End connections are free. Procedure: Sand bags were fitted at both ends of the test piece but, not touching the tested piece. High pressure pump was fitted to steel end cap along with a calibrated pressure gauge accurate to +/- 50 psi. The pump was started and the pressure increased at a rate of about 500 psi every 30 seconds wih a 15 second pause to check for leaks. Test was terminated when the body of the pipe ruptured, a joint fallure ocourred, or pressure was not sustained due to body weepage.
