North America was the largest market for MDM products, accounting for 65 percent of
the revenue last year, followed by Western Europe, with 17 percent of the revenue.

The research firm said that BYOD would continue to drive the demand for MDM
products, with an increasing emphasis on security features. It predicted that the
MDM market would evolve toward more comprehensive enterprise mobility management
products.

"This entails many of the services for optimizing and enabling mobile applications
and data on the device, as well as for ensuring the security of that data. Many
products are still evolving in this area, but it will be the primary focus of many
MDM providers during the next few years," the report explained.

AirWatch CEO John Marshall said that his firm is "very excited to be recognized as
a leader" by Gartner. "One of the things we have done is invest in people. We have
added almost 1,000 people over the last 12 months," Marshall told FierceMobileIT.

Gartner said that AirWatch has had some "negative experiences specifically
regarding implementation and postsales technical support for on-premises
installations and upgrades." Marshall attributed the problems to the firm's rapid
global expansion.

"We have some of the largest global rollouts in the world ... Coordinating and
making system upgrades possible becomes very challenging" for large on-premise
customers, Marshall said. "We have opportunities" for improvement, he admitted.

AirWatch recently secured $25 million in funding from Accel and Insight Venture
Partners, bringing its total funding raised this year to $225 million. AirWatch
plans to use this funding to continue its global rollout, Marshall noted.
