1. Kenapa pilih judul ini?

- As stated in my chapter I that pronunciation becomes one of important things when


we learn English and pronunciation is the biggest thing that people notice about our
English. That has been state by Fraser (2000) hal 2. For example, we can communicate
without advance vocabulary or grammar, but we cannot communicate with bad
pronunciation. It means that, we can use simple words or simple grammar structure to
say what we want to say, but there is no such things as “simple pronunciation” and the
consequences of bad pronunciation is people may simply not understand what you want
to say even if we use correct grammar or words.

2. Apa perbedaan error dan mistakes? #


Mistake 'refers to the fault of students that is based on the failure to use a particular
system (words) are already known. This means that the student is actually already
recognize, know and understand about that word. While the 'Error' refers to
students' mistakes in terms of understanding, this means that the students do not
recognize, know, and understand the word, they need someone (who understand, it
can be the teacher itself) to correct it.

the similarity of my research with the previous study is that we want to know about the
errors of pronunciation, but our scope and limitation are different. the previous research
wants to know about the students’ error in ESP program and also he wants to know the
cause of the error, while i want to describe the segmental error that made by students in
learning English.

- When you talk to a person in real life, they may not notice your limited vocabulary or
grammar mistakes. But they will notice right away if your pronunciation is good or bad.
If your pronunciation is poor, they will think about you as the guy/girl who speaks bad
English, and good grammar and vocabulary won’t help you!
Alasan communication:

Good pronunciation should be one of the first things that you learn in English. You can live
without advanced vocabulary — you can use simple words to say what you want to say. You can
live without advanced grammar — you can use simple grammar structures instead. But there is
no such thing as “simple pronunciation”. If you don’t have good pronunciation, you have bad
pronunciation.

And the consequences of bad pronunciation are tragic. Even if you use correct grammar, people
may simply not understand what you want to say
Error and mistakes dalam bahasa Indonesia

Mistake’ mengacu kepada kesalahan siswa yang didasarkan pada dugaan yang salah
atau kegagalan untuk menggunakan sistem tertentu yang sudah dikenal. Ini berarti
siswa sebenarnya sudah mengenali, mengetahui dan memahami pola tertentu dalam
menggunakan bahasa yang akan digunakan. Akan tetapi karena faktor ‘slip of the
tounge’(kesalahan pengucapan), tata bahasa yang tidak teratur, kesalahan dalam
mengingat, atau bahkan faktor-faktor fisik seperti kelelahan dan emosi yang tak
terkendali.

Sedangkan ‘Eror’ mengacu kepada kesalahan siswa dalam hal pemahaman. Jadi,
kesalahan yang tampak disini adalah bukan karena siswa mengalami faktor-faktor
teknis seperti ‘slip of the tongue’ tetapi kesalahan yang nampak disini adalah kesalahan
yang menggambarkan bahwa siswa belum mengenali, mengetahui, dan memahami pola
bahasa yang digunakan.

Penting untuk mengetahui perbedaan antara mistake dan eror karena kesalahan yang
dilakukan didasarkan pada dua kondisi yang berbeda. Mistake terjadi karena ‘eror in
performance’ dan Eror terjadi karena ‘eror in competence’. Untuk membedakanya cara
yang dilakukan adalah dengan mengecek kembali kesalahan tersebut kepada siswa yang
bersangkutan. Jika dia mampu mengenali dan mengoreksi kesalahan yang dibuat, ini
menunjukkan bahwa kesalahan yang dibuat adalah ‘eror in performance’ yang berarti
kesalahannya adalah mistake.

Sedangkan apabila siswa tidak bisa mengenali dan mengoreksi kesalahan yang dibuat
berarti kesalahannya adalah sebuah ‘eror in competence’ yang berarti eror. Akan tetapi,
hal lain yang perlu diperhatikan adalah kontinuitas atau kekonsistenan kesalahan siswa
yang tampak dalam setiap produksi bahasanya. Setelah dicek kontinuitasnya, maka baru
dilakukan kroscek kepada siswa atas kesalahanya tersebut.

used. But because of the 'slip of the tounge' (faulty pronunciation), grammar irregular,
mistakes in remembering, or even physical factors such as fatigue and uncontrollable
emotions.

While the 'Error' refers to students' mistakes in terms of understanding. Thus, the error
appears here is not because students experiencing technical factors such as 'slip of the
tongue' but the error is an error that appears here shows that students do not recognize,
know, and understand the patterns of the language used.

It is important to know the difference between mistake and error because of mistakes
made based on two different conditions. Mistake happens because 'error in performance'

and Error occurs because 'error in competence'. Membedakanya way to do this is to


check the error back to the students concerned. If he is able to recognize and correct a
mistake made, it indicates that the error made is 'error in performance' which means the
fault was mistake.

Meanwhile, if students are not able to recognize and correct a mistake made significant
fault was an 'error in competence' which means error. However, another thing to note is
continuity or consistency errors student who appears in every language production.
Once checked continuity, then the newly performed kroscek to students on these
mistakes.
