CHAPTER ONE

Introduction

The Problem and Its Background

“You may delay but time will not” as quoted by Benjamin Franklin. First and foremost,

time is an indefinite process in life and it holds a role in every student to meet and improve their

task yet most students take advantage of time despite having a scheduled period of time. The way

to handle our time is by management, handling task with an effective and efficient planning, and

using of resources and building skills. Dominance on time is the only secret of human to obtain

success; if not, you are likely to undergo stress and procrastination.

Practicing time management while studying is a good example, as it helps students

prioritize the tasks they have on hand and finishing it without losing time to one's other priorities.

Having time management also helps the learner to be confident, organized and will help the child

learn more effectively. In today’s society where people are often under pressure, planning what to

do with your time is not only useful but has also been necessary and inevitable. Managing your

time requires having a schedule of activities and adjusting your thoughts, feelings and behaviors

to reflect what is important to you. This mechanism can be done by self-motivation, dealing with

stress properly, and overcoming procrastination. The infamous word “Procrastination” is the word

every student knows and does yet it gives them a hard time to finish their tasks and meet their

goals. Sometimes students get too lazy or distracted with other tasks to which often lead to

unprepared activities, unfinished works or failed to pass on the given deadline. Self-discipline is
valuable and once a person obtained good time management skills he will no longer be vulnerable

to procrastination. With poor time management one is giving way for stress, negativity and

cramming to come in.

Time management might as well be the key to success as it allows you to take charge of

your life rather than letting procrastination control you. Free time is as important as having good

time management skills, to avoid information overloads, pressure and possible future mental

blocks and breakdowns. Time management can reduce cramming and frustration to all person

alike. Having the thought of being finished with works gives you the feeling of empowerment.

Instead of running around in a state of frenzy you can enjoy life’s simple pleasures. It helps to

balance our student life with personal interests. We have the power to use our time as we want it

to be used. It may be difficult to some but it may lift your burden away at times that in need. Time

can’t be bought or stored itself so then you must know the quality and importance of it. Time

Management is a relationship with yourself and time and it aims to harmonize to the situation you

will be dealing with. (markforster.squarespace)

The researchers chose this study for it is common among high school students to have lots

of tasks on hand. The researchers do realize that most of the students in Montessori De Sto. Nino

of Meycauayan applied the word “Procrastination” to their daily lives; having the difficulty to

handle activities affecting their performance and knowledge that should be done properly. It

damages the skills that most of the students should develop and choosing how we use our time

efficiently. As students, most have other things to do other than school works and this study is

conducted in order to assess those situations. There are some students which help their family at

home but can’t due to the amount of school works given to them. The researchers also chose this
study in order to speak their minds and opinions regarding the title and how to address the situation

regarding time management.

This study is also conducted to give some tips on how the high school students’ can manage

their time. It is beneficial for the students to have their own way in having time management and

this study will give some help for them to use it wisely. This study will also benefit the researchers

as they also experience procrastination in school and at home; the researchers would like to find a

way to help themselves and those students.
