About the Centre

The Centre for Mental Health Law & Policy at the Indian Law Society, Pune is a research and
policy organisation which focusses on mental health through rights-based and psychosocial
approaches. One of the very few organisations of its kind in India, the Centre designs and
implements innovative mental health interventions through implementation research, capacity
building and policy-making for promoting the rights of persons with psychosocial disabilities.
The Centre works with a range of public health and mental health organisations based in and

Vacancies for Research Associate (Law & Policy)

The Centre has two vacancies for full time positions of Research Associate (Law & Policy)
for a project on “Capacity Building for Implementation of the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017”
in the States of Gujarat & Chhattisgarh. The positions are open to Law Graduates who have
completed their B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) degree OR Masters in Social Work/Public Health/Social
Sciences with experience of working on rights-based laws.

Research Associates will be responsible for conceptualising, coordinating and implementing


capacity building activities for stakeholders including mental health authorities, district judges,
law enforcement personnel, mental health professionals, service users and caregivers.
Additionally, they will also recruit, train and monitor peer support workers as paralegals for
providing legal aid in mental health hospitals and provide ongoing technical support to assist
mental health authorities in discharging their functions under the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017.

Salaries will be competitive and commensurate with skills and experience. Research Associates
will be required to travel to different locations regularly for conducting training workshops
and monitoring activities. They will report to the Project Manager and Director of the Centre.
