SONA 2K19:REACTION PAPER

“Change is coming” it is the phrase that you will remember when you heard Duterte regime.
He said that phrase when he is campaigning. He wants changes in the Philippines during his
regime. He wants to start changes in implementing on what they called “Kontra Droga”. He
implements this project to eliminate drug dealer, drug user, drug lord or anything that involved
drugs. He doesn’t care if it is government officials or not, all people in the Philippines are involved.
In the government officials he started to investigate who are involved in the drugs and fired them.
This project “kontra droga” becomes the hot topic not only in the Philippines but also in foreign
news and magazines. There are many criticisms in this project because they said that this project
cause many lives to be waste. They said that there is extra judicial killing in doing the operation
“tokhang”. You can say that there are changes in Duterte regime but only few changes that are not
enough to uplift the Philippines from being poor. He is just focus on eliminating drugs and
corruption but the economic status of the Philippines is still in the bottom. In 3 years of his term,
we can see changes in the few aspects. In his State of the Nation Address, he will revealed what
he have done in the Philippines and what he want to do in his remaining years being the president.
The content of his SONA are the laws that he wants to passed and what Filipinos can expect
in his remaining last half of his term. He started his SONA by highlighting his popularity. He said
that only 3% of Filipinos disapprove of him. His first topic is the persistent problem of illegal
drugs. He claims that 2017 marawi siege began with a government raid on shabu being kept by
extremists. He also wanted to bring back death penalty for heinous crimes and drugs and plunder.
In his speech he condemns the corruption in PhilHealth. He commends the NBI for the arrest of
high profile criminals or those people who are in the position. He also want to improve the services
of LTO,SSS, BIR, and PAG-IBIG. Duterte brings up the temporary closure of barocay and the
rehabilitation of Manila Bay. He threatens to burn down establishments that commit violations.
The president also speaks about Dito telecommunity, the newly established third
telecommunications provider in the Philippines. He challenges them to render services to as many
Filipinos as possible. He also reports a decrease in the poverty incidence rate from 27.6% during
the first half of 2015 to 21% in the 1st half of 2018. He asks the congress to pass the salary
standardization law which will raise the salary for all national government workers including
nurses and teachers. He stated many achievements and what we will expect in his remaining years.
The stated above is just the major achievements and major things that we will expect from him.
He ended his speech by the second half of his term will be the period of consequences. He hopes
to for sustained momentum and in the remaining years of his term.
Becoming president is really a hard job because you have many things to consider
especially the voice of the people. You work hard to create and make steps that helps the country
to be in a better condition but most of the people don't see your worth. They just focusing on your
mistakes and in the problems that have not been solved. The people see the president like a robot.
They want all the problems to be solved quickly with just a minimal mistakes. I realize that State
of the Nation Address is really important because the people will know how you work hard to
solved the problems of the country. Also we can see the progress of the project made by the
president how its effective to improve our country's condition. In this SONA made by Duterte we
can see that he really wants solved atleast one major problem before his term expire. He really
reveals how much changes we have had and what we will expect in his remaining terms. I realize
in order to have an improve country, efforts need to be filled not just only by the president but also
the people of that country and the government officials. We need teamwork because it is not
personal problem that one person should solved but it’s a nation problem the people in a country
should act as one and be involved. The burden should not in the president but also the people in a
country. He has many achievements and future plans in the country that needs people to be

involved. Instead of bashing him, help him to solved the problems and don't add to the problems.
