The Role and Applications of Data Science in Different Industries

1. Business process outsourcing (BPO)

a. Speech Analytics – used to analyze conversations to gather information about
customers and issues discussed. It uses speech and recognition features.
b. Text Analytics - used to analyze written language (i.e. emails, documents, etc.). Applies
data mining to identify patterns in texts.
c. Desktop Analytics – unlike the first two which is customer-oriented, desktop analytics is
agent-focused. It is used to monitor, capture and analyze desktop-based activities and
workflows. It can be applied to measure an agent’s compliance to protocols,
performance and other issues.
d. Cross-channel Analytics – consolidate data sets from different channels. It can be
applied to customer relationship management wherein all the first three analytics are
combined. It can be used to identify and evaluate customer support platforms and their
interactions with the brand.
e. Self-service analytics – it provides customers the option to solve their own issues. It
analyzes the customer experience and determines glitches and other problems.
f. Predictive analytics – includes data mining, machine learning, and artificial intelligence
to predict future events, such as customers’ purchasing behavior. It can also be applied
to customer support provider to identify the most effective approach for customer
interaction.
