Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
A.1 Opening Prayer
Everybody stand up. _______ please lead the
prayer.
Lord Jesus, we ask that you guide us in all our
works, so that we may do our best. Open our
minds, clear our thoughts and grant us perfect
concentration. So we may use the knowledge
we have gained. To build up your kingdom for
the good of all people. Amen.
A.2 Greetings
Good Morning class.
Good Morning Miss Macalinao. Good
Morning classmates. It’s nice to see you. God
is good.
A.3 Classroom Conditioning
Before you take your seats, kindly arrange your
chairs properly. Okay, you may sit down. Thank you Ma’am!

A.4 Checking of Attendance

Is there any absent? None.

A.5 Checking of Assignment

Do we have any assignment? Yes, Ma’am.

Bring out your assignment notebook and

exchange it to your seatmate.
In your assignment, you will draw a triangle if
the object mentioned represents a triangle and a
quadrilateral if it is not.
(Pupils will raise their hand.)
Who wants to read and answer number 1? John is reading a book. Quadrilateral.
Correct!
Number 2? Lucas is opening the door. Quadrilateral.
Correct!
Number 3? Gani is standing near the traffic sign that says
“Children’s Crossing.” Triangle
Correct!
Number 4? Rafael is writing on the board. Quadrilateral.
Correct!
Last number. Number 5? He is using a tripod in doing his experiment.
Triangle.
Correct!
Count the number of correct and give the
notebook to the owner.
Who got 5? 4? 3? 2? 1?
Okay. Very good!

B. Review
When we say polygon, it is a closed figure made
up of several line segments that is joined
together. Examples are triangle and
(Pupils will raise their hands.)
quadrilaterals.
A triangle is a polygon with 3 sides and 3
What is a triangle?
angles.

Yes, that’s correct! How about quadrilaterals?

Quadrilateral has 4 sides and 4 angles.
That is also correct! All of you already know the
difference between a triangle and quadrilateral;
therefore, we can now proceed to our new
lesson.

C. Motivation
“Triangle Hunt”
I have a friend named Mrs. Trina. She is looking
for Christmas decorations. The decorations she
is looking for has the same shape as hers.
What is her shape?
Triangle.
What does a triangle look like?
It has 3 sides and 3 angles.
Will help her to find one?
Yes.
(The pupils will participate in the activity.)
What can you say about the sizes/measurements
of the triangles you have found? They are different in size and measurement.

Then, it only means that there are different

kinds of triangles.

D. Lesson Proper
Let’s now tackle our new topic which is about
Identifying and Describing Triangles or the
Kinds of Triangles.
Oh! Before I forget, we have here a companion
in our lesson for today. Here is Dora. But Dora
has a situation here, her friend Boots is not
around, you know Boots right? He is Dora’s
partner in exploring. That is why, we will help
her to complete her every mission.
Are you okay with that? Yes, Ma’am.
(Video Presentation)
Dora will first show us what her mission is.
Please watch and listen orderly.
We need to finish the task in every destination
for us to complete the mission.
Dora has two things on her backpack, what are Ruler and protractor
those again?
Yes, that’s right! Later, we will find out the use
of these things.
Yes, Ma’am!
Now, are you ready to explore?

According to the map, our first destination is to

go to the town of triangles according to angles.
Our task is to help the family to find their kids.
Helping someone who is in need is one of the
good characteristic we must have. Here are the
parent triangles who ask for some help in
finding their kids. They have measurement.

Now, what can you observe in the parent

triangles? Yes.
That’s right! We can use the measurements as a
clue to find their kids. Am I right?
Ma’am, we can use a protractor.
How are we going to identify whose their
family? By the use of what? Because we are going to measure an angle.
Why protractor?
Yes, that’s right! Protractor is used to measure
an angle.
I know all of you knew how to measure an angle
because I believe I already taught you how from
our previous lesson. Am I right?
Yes, Ma’am.
What can you observe from the first parent
(Pupils will raise their hand.)
triangle?
Ma’am, the angles are ___, ___, and ___.

That’s right! Any other observation?

Ma’am, the angles are all less than 90°.
That’s correct! An angle that is less than 90° is
called what? Acute angle
Yes, that’s right! A triangle that has 3 acute
angles is what we call an acute triangle.
Therefore, the first parent triangle is an acute
triangle. We will name it acute parent triangle.
Do you get it? Yes, Ma’am.
(Pupils will raise their hand.)
What about the second parent triangle? The angles are ___, ___, and ___.
Correct! Another? Ma’am, there is a right angle.
Very good! A right angle measures exactly 90°.
Always remember that if a triangle has an angle
that measures 90° or a right angle, we call that a
right triangle. Therefore, its name is right parent
triangle.
Yes.
Understand?
(Pupils will raise their hand.)
How about the third one? Any observation?
The angles measure ___, ___ and ___.
Ma’am, one of the angles is more than 90°.
That’s right! Any other observation?
Yes, that’s right! What do we call an angle that
measures more than 90°? Obtuse angle
Very good! Like the right triangle, if one of the
angle measures more than 90° or an obtuse
angle, we call that an obtuse triangle. So, the
name of the third triangle is obtuse parent
triangle.
Do you understand? Yes.

Now that we are familiar with the parent

triangles, let us help them in finding their kids.
As you can see, these kid triangles here have no
measurement or any clue.
Who wants to help in measuring the angles of (Pupils will raise their hand.)
the kid triangles?
Pick any of the triangles that you want to
measure. (The pupil will pick one.)

You can now measure the angles and write their

measurement.
(The pupil will measure the angle.)
Very good! So this triangle has angles that
measures ___, ___, and __.
Thank you. You can go back to your seat.
(Pupils will raise their hand.)
Where do you think this triangle belongs?
Please come here in front. (A pupil will put the triangle where it belongs.)
Is that correct?
Yes, that’s correct! You put the acute kid Yes.
triangle together with its acute parent because
both triangles have angles that are less than 90°.
Since they are together, they are happy now!
Who wants to measure another one? (Pupils will raise their hand.)

You can now measure the angles and write their (The pupil will measure the angle.)
measurement.
Very good! So this triangle has angles that
measures ___, ___, and __.
Thank you. You can go back to your seat.
Where do you think this triangle belongs? (Pupils will raise their hand.)
Ma’am that is a right triangle.

Yes, that’s right! Please come here in front and

put this right kid triangle to its parent. Because
they are together, they are what?
Happy now!

Who wants to measure the last triangle?

(Pupils will raise their hand.)

You can now measure the angles and write their

measurement. (The pupil will measure the angle.)
Very good! So this triangle has angles that
measures ___, ___, and __. We only have
missing one so that means that this triangle
belongs to the obtuse parent triangle. ___ is an
obtuse angle so that makes it to become an
obtuse triangle.
Again, what are the triangles according to (Pupils will raise their hand.)
angles?
Acute, right and obtuse triangle.

That’s correct! The triangles that are according

to its angle are acute, right and obtuse wherein
acute triangle has 3 acute angles that measures
less than 90°. A right triangle has a right angle
that measures exactly 90° and an obtuse triangle
that has an obtuse angle that measures more
than 90°. Do you understand? Yes, Ma’am.
We already finished the task on our first
destination, all of the parent triangles are with
their kids. Thanks to all of you. Let’s proceed to
the next.
According to the map, our second destination is
to go to the town of triangles according to its
side.
Our task here is to arrange the pieces of the
puzzle to be able to create the right form of the
triangle. After you fix the puzzle, put it in its
proper place because as you can see, the
triangles in this town are missing.
I will group you into three, the table 1 will be
the group 1, table 3 will be the group 2 and table
4 will be the group 3. And as for the table 2, you
will be divided into three so that you can group
Yes, Ma’am.
to them. Now go on your respective groups.
I will give you 5 minutes to finish that. Okay.
Timer starts now.
Group 1 – Scalene Triangle (The pupils will begin in arranging the puzzle
pieces.)
Group 2 – Isosceles Triangle
Group 3 – Equilateral Triangle
(The groups will put their work on its place.)
Times up! Put the triangles now on its original
place.

On the first destination, we used a protractor to

measure the angles of the triangles; therefore,
there is only one thing that is left on Dora’s (Pupils will raise their hand.)
backpack. What is it?
Ruler.

That’s right! In measuring the sides of a

triangle, we will use a ruler. Is that clear?
Yes.

Who made the first triangle?

Table 1.

Okay. What do you notice on the triangle that

you arrange? The sides of the triangle in (Pupils will raise their hand.)
particular?
Ma’am, the sides are equal.
That’s correct! How many equal sides can you
see? Three.
Who can measure its side to determine the (The pupil will go in front and measure the
number of equal sides? Please come here in sides of the triangle.)
front.
Are you done?
Yes.

How many sides are equal?

Three.
Very good. Please go back to your seat.
The first triangle is what we call the equilateral
triangle. An equilateral triangle has 3 equal
sides.
Do you understand?
Yes, Ma’am.
How about the next triangle? Who made this Table 3.
one?
(Pupils will raise their hand.)
Any observation?
The triangle has 2 equal sides.

Are you sure?

Yes, Ma’am.

That’s correct! Clearly, we can see that it has 2

equal sides and we call that an isosceles
triangle. Do you get it?
Yes.
(Pupils will raise their hand.)
What about the last one? What do you notice?
It has no equal sides.
Prove your answer. Please come here in front
(The pupil will go in front.)
and measure each side.
What is the measurement of each side?
It is ___, ____, and ___ inches.
Very good! By their measurement, we can say
that this triangle has no equal sides and we call
that scalene triangle.
Is that clear?
Yes, Ma’am.
(Pupils will raise their hand.)
Again, what are the triangles according to its
side? Equilateral, isosceles and scalene.

That’s correct! The types of triangle according

to its side are equilateral, isosceles and scalene
wherein equilateral triangle has 3 equal sides,
isosceles triangle has 2 equal sides and scalene
triangle has no equal sides.
Do you understand?
Yes, Ma’am.
Were done with the mission. Give yourself
“Dora the Explorer” clap. (The pupils will do the clap.)
E. Generalization
How are triangles classified? Triangles are classified according to its angle
and side.
Very good! What are the triangles according to
its angle? Acute, right and obtuse triangle
That’s right! How acute, right and obtuse Acute triangle has three acute angles.
triangles differ from each other?
Right triangle has a right angle that measures
90°.
Obtuse triangle has an obtuse angle that
measures more than 90°.
Very good! What about the triangles according
to its side? The triangles according to sides are equilateral,
isosceles and scalene.
Yes, that’s right! What is the difference between Equilateral triangle has 3 equal sides.
the three?
Isosceles triangle has 2 equal sides.
Scalene triangle has no equal sides.
Very good! It seems that you really understand
our lesson. Let’s now have an activity.

F. Application
“ Connecting Heroes”
What you are going to do is to connect the
characters or the heroes into each other by
drawing lines to be able to form triangles. And
after that, you have to name the triangle that is
formed.
Are you ready?
Yes.
(The pupils that will volunteer to answer will go
in front.)
