LESSON in TOURISM

Tourism lesson is one of learning in English Literature. In this lesson, people learnt and
practice a lot of material of tourism. Tourism class was taught by Ms. Dini Wulansari M.A. she
gave many experience and knowledge about tourism, like how to promoting tourism in local
especially, how to be tour guide who manage a lot of people, etc.

Tourism is trip. In the other hand, it moves from place to another for pleasure. When we
went to destination, sometimes we need a tour guide. They are people who carry out the guest on
destination also provide explanation about the something new. They also give instruction and
always help everything needed by tourists.

Tour guiding have classifications that make different of tour guide job. First, based on
scope of geography, usually it is big tour guide job like diving community, mountain, etc. It is
including transfer guide, local guide, regional guide, national guide, and special-interest guide.
Second, based on employment, it is usually working on company. It calls freelance guide,
company guide. Last, based on type of guest, usually it is for independent travelers (small, group,
families), international tourists.

As a tour guide who has given instructions of many people, it also must have requires, so
they can give charge exactly. They must understand essential of skill, knowledge and attitude of
a tour guiding. In skill, as a tour guide must have good speaking skill, because they must be able
to communicate and give information for guest like give story-telling and also humor. If problem
occurs during a trip, a tour guide should be able to resolve it. The tour guide must have good
organizational and leadership who organize a group of people on trip. Last, particularly for
guiding international guest from abroad must hold the power of foreign language. In knowledge,
a tour guide is expected to provide guests with information regarding the places of interest they
are visiting. A tour guide should take a role as cultural broker which know about places. A tour
guide must keep on updating the knowledge. Improving attitude that must be able to tend to the
needs of tourists, showing high level of initiate, give kindness and polite, concerns to others.
Tour guide must serve the tourists with an excellent manner.
 In this term, tour guiding also has acted. Students acted as a tour guide. It is divided into
several groups. Students practiced in Fisip yard because at that time is fasting. As a tour guide is
not easier for us. Fortunately, student was studied about essential which should have as a tour
guide including skill, knowledge and attitude. The experienced as a tour guide is the student can
know how to explain about destination and know how to face answer of question the guests
during a trip. Our groups take some destination, one of them is park zoo which combine with
eco-tourism. Why did we take eco-tourism?. Because eco tourism is one of destination that
change of marketing demand, a lot of people start growing of a green lifestyle and also almost
83% of international tourists want their holiday is not damaging the environment. So, ecotourism
matched being the destination for visiting. The second one is Ocean Blue Aquarium. We choose
it because we also want to give education tourism for people. In ocean Blue served a lot of
various fish which seldom people know. Last, we showed culture tourism. It demonstrated a lot
of local culture that we have, from traditional dance until local food. Is it interesting? Although it
is only imagination, but we hope it will be real in Bangka Belitung especially. That is the first
time student experienced as a tour guide, despite of it is only practice but the student enjoyed it.

In 20th May, the student have had travel to Tempilang, West Bangka. In Tempilang have
the spot of local custom called Perang Ketupat. It is only one of local traditions in Bangka
Belitung. This event always celebrate in every year. What do they?. The local people of
Tempilang do the ritual. The event continued on Pasir Kuning Beach to witness Perang Ketupat.
There are any some traditional events including Perang Keupat, Sedekah Ruah, Selawang
Seatason, Campak, Dambus, Ngancak, Traditional dance, and Taber Sekampong.
 Perang Ketupat and Sedekah Ruah is a traditional celebration carried out by the
community of Tempilang subdistrict as a sign of gratitude to the God, and also a form of love
and concern for the community to continue to preserve tradition. Where the cultural activities of
the Perang Ketupat dan Sedekah Ruah at Tempilang in 2019 are themed “Perang Ketupat
Tempilang, Tradition Of West Bangka Malay Culture to Strengthen the Rope of Brotherhood
and National Unity.”

The annual routine event of the Perang Ketupat dan Sedekah Ruah is a form of cultural
customary preservation that has been established as a tourism promotion event at Tempilang. So
that it can support the tourism of West Bangka in particular and Bangka Belitung in general.
From that we learn some aspects in tourism that was how to be tour guide which story telling
during trip. We visited several spots the local culture that is especially not yet know by tourists,
so as a tour guide we can explain as a home broker, it is all at once promoting our tourism to
outside that we have as iconic tourism which different from the other.
