Reflection Paper

Every day of my life, I always found myself staring at something without actually the
intention of looking at it but just the physical outside result of involuntarily engaging myself to a
deeper thought and questioning – what is my purpose of living in accordance to God’s will? Last
Friday’s talk, Talk on Mission by Fr. Tubia partly answers the question I’ve been seeking and
contemplating. I am inspired on what he shares about his life as a missionary, a dedicated
lifetime purpose of obeying and loving God in the expression or means of being an instrument to
those who are lost, and in hunger and thirst for God’s presence. My question is partly answered
in the way wherein I was able to realize that helping others in need and guiding them to know
God and be near to Him is living God’s will and in express of love and adoration to Him. It is not
necessary to fly across the country to help our fellow brothers and sisters in need. We just only
need to focus our attention to those people in need surrounding us; the poor in physical and in
spirit, emotionally circumstanced friends, privilege-deprived persons that are being captive and
chained by these unfortunate factors hindering them to see and feel God’s love to them. He
further shares his experiences as a missionary of Christ in Africa – the feeling of joy, hardship,
sorrows, and bliss in spreading His word and goodness to others. As Christ himself endures the
strife and agony at the cross, we are also bound to carry our cross but not as burden as Christ’s
for our cross in Christ is light and we could find rest in Him when our hearts are heavily
burdened. The speaker also imparted the fundamental aspects of baptism and mission, Baptism is
encompassed with the word RISE; Rebirth, Incorporation, Consecration, and Empowerment.
Furthermore, he explains that baptism is a main key which opens the different doors that leads us
to God in our day to day Christian life. Afterwards, Fr. Tubia emphasized the word MISSION
the point and meaning that must be noted by every Christ follower and seeking for God’s
obedience. The word MISSION means where: M stands for Master’s Plan where God’s will
must be a priority in every decision and actions we will make; I stands for Interdependence
where teamwork is basic in missionary work; S stands for Strong will, a value of not giving up
on every circumstances we might face as a missionary in Christ; S stands for Simplicity which
means a life of contentment; I for Immediate action; O for Oneness or having a sense of unity to
others; and N which stands for New Life in Christ, “wherein the old has gone and the new has
come” (2 Corinthians 5:17). As a believer and follower of Christ, it is not necessary that we must
have to become a missionary and travel across the globe to share God’s grace and goodness to
others. We are called by God and we are endowed with different vocations in life which is in
accordance to His will and the complexity of His ways that no man could ever comprehend.
