To improve comfort and cleanliness at our school, a number of dustbins should be increased.
When we look at classrooms, school corridors and school yard, there are papers, mineral water cups,
straws and napkins here and there. The condition of uncleanliness and discomfort really hinders
learning and teaching environment. Litters thrown carelessly cause disease, especially empty plastic
cups or glasses. They can be filled out with water coming from the rain. This can be places for
dengue mosquitoes to spread out. Besides, this rubbish can deteriorate the scene. Well-painted wall
and green school yard do not mean anything if litters are scattered everywhere.
I notice that most of the students in our school have responsibilities for their school environment.
They put their litters on the proper places. But some are not diligent enough to find the dustbins. The
number of the dustbins in our school is not enough. Most dustbins should be put beside each of
steps, outside the classrooms and some more along the corridors. Probably one dustbin should be in
every ten meters. When students want to throw away their litters, they can find the dustbin easily.
When school is equipped with sufficient dustbins, we do not have problems of filth and discomfort
anymore. Our school will be very clean and become a nice place a study.
One of the biggest problems in America today is lack activity. We know it’s good for us but avoid
it like the plague either because we’re used to being sedentary to others or afraid that exercise has to
be vigorous to be worth our time. The truth is, movement is movement and there more you do, the
healthier you”ll be. Even moderate activities like chores, gardening and walking can make a different.
So, even if you opt for small changes and a more modest weight loss, you can see the benefits
are still pretty good. One study has found that just a 10% weight reduction helped obese patients
reduce blood pressure, cholesterol, and increase longevity.
You can start the process of weight loss now by adding a little more activity to your life. If you are
not ready for a structured program, start small. Every little bit counts and it all adds up to burning
more calories
3. “.……because we’re used to being sedentary to others or afraid….”. The underlined word
means…..
A. Helping out with each other
B. Ordering people to do things
C. Doing chores and gardening
D. Losing some weight
E. Preparing to move
More people are using plastic daily, without being aware of the dangers to the environment.
That’s why, our government makes effort to limit the use of plastic bags. People should limit or avoid
the use of plastic daily for the following reasons.
First, plastic is not biodegradable. In reality, most plastic doesn’t disappear, but becomes long-
lasting “plastic dust”. When items like plastic bags break down, they readily soak up ( and release )
toxins which then contaminate soil and water, and harm animals that ingest plastic fragments.
Second, every square mile of ocean has approximately 46,000 pieces of plastic floating in it. That
is why, over a million sea birds, whales, seals, dolphin, sea turtles and so on die from plastic debris
that end up in our oceans and seas. 100,000 sharks are also part of the death toll.
In addition to not breaking down quickly, plastic materials also break down dangerously. A lot of
plastic already contains toxins, such as phthalates, BPA and flame retardants. As plastic breaks
down, it can absorb many dangerous toxins more easily, such as damaging pesticides like DDT, PCB
and PAH.
In conclusion, plastic is dangerous for environment.
2. “…from plastic debris that end up in our oceans and seas.” ( paragraph 4 ).What is the similar
meaning of “debris “?
A. Fragments
B. Garbage
C. Lumps
D. Cuts
E. Dust

Yogyakarta is one of the foremost cultural centers of Java, the seat of the mighty Javanese empire of
Mataram from which present day Yogyakarta has the best inherited of traditions. The city itself has a
special charm, which seldom fails to captivate the visitor. Gamelan, classical and contemporary
Javanese dances, leather puppet, theater and other expressions of traditional art will keep the visitor
spellbound. Local craftsmen excel in arts such batiks, silver and leather works. Next to the traditional,
contemporary art has found fertile soil in Yogya's culture oriented society.
Yogyakarta is often called the main gateway to the Central Java as where it is geographically located.
It stretches from Mount Merapi to the Indian Ocean. There is daily air service to Yogya from Jakarta,
Surabaya and Bali as well as regular train service and easy accessibility by road. Yogyakarta is
commonly considered as the modern cultural of Central Java. It is a very lively city and a shopper's
delight. The main road, Malioboro Street, is always crowded and famous for its night street food-
culture and street vendors. Many tourist shops and cheap hotels are concentrated along this street or
in the adjoining tourist area such Sosrowijayan Street.

and despite the advance of modernity; it still emanates the spirit of refinement, which has been the
hallmark of Yogya's art for centuries. This vast complex of decaying buildings was built in the 18th

Human body is made up of countless millions of cells. Food is needed to built up new cells and
replace the worn out cells. However, the food that we take must be changed into substances that can
be carried in the blood to the places where they are needed. This process is called digestion.
The first digestive process takes place in the mouth. The food we eat is broken up into small pieces
by the action of teeth, mixed with saliva, a juice secreted by glands in the mouth. Saliva contains
digestive juice which moisten the food, so it can be swallowed easily.
From the mouth, food passes through the esophagus (the food passage) into the stomach. Here, the
food is mixed with the juices secreted by the cells in the stomach for several hours. Then the food
enters the small intestine. All the time the muscular walls of the intestine are squeezing, mixing and
moving the food onwards.
In a few hours, the food changes into acids. These are soon absorbed by the villi (microscopic branch
projections from the intestine walls) and passed into the bloodstream.

Solar energy evaporates exposed water from the seas, lakes, rives, and wet soil; the majority of this
evaporation take place over the seas. Water is also released into the atmosphere by the plants
through photosynthesis. During this process, as known as evapotranspiration, water vapor rises into
the atmosphere.
Cloud from when air becomes saturated with water vapor. The two major types of cloud formation are
saturated or layered grey clouds stratus and billowing white or dark grey cloud called cumulus clouds.
Precipitation as rain , or hail ensures that water return to Earth’s surface in a fresh water form. Some

Text 2
In winter there is snow on the mountains. When spring comes the sun comes out, it shines onto the
snow. The snow melts. The melting snow turns into water and flow off the mountain and enters the
rivers. The huge amount of water makes the water level rise.
If rock and concentrate areas surround rivers unable they can cause floods. If the rain falls
onto the rock, nothing can soak up the water. The water flows down the rocks and into the river.
When it rains for a long time, the huge amount of rain cannot soak into the soil. The water
forms small stream, the streams are led to the main river and fed it. As the water enters the river the
water level rises. If there is not a dam on the bank of the river, the river will flood.
During spring while the rivers are still blocked by ice, flood occur in Siberia. The snow melts
but the river is unable to flow because of ice. The river stops and builds up. When it gets up high as
the ice, it is already so high that it causes a flood.
Though floods occur in most parts of the world, they do not occur very often. In the past 250
years there were 150 major floods. The most flood-prone river is the Huang He River (also called the

NARRATIVE
A man with his donkey carrying two sacks of wheat was on his way to the market. After a little
while he was tired and they rested under a tree.
When he woke up from his nap he could not see the donkey and started searching for the
donkey everywhere. On the way he met a boy, he asked the boy, “Have you seen my donkey?” The
boy asked, “Is the donkey‟s left eye blind, his right foot lame and is he carrying a load of wheat?”
The man was happy and said, “Yes, exactly! Where have you seen it?” the boy answered “I haven‟t
seen it.” This made the man very angry and he took the boy to the village chief for punishment.
The judge asked, “Dear boy, if you had not seen the donkey, how could you describe it?” The
boy answered, “I saw the tracks of a donkey and the right and left tracks were different from this. I
understood that the donkey that passed there was limping. And the grass on the right side of the
road was eaten but the grass on the left was not. From that I understood that his left eye was blind.
There were wheat seeds scattered on the ground and I understood that he must have been carrying
a load of wheat. The judge understood the boy's cleverness and told the man to forgive the boy.

A long time ago, very few people lived in the New Territories. There were only a few villages.
If the people wanted to go from one village to another, they often had to pass through wild and unsafe
forest.
One day, a farmer’s young wife went to the next village to visit her own mother and brother.
She brought along her baby son. When it was time for her to leave, her brother said “ it is getting dark.
Let my son, Ah Tim go with you though the forest.”
So Ah Tim led the way and the young woman followed behind, carrying her baby. When they
were in the forest, suddenly they saw a group of wolves. They began to run to avoid the danger, but
Ah Tim kicked against a stone and fell down. At once the wolves caught him. The young woman cried
to the wolves, “ please eat my own son instead.” Then, she put her baby son on the ground in front of
the wolves and took her nephew away.
Everyone understood that this was because the woman was very good and kind. She had
offered her own son’s life to save her nephew.
They ran back to the house and called for help. All men in the village fetched thick sticks and
went back with her into the forest. When they got there, they saw something very strange. Instead of
eating the woman’s baby the wolves were playing with him.
The brother let her son go with his aunt as she left home because ….

B. The baby was too cute to be alone

wearing torn clothes.
They asked the porter about the charges for delivering their goods at their home. The old
porter quoted just a $20. The couple argued and bargained with the porter and finally settled $15. The
porter was struggling to make even one time’s meal so he needed anything he can earn. The couple
left after giving the porter their address for delivery.
They reached their home and hour passed, two hours passed, but the porter still hadn’t
delivered their stuff. The husband suggested her calm down and wait, but in vain. Then, they left

stuff in his cart! The wife asked him, “ Where is that old man? This is our stuff and he supposed to
deliver them. I think you are stealing our stuff and going to sell them”.
The porter replied, “Madam, please calm down. That poor old man was sick since last month.
He wasn’t able to earn enough to even have a single meal of the day. He was on the way to deliver
your stuff, but he was hungry, sick and couldn’t gather the strenght to go any further in this heat of the

Long ago, Sang Nila Utama, the prince of Sumatra, wanted a better place for a new city. He
tried very hard to look for it. Once, he spotted a deer at a nearby island and started chasing it.
He came to a very large rock and climbed it. When he reached the top, he looked across the
sea and saw another island with a white sandy beach.
One of his ministers told that it was the island of Temasek. Taking the risk, he sailed across the
sea quickly to Temasek. However, when his ship as out at sea, a great storm blew up and the
ship was tossed about in the huge waves. It began to take water. To prevent ship from sinking,
his man threw all the heavy things on board into the sea to lighten the ship. Strangely, the storm
died down after he threw his crown overboard. Then he reached Temasek safely.
After landing at Temasek, he went inland to hunt wild animals. Suddenly, he saw a strange
animal with a red body, black head and a white breast. It was a fine-looking animal and moved
with great speed as it disappeared into the jungle.
His chief minister told that it probably was a lion. He was pleased with this as he believed it to
be a good omen - a sign of good fortune coming his way. Thus, he started deveoping his new
city in Temasek. After working very hard day and night, a new city was found. He named this
city SINGAPURA. SINGA means lion and PURA means city.
Once upon a time, in eastern part of Java Island, there was a kingdom ruled by a king. The
king’s name was Prabu Menak Prakoso. One day, Prabu Menak and his soldiers invaded the
kingdom of Klungkung in Bali. The king of Klungkung was killed, yet his daughter, Made Surati, and
his son, Agung Bagus Mantra, were able to escape and hide in the jungle.
Prabu Menak Prakoso had a son named Raden Banterang. He was such a handsome young
man. One day, Raden Banterang went to the jungle for hunting. It was in the jungle that Raden
Banterang met Made Surati. She was then taken to Blambangan to be his wife. Raden Banterang and
Made Surati enjoyed a happy life in the Palace.
When Raden Banterang was hunting one day, Made Surati was surprised by the arrival of a
dirty beggar asking for her pity. The princess was surprised to find that the beggar was her older
brother, Agung Bagus Mantra. She promptly squatted and embraced her brother’s legs. However, her
great respect of her brother was not well accepted. Instead, Agung Bagus Mantra asked his sister to
kill Raden Banterang. But such a request was rejected. He was very angry with her and came up with
a sly idea to slander her.
Slowly but surely, Agung succeeded in convincing Raden Banterang that his wife had been
involved in a scandal with another man. Asking for compassion, Made Surati tried to tell the truth and
denied her husband’s accusation. Hearing his wife explanation, the king became angrier and angrier.
As a proof of her sacred love, she asked her husband to kill her. As her last request, she asked her
husband to throw her dead body into the river. She said that if the water in the river smelled terrible, it
meant that she had ever been sinful. But if it smelled fragrant, it meant that she was innocent.
Raden Banterang who was unable to control his emotions soon stabbed his kerís (dagger)
into his wife’s chest. She died instantly. The dead body of Made Surati was quickly thrown into the
dirty river. Raden Banterang was shocked to see the river suddenly become clean and as clear as
glass with a fragrant smell. Raden Banteraflll screamed crazily and regretted his deed. He walked
unsteadìly and fell into the river screaming, “Banyu… Wangì… Banyuwangi!” This means “fragrant
water”.Banyuwangi was born from the proof of noble and sacred love. From then on, the place is
called Banyuwangi.
After facing a series of crop failures over the past five years, farmers living near Mount
Sinabung in Karo regency, North Sumatra, now have a bigger chance of successful harvests by
growing onions, which are considered relatively resistant to volcanic ash from the volatile volcano.
The chairman of the Tebing Latersia farmers’ group, Budi Tarigan, said Mt. Sinabung’s
fluctuating activity since 2010 had extensively damaged croplands in surrounding areas, resulting in
huge losses for many farmers.
Some farmers, including Budi, then tried planting onions due to their high resistance to ash.
However, they faced difficulties in sustainability as they had to bring in onion seedlings from Brebes,
Central Java, and Majalengka, West Java, Budi said.
Such challenges, however, will no longer hamper local farmers’ efforts to make ends meet, as
Budi and dozens of other farmers in his group are now able to grow onion seedlings on their farms in
Batu Karang subdistrict, Payung district, and supply them to local residents.

JP, Wed, 24 January 2018: Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi says his side is looking to
help 556 young pilots gain employment.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of an aeronautical knowledge workshop for young pilots
in Jakarta on Wednesday, Budi said all stakeholders – the ministry, companies and aviation schools –
were responsible for solving the problem. Meanwhile, the ministry’s air transportation director general,
Agus Santoso, said a census carried out last year discovered the number of unemployed pilots.
“The workshop is part of an effort to provide knowledge to the pilots because young pilots
usually have a lack of aeronautical knowledge,” Agus said as reported by kompas.com. The
workshop was attended by 350 young pilots, said Agus, adding that a similar event was also
organized in December 2017.
The ministry’s airworthy and plane operation director general, Muzaffar Ismail, said two
aviation schools had closed, while another would also be shut down for failing to meet the national
standards for aviation schools. He added that his office had warned eight out of 21 aviation schools.
Minister Budi said carrying out mergers could be solution for aviation schools that could not
meet the minimum standards set by the government.(bbn)

Dear Sir,
I am one of the customers of this badminton center. I am a woman. I play badminton once a
week. I usually go with my girl friends. We spend our weekend in your place.
By this letter, I want to make a complaint about the restrooms. There are two restrooms for
women and men. They are very dirty and smell bad. I know that your badminton center is usually
visited by men. Sometimes they do not keep your restroom well.
You must do something about this problem. Please divide the restroom for women only and
men only. So, we will feel comfortable in your badminton center.

PROCEDU Batteries consist of two different metals suspended in an acidic solution. Copper from a
coin and a zinc nail work as the metals, and you can use a lemon’s acidic juice as the solution.
Connect a few together and you can power a light.
You will need:
5 large lemons
5 copper coins
5 zinc-galvanized nails
5 alligator clips
6 lengths of insulated wire
3-volt-LED
Steps:
1. Insert a coin into a cut made on one end of a lemon, and leave it sticking out slightly. Push a
galvanized nail into the other end of the lemon. Do the same for four lemons.
2. Wrap the bare end of one wire around the nail and attach an alligator clip to the other end. Repeat
with the other nails, but leave one wire without a clip. Save this for the remaining length of wire.
3. Take the wire from one lemon and clip the free and to coin in another lemon. Do this in sequence.
You should have free lead at each end of the chain.
4. Link the lead from the nail to the negative (short) LED wire, and the lead from the last coin to the
positive (long) wire. The LED should be light up, giving you a lemon-powered battery.

On August 14,1945, Japan surrended unconditionally to the Allies. The news was kept secret
by the Japanese army in Indonesia, but Sutan Syahrir, the youth of Indonesia, knew it through the
BBC Radio Broadcasts in London on August 15,1945. At the same time, Ir. Soekarno and Drs. Moh
Hatta returned to the Indonesia from Saigon, Vietnam.
On August 15, at 8 p.m., under the leadership of Chairul Saleh, younger groups and older
groups gathered in the backroom Bacteriologi Laboratory which located in Jalan Pegangsaaan Timur
number 13, Jakarta. The younger group argued that Indonesia must declared their independence
immediately. But the older group didn’t agree that. Because of that, independence should be
discussed on PPKI meeting on August 18, 1945.
Because there was a different opinion between older groups and younger groups, younger
groups brought Soekarno and Hatta to Rengasdengklok in early morning of August 16, 1945.
Rengasdengklok was chosen because it was located away from Jakarta. Yonger groups tried to push
Soekarno and Hatta to declare Indonesia Independence
After had a long discussion, Soekarno was willing to declare it after returning to Jakarta. At that
moment in Jakarta, Wikana from younger groups and Ahmad Soebarjo from older groups made a

guarantee their safety. Finally, Soekarno and Hatta were picked from Rengasdengklok.
Text of Proclamation of Indonesia Independence formulated by Soekarno, Hatta, and Ahmad
Subarjo. Once the text was completed and approved, Sajuti Melik then copied and typed the
manuscript used a typewriter.
At first Proclamation of Indonesia Independence would be read at Ikala Field. But looked at the
road to the Ikada Field was guarded by japanese army. Finally they moved to residence of Soekarno
at Jalan Pegangsaan Timur number 56 Jakarta.
On the day of Friday, August 17 1945, Soekarno read the Proclamation of Indonesia
Independence text and then connected with a short speech without text. After that, Latif Hendra
