Airside Safety Notice – Foreign Object Debris (FOD)

Ground crew spotted a metal screw embedded in the Left Hand

nose wheel of an A380 after it was towed from remote stand to a
gate at Terminal building. The wheel was subsequently replaced
and this led to a delayed departure of the A380 by about 1 hour.

Safety Reminders:
1. Do a FOD check of the aircraft stand before towing an
aircraft into it.
2. All personnel working in the airside must inspect their work
area to ensure no items are left behind.
3. All personnel are reminded to look out for potential FOD
items and actively help to remove or report them.

Permit-to-Work (PTW) System for Work-At-Height (WAH)

Under what circumstances do I need to implement the PTW system for WAH?

A permit-to-work (PTW) is required for work at heights where a person could fall from a height of more
than 3 metres, including falling into depth (referred to as hazardous work at heights).

In SIAEC workplaces, a PTW is required for these WAH activities, including but are not limited to the
following:
1. Working on aircraft body and wing, and anchored to certified anchorage points or systems
such as WinGrip or lifelines.
2. Working on a maintenance platform at a height of more than 3 metres, with barricades
removed. E.g. Working on aircraft APU.
