem and Coconut planted within the campus in the south and West sides are good for multi-storied
structures.
4. A water pond with lotus in a favorable north or east direction is very good.
5. If a garden is present in the centre of the apartment limit, it must not have any fountain in the centre.
6. A swimming pool in the centre, towards the South, South-East or South-West and even the North-West creates undue
events. It brings negativity in the health of the residents of the flats.
7. A swimming pool is favorable in the East, North or even in the West.
8. The fountains or water ponds within an apartment limit should not be built in the centre and should follow the same
principles as the placement of swimming pools. Placed wrongly they cause problems with respect to mental peace and

9. Fountains or ponds are very favorable towards the North-East. This is also applicable to artificial springs.
10. As per Feng shui, a clump of bamboo signifies good health & longevity for the occupants of the house & is a good condition

3. The bed rooms in the north-east corner are unsuitable for any newlywed couples. The couples who sleep here often are
childless as per our research.
4. Couples aspiring for children should never sleep in a northeast room. The strong magnetic energies act as a barrier. Also,
make sure that the room does not have any sharp colors or objects.
5. The placement of water tank also acts as a hindrance in conception. A water tank placed in the north east direction is
absolutely avoided.
6. Money should be kept in a locker in the south-west corner of the bed room. This way you would be able to attain financial
stability.
7. Make sure that the underground water tank is not in the south-west direction.

Vastu Bed Position

1. The bed should position in the south-west corner of the bed room for better results of romance and love.
2. A bed positioned in the northern and eastern zone of the bedroom would cause mental stress and financial instability.
3. The bed shall not be placed in front of the bed room door or opposite any door of the attached toilet or balcony.
4. Though metal beds are in vogue and much in fashion, according to Vasthu Shastra, wooden beds should be used.
5. While sleeping, make sure that your head points towards the south side and legs towards north side, for a blissful personal
life.
6. The door of the attached toilet must be kept closed always and the toilet seat cover should be kept down, when not in use.
7. Never sleep under the beam. It causes unnecessary pressure and also is detrimental in terms of health.
8. Don’t sleep in direct alignment with sharp corners. This can create stress in your nervous system. In a room that has sharp
corners, you will never be able to experience peace, unless you soften them by placing plants in front. Also, move your bed
away from direct alignment with them.
9. Beds should be placed so as the head of the person should be in south or east direction.
Vastu Interior of Bed Room and Love
1. The bedroom door should open at least ninety degrees, to fully allow positive opportunities to flow to you. This is because
the door of your bedroom is symbolic of the opportunities life presents you. A door that cannot open fully will limit the
support and prospects life has to offer you.
2. There should not be any single identity in the couple room, such as duck and butterfly. Avoid any thing that causes stress in
the bedroom.
3. If you want to have a bookshelf in your bedroom, west or southwest corner is the best place, as per the Vastu guidelines for
a bedroom.
4. The first thing that you see when you enter your bedroom should give you the feeling of peacefulness and serenity. Such
feelings can be enhanced by a photograph, inspiring quote, painting, sculpture or even flowers. Locate these things at such
a place that the moment you enter your bedroom, your gaze falls on them.

6. Light green, light rose or blue color is to be preferred for Painting the walls of the bed room to give the bedroom a soothing
effect.

8. Clutter or unwanted and unused items in the bed room and cupboards are to be avoided for a good night sleep. For a good
and healthy relationship, special attention should be paid to remove the clutter, as they restrict the flow of love.
9. Mirrors are a strictly should be kept in the bedroom, visible to beds or reflecting the bed from any side. The mirrors can be
placed in the south and west walls without facing the beds.
10. Computer and TV are not advisable to be in the room. However, if you have TV and computer in bedroom, cover them with
a cloth while sleeping in the night.
11. Paintings that symbolize death, quarrels, violence or any negative aspect of life are not permissible in the bed room as well
in any place of the house.
Kitchen Vastu and Love
1. The best place for the kitchen is south-east corner or north-west corner of the house.
2. The kitchen in the north-east causes enmity between the family members especially between husband and wife.
3. The kitchen in the south-west corner creates lot of unwanted expenses and weakens the health of the ladies.
4. The sink and the stove are to be kept a distance from each other.
5. While the gas stove represents Agni (fire), the sink stands for water.
6. If Agni element and water element are wrongly placed, relations in a family are affected.
7. Sharp objects such as knife and scissors should be covered.
8. The same is applicable to pickles as well.
9. Openly placed knife and scissors or pickles creates sourness in relations.
10. Cooking Gas or any other stove should be in the south-east part of the kitchen.
11. Sink in the kitchen should be installed in the north east corner of the kitchen.
12. Big windows and ventilators should be in the east direction, while smaller windows should be in south.

14. A dishwasher can be placed in the north west of the kitchen.
15. If any storage cabinets are made in the north east, use these cabinets for light weight storage only.

if the cash box can be preferred in the rear side.

East Facing shops:

For east facing shops the North east corner in the front side is good. Alternatively south west corner can be selected as first choice, if
the cash box can be preferred in the rear side.

For west facing shops the North West corner in the front side is good. Alternatively south west corner can be selected as first choice.

1. The owner of the shop or the salesman should sit in such a way that they face east or north direction as facing to south or

2. The cash counter should be placed in such a way that if it is near the south wall, it should open towards the north or if it is in
the west wall it should open towards the east.
3. The main power meter, switch board etc., should be at southeast corner.
4. There should be no cross beams in the shops.

below the earth in the south-west corner of the house, shop and office.

the east or the north.
4. Locating the safety locker at the south wall facing the north also brings good fortune. The door of the locker should
preferably open to the north, which is the direction of Kubera (God of Wealth) as per Vastu.
5. Do not place the locker in north-east corner as it would cause loss of wealth. South-east and north-west corner are also not
preferred either as it can lead to unnecessary expenditure.
6. Make sure that the safety locker is not placed under the beam as it causes extreme pressure on financial stability.
“Eeshanya Moolai” - “THE CORNER OF GOD”
 The north-east corner is other source causing prosperity and wealth to flourish. This corner is called in Tamil as “Eeshanya
Moolai” meaning THE CORNER OF GOD.
1. The development and stability of a place is guaranteed if well, bore well, sump for storing water is constructed in the north-
east corner of the house and plot.
2. The overhead tank, when constructed in the north-east portion of the house causes severe down pour of ill luck and
worsens the financial position.
3. If the plot is very close to Shiva, Vishnu or Shakti or any temple and its shadow falls on the plot or house in the north or east
direction, it reduces the vibration.
4. There should not be a temple, mosque, church, high raise buildings or mountains on the North-east side or straight ahead of
the gate which may cause financial loss.
5. Financial loss is sure to come if there is considerably less open space in the north-east side of the building or heavy
machinery etc. have been installed in the north-east portion of the plot.
6. The elder or earning member or head of the family is must never occupy the north-east portion of the house.
7. The north or east side compound wall of the building should never be constructed as curved.
8. The slope of the floor of the building is favorable towards the north-east corner compared to the south-west corner.
The Vastu factors of your Plot
1. The plot you have purchased or living now could have changed due to some external factors or changes in due course of
developmental activities.
2. The road in the front of the building shall not be higher than the floor inside the building.
 The plot should not be facing any road considered to effect ill luck. Some roads cause bad sign of financial loss, only some
roads favor good luck.
 Bad luck comes with misfortune, if there is a damaged building exactly opposite to the gate or main door of the house.
 Tall and huge trees planted in the north-east side of the house blocking morning sunlight, imbalance financial stability.

The east portion of the house shall not be higher than the west portion of the house, considering both floor level and building level.

1. The building or the house shall not be constructed mainly or only in the east and north side.
2. The well, bore well and sump in the southeast, south, west, or south-west of the house or building creates a bad vibration

3. Store room in the house or office building is in the north-east of the plot.
4. Keep the doors and windows clean and sparkling, as dirty glass restricts the flow of money.
5. Drainage pipes should be fitted in the east or the north area of factories, offices or residences.
6. Overhead tank in the south-east corner is a bad omen and results in loss of wealth and accidents.
7. A Water Fountain at the north-east corner of the house or hall with gentle sound of the water flowing provides positive
