1. Difficult Concepts

a. Science and technology ease our lives, but somehow other people are afraid because
it is deeply embedded in our culture that science is dangerous.

b. Science is neutral. The morality and ethicality of science depends on how you apply
it. But the real obligation of scientist is to get breakthroughs to improve both science
and technology. Eugenics was the case of immoral science.

c. We must lean on the government for freedom of science and for public
understanding. The importance of science is huge, but we still don’t know how to use
this efficiently.

2. Learning insights

a. Before reading the article, I thought that

People always trust scientist and their studies because science improves our lives and
it is form of breakthroughs maybe related in health issues or new discovery of life
forms or even in technology.

However, after reading the article, I thought that

Dangers and fear of science are embedded in culture and in the minds of people. They
do not completely trust science because science is neutral it can be used either bad or
good.

b. Before reading the article, I thought that

Science and technology are one because in technology science is use in order to
improve or create technology.

However, after reading the article, I thought that

The difference of science and technology is that science is knowledge and
understanding while technology is the application of that knowledge to make
something out of nothing.

c. Before reading the article, I thought that

Science is for the greater good of the world but somehow it is used immorally. Other
scientist use science to rewrite genes, cloning and others.

However, after reading the article, I thought that

Other scientists do immoral science in order to improve humans. They can rewrite
your genes for your offspring or you to have better traits and the desirable traits you
can have it and dispose of the undesirable traits. After reading the article my
perceptions in this changed.

it benefits the whole world?

b. Why is that technology is the only one that generates ethical issues and not science?

c. Why is it that politics has something to do with science and how it operates?
