from th e beginning of Kali yu ga t ill the beginning of the Saliva~

hana era . This is done as follows:-
In a M ah ayu ga ( i.e. collectio n of the four yu ga s) the number
o f Sola r years is 432‫סס‬OO =3 750 X 1152. T hat of Jupiter for the
same period is 4370688=3794 X 1152. Hence for every 3750 solar
years we h ave 3794 jovial years. Therefore 1 solar year=3794 =
3750
Irlh· years of Jupiter . Now we have to find out th e number of
Jupiter's years past in K ali yuga at th e beginning of the Saliv'li-
hana era . For th is proceed thu s :
The nwnbe r of sola r years past from the beginning of Kali
Yuga up to the b eg inn ing of th e Saka era is 3179. This sho uld be
convert ed into J up iter 's years: 3794 x 3 179 or 3216 1126
3750 3750 '
Now it is known that ka liy uga started in the yea r Vij aya
(wh ich is th e 27th from Prabhava). T he refore , 3216-l{H + 26 (26 is
the numb er of years elapsed from Prabhava at the be ginning of

2ii '; ~ which means it is th e Srd yea r Viz. Sukla , of th e cycle of 60
years of J up it er.
Now com ing to th e current yea r of the Saka era , vi z. 1894,
the number of jovia n years elapsed is 1893 +.i-}ri- lll +2H H yean
from the beginning of Prabhava. It is 1 893 + 2 2';""·T~o + 2}H ~ or

is th e case with th e Northern or true system. 11 has no connect ion
with th e mo vement of J upit er , and Pramathin is regarded as the

sou thern one. So by deducting 12 yea rs from 57 got by us, we

arr ive at 45. w h ich should be ta ken as the current , a nd not past
S amvatsara in the sout he rn system. Now d ivid e this 67 b y 5 in
order to get the yu gas and yea rs. W e get then II yu gas a nd 2
year s, whi ch means that it is the Parioatsara yea r in the last yuga
known as Bhaga (Sun). T he cur rent yea r would be Idavatsara

resul t got above viz. 51 . by 9 in one p la ce, and divid e t he same
(57) by 12. Add up th ese results. Then d ivide th e sum b y 4 . The

from Dhan i' 1h a. ( For. it ha s been decla red th at at th e commence-

Thus 57X 9=513, 57-;- 12"",1.'75, By addi ng 513 +4 '75=617"75.
Divide this by 4 = :H7.75..;-.4=129.4 , This means tha t J upiter was
