Introduction

A robot is any machine capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically, especially one
that is programmable by a computer. The first robot was a mechanical bird made in 350 B.C. by Archytas
of Tarentum. It was called "The Pigeon" and was powered by steam. Archytas was an ancient Greek
mathematician. His creation, a wooden dove that could fly up to 200 meters connected to a cable, was
not only the first robot but also one of the earliest flight studies. () With the arrival of programmable
computers in the 1940s, the first real robots began to take shape. The earliest robots as we know them
today were created by George Devol in the 1950s. He invented and patented a reprogrammable
manipulator (basically a robot) called Unimate. Unfortunately, he couldn’t sell it! In the 1960s, Joseph
Engleberger bought the Unimate patent and modified it into an industrial robot, selling it under the
label ‘Unimation’. It was a programmable robotic arm that was installed seven years later, on the
assembly line of New Jersey General Motors. This arm performed dangerous and repetitive tasks on the
assembly line. For his efforts and success, Engleberger is known in the industry as “the Father of
Robotics”. () The purpose of creating these robots have evolved to become more likely than humans,
capable of doing the tasks that are too dangerous or boring for people. Robots save time by being able
to produce a greater magnitude of products. They also reduce the amount of wasted material used due
to their accuracy. Robots save companies money in the long run with quick ROIs (return on investment),
fewer worker injuries (reducing or eliminating worker’s comp), and with using less materials. The list of
the advantages of robots does not end there; they have also created jobs for workers. Many people
believe the misconception that robots have taken away jobs from workers, but that is not necessarily
true. Robots have created new jobs for those who were once on production lines with programming.
They have pulled employees from repetitive, monotonous jobs and put them in better, more challenging
ones. They also allow US companies to remain competitive, keeping jobs local. Robots are user-friendly,
intelligent, and affordable. The benefits of robots continue to grow as more industries incorporate
them. ( ) A robot might be designed to perform one particular task extremely well, or a range of tasks
less well. Each robot has a different function like doing hazardous jobs, such as maintenance jobs,
fighting fires and even do a surgery. Thieves cannot be prevented anywhere in the world especially in
museums. Museums are the most appropriate venues for anyone who wants to have ocular views of
interesting and valuable paintings, sculptures, or anything of scientific and historical value. Part of local
governments’ tourism plan is the construction of museum in their respective places as it is trending
nowadays for people to look back and to recall traditions of ancient times. However, many museums are
suffering unexpected losses due to theft. Theft of any exhibits in this gallery is indeed a condemnable
act since loss of even a simple object can never be replaced. With this problem, our group decided to
design a system which may eliminate, if not, minimize this problem in museums. This is a system which
alerts museum operators that there is theft in the area and that thieves will also be arrested
immediately. The thesis title “Museum Automatic Alarm and Lock System” indicates that whenever
someone attempts to steal any property in the museum, then he will be automatically arrested by
human detecting sensors and the item will automatically be locked, thus, theft will be controlled
