Back in the early 1900s, only about 5% of women
gave birth in an actual hospital. Midwives facilitated
most births at home. Obstetrics as a specialty, was in
its infancy and to grow this specialty, doctors built
maternity buildings called “lying-in hospitals” where
women, near term, could go where they could get
anesthesia if needed. It took a while to train enough
doctors in the art of birthing but it would soon become
a popular way to have a baby.
Hip replacement surgery is a godsend for those who
have painful arthritic hips.
It was back in 1925 that the first mold arthroplasty
made out of glass was created. It didn’t work that well
or last very long but it was the beginning of a surgery
that has become commonplace today. New materials
are being discovered to make the surgery better and
longer-lasting.
Lice season is upon us again and parents are
wondering what is the best way to irradicate them.
The mayonnaise method of suffocating the lice is often
mentioned but it’s messy and its efficacy is unproven.
Proven methods include non-prescription products like
Nix, R&C and Resultz are most effective. It is important
to comb out the lice eggs (nits) after treatment because
these treatments don’t kill 100% of the lice eggs.
Pharmacists are a great source of advice for treating
lice problems.
Did you know we have a half million sweat glands in
our feet? Sweat often contributes to smelly feet. It’s
important to wash and drying the feet daily. Wearing
cotton socks and applying a good moisturizing cream
will help to reduce odours.

been contacted under false pretense by an illegitimate business attempting to sell water filters. In the
cases reported to Administration, representatives of this illegitimate business communicated false and
misleading information to Residents regarding the Town’s water quality in effort to manipulate Residents
into purchasing their filters.
TOWN OF

The Town would like to reassure residents that water quality in the Town of Strathmore is continuously
monitored by EPCOR who provides industry leading water utility expertise across Canada. Administration
has contacted EPCOR who provided the following confirmation: “We assure you that the tap water in
Strathmore is clean and safe to drink,” said Kevin Visser, EPCOR Senior Manager, Regional Operations.
“EPCOR treats and distributes water in Strathmore that meets or exceeds all water quality requirements
set by provincial standards and Health Canada’s guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality,”
Administration would like to remind all residents that legitimate businesses are required to carry a copy
of their business license and provide proof upon request. Official business licenses will have the Town
of Strathmore corporate seal stamped over the signature. Should any resident have further questions
regarding the Town’s water quality or standards EPCOR can be contacted directly at (403) 934-9440.
