1. (a) Broadly classify the integrated circuits for a wide range of applications.
(b) What is a practical op-amp? Draw its equivalent circuit.
(c) In an op-amp, V2 = 0 (inverting terminal input). What is the voltage at
V1 (non-inverting terminal input) for an output of 5V if AOL = 50000.

2. (a) What are the limitations of a simple log amplifier?


(b) Draw the circuit of a log amplifier with an arrangement to compensate for
temperature effects and derive the expression for the output voltage. [6+10]

3. (a) Design a non-inverting comparator with output levels stabilizes at ±5V and
VT L = 0 and VT H = 2.5V (TL: Lower threshold, TH: upper threshold) as shown
in the figure3b
(b) For the given inverting Schmitt trigger, calculate its higher and lower trigger
levels. [8+8]

4. (a) What is an all pass filter? Where and why is it needed?
(b) Design and obtain the frequency response of a band pass filter with
fL = 400Hz, fH = 1KHz and the pass band gain =1. [8+8]

5. (a) Define the conditions on the feedback circuit of an amplifier to convert it in


to an oscillator.
(b) Design an RC phase shift oscillator for 300HZ frequency using IC µA 741 and
±15 Volt power supplies. Assume necessary component values.
(c) Suggest a method to reduce the output voltage swing to ±6.5 Volts. [6+6+4]

6. (a) Draw the functional schematic of 555 timer and describe in detail how this IC
can be used to realize a monostable multivibrator.
(b) Draw the pin diagram of 555 timer IC. [12+4]

7. (a) Explain the procedure to implement FM demodulation and frequency trans-
lation using a Phase Locked Loop IC.
(b) What are the essential external components to be used with NE565 PLL IC

1. (a) An op-amp has a slew rate of 2V/µs. What is the maximum frequency of an
output sinusoid of peak value 5V at which the distortion sets in due to the
slew rate limitation.

2. (a) Draw the circuit of a typical instrumentation amplifier. Why do we use two
stage op-amp circuit as an instrumentation amplifier. Explain

3. (a) Design a practical integrator circuit to process the sinusoidal input waveform
up to 1 KHz and the input amplitude is10mv. Assume are necessary standard
values of resistance.

(b) Draw the first order low-pass Butter worth filter and analyze the same by

1. (a) For the circuit shown below figure1a calculate I1 , IL and V0 with R1 = 10KΩ,
Rf = 100KΩ, Vi = 1V, RL = 25KΩ. [8+8]

amplifier.

2. In some measurements it is necessary to sense current from a transducer and convert


it into voltage. For a three op-amp realization of a current input instrumentation
amplifier, derive the expression for Vo. [16]

3. (a) Discuss the operation of a basic comparator circuit and draw its input-output
waveforms when used as a non-inverting comparator.
(b) Define lower threshold voltage, upper threshold voltage and hysterisis in a

i. What is its percentage resolution?
ii. What is its full-scale range?
iii. What is the output voltage for an input, 10110 01101? [8+8]

8. (a) Explain the operation of a dual slope type Analog to Digital converter.
(b) A dual slope Analog to Digital converter uses a 16-bit counter and operates at
4MHz clock rate. The maximum input voltage is +8volts. Find the value of
integrator resistor resistor ‘R’ if the maximum output voltage of the integrator
is-6 volts after 2n counts for an integrator capacitor of 0.1µF. [8+8]

1. (a) List and explain the characteristics of an ideal op-amp.


(b) Calculate the exact closed loop gain of the inverting amplifier of the figure1b
shown, if AOL = 2,00,000, Ri = 2MΩ and Ro = 75Ω.

current passing into the feedback resistor of the op-amp. [8+8]

8. (a) Explain the operation of a dual slope type of Analog to Digital converter.
(b) Calculate the maximum conversion time, conversion rate and resolution of an
8-bit counter type Analog to Digital converter operating at 4MHz clock for a
maximum input range of 12 volts. [10+6]
