1. GENERAL
This specification is intended to cover the design, manufacture, assembly, testing at the
manufacturer's works, supply & delivery of two (2) nos. of 400 kVA, 33/0.4 kV, Vector
group: Zyn11, Earthing Transformers, with all accessories for efficient and trouble-free
operation.

2. SCOPE
Type, rating and connections of the equipment listed detailed in the datasheet. The
equipment shall be offered in strict compliance with the same.

Two (2) Nos. of 33/0.4kV, 400kVA, ONAN Cooled, Copper wound Earthing Transformers.
The neutral of the earthing transformer shall be solidly earthed to provide earthed
neutral for the 33 kV systems.

Each transformer shall be furnished with

6. OTI and WTI
7. Breathers
8. Radiator
9. LV Cable box
10. MOG
11. Transformer Oil

3. STANDARDS
All standards, specifications and codes of practice referred the latest version of IEC
Standards.
International standards Description
IEC 60076-6/ IS:3151 Earthing Transformer
IEC 60137 Insulated bushings for alternating voltages
above 1000 V bushing

4. DESIGN CRITERIA
The design of the Earthing transformers shall be based on the following requirements:
a) Earthing transformer has oil immersed, class A insulated, will be installed at
outdoor fitted with bushing on HV side. Earthing transformer shall consist of
winding shall be connected inter-star (zigzag) in accordance with the relevant IEC
/ IS group.

b) The neutral point of the ZIG-ZAG winding shall be brought out of the tank through
a bushing insulator. This point will be connected to earth directly in order to
provide an earthed neutral for 33 kV systems.
c) The transformers shall be designed for full-load operation at ambient temperature
of 50oC
d) The maximum permissible temperature rises of the transformer oil (top oil) shall
not exceed 45K, the average temperature rise of the winding is to be limited to
50K, and the winding hot spot temperature rise shall not exceed 78K. The hot spot
factor (H) for power transformers with core form type of core shall be 1.5 for
thermal evaluation of heat-run tests.

e) The transformer shall be capable of continuous operation at rated output under


the following condition

a. Voltage variation: 33 kV, 0.4 kV +/- 10 %


b. Frequency variation: 50 Hz +/- 3%

f) The transformer shall be capable of withstanding a fault current of 874 Amps at


rated voltage and frequency through the neutral for a time duration of 30 seconds
without using neutral grounding resistor and without exceeding the temperature
of 250℃for copper.
g) The minimum zero sequence impedance per phase of this earthing transformer
will not be less than 36 ohms. This will ensure that the maximum fault current for
a solid earth fault on the earthing transformer terminals will not exceed
acceptable values.

h) The maximum flux density in any part of the core and yokes, at normal voltage and
frequency of each transformer shall be consistent with the material used. The
maximum flux density shall be 1.6 Tesla.

i) The thermal ability to withstand short circuit shall be proved by calculation and
shall be furnished along with the drawings.
j) The transformer shall be free from hum or vibration. The design shall be such as
not to cause undesirable interference with radio or communication circuit

k) The transformer will be installed in hot, humid and tropical atmosphere. All
equipment, accessories and wiring shall be provided with tropical finish to
prevent fungus growth.

5. CONSTRUCTION FEATURES
Core & Coils
The core shall be built up with high grade, non-aging, low loss, high permeability, grain
oriented, cold-rolled silicon steel laminations especially suitable for core material.

Transformer Oil
The insulation oil shall be new inhibited paraffin based mineral oil with anti-oxidant
(phenolic) additives, and shall have properties such as to avoid formation of Copper
Sulphide under continuous heavy loading conditions even without passivator additives.
It shall be severely hydro-treated, and shall have properties complying with latest version
of IEC 60296.
Main Tank with Radiator and Conservator
The transformer tank shall be of the upper flange, Conventional type and the transformer
tank shall have rectangular shape.
The completely assembled tank including radiators, conservator, and associated oil piping
shall be fully vacuum proof.
All transformer tanks and radiators with fins shall be subject to oil leak tests as specified in
the relevant Articles for Inspections and Tests.
Bushing turret covers, access-holes covers, pockets of thermometer shall be designed to
prevent any ingress of water.
The minimum Tank plate thickness cover shall be 5mm. The design of the tank is such
that the bottom plate shall be in direct contact with the surface of the foundations the
foregoing minimum plate thickness shall be increased to 10 mm

Conservator vessels
The conservator shall be designed so that it can be completely drained by means of the
drain valve provided. Conservator vessel shall be designed with removable end cover and
prismatic oil gauge. The feed pipe extension into the conservator shall not be less than 40
mm. End of the conservator shall be bolted into position so that it can be removed for
cleaning purposes.
Magnetic Oil Gauge
Oil gauges of approved type shall be provided one at each end of the conservator. One
gauge shall preferably be of the direct reading prismatic type. The oil level mark on the
gauges shall be subjected to approval. Taps or valves shall not be fitted along with oil
gauges.

Breathers
Each conservator vessel shall be fitted with a breather in which silica gel is the
dehydrating agent and designed so that: -
 The passage of air is through the silica gel.
 The external atmosphere is not continually in contact with the silica gel.
 The moisture absorption indicated by a change in color of the tinted crystals can
be easily observed. At least 25% of the total quantity of silica gel crystals shall be
tinted.
All breathers shall be mounted not more than 1.5 meters above ground level.

Buchholz relay
Buchholz relay shall be Double float gas and oil actuated with a valve, placed in the pipe
connecting the conservator and the transformer tank. Two hinged floats, one at the top
of the chamber and the other at the bottom of the chamber which accompanies a mercury
switch shall be presented in the oil filled chamber. The mercury switch on the upper float
shall be connected to an external alarm circuit and the mercury switch on the lower shall
be connected to an external trip circuit.

6. TERMINALS
Bushings
The terminals shall be brought out through outdoor type bushings on HV side conforming
to IEC 60137. The neutral point of the ZIG-ZAG winding shall be brought out of the tank
through a bushing insulator.
Bushings shall be preferably oil-filled as per IEC standard or equivalent. Oil impregnated
paper outdoor condenser bushings shall be provided.
The bushing shall have high factors of safety against leakage to ground and shall be so
located as to provide adequate electrical clearances between bushings and grounded
parts.
All bushings shall be equipped with suitable terminals of approved type and size. The
insulation class of the high voltage neutral bushing shall be properly coordinated with
the insulation class of the neutral of the high voltage winding.
Each bushing shall be so coordinated with the transformer insulation that all flash-over
will occur outside the tank. The spacing between the bushings must be adequate to
prevent flashover between phases under all conditions of operation.
All bushings shall be porcelain type with homogeneous and free from cavities or other
flaws and shall be suitable for heavily polluted atmosphere. The glazing shall be uniform
in colour and free from blisters, burns and other defects.
Earthing transformers shall be provided with Line Bushing Current Transformer (LBCT)
and Neutral Bushing Current Transformer (NBCT). Bushing current transformers shall
comply with specified standards. Bushing CT details are given in Datasheet.
a) It shall be possible to remove turret mounted CT’s from the transformer tank,
without removing the cover.
b) All the secondary leads including tapings shall be brought to a weatherproof
outlet box near the bushing. From this weather proof out-let box, CT leads shall
be brought up to transformer marshalling box or control cabinet through
conduit wiring using minimum 2.5mm2 wire.

Neutral bushings shall be mounted in a position from which a connection can be taken to
a neutral current transformer mounted on a bracket secured to the transformer tank.
Provision for current transformer shall be made on the tank for mounting.

Cable Termination Boxes

Cable boxes of adequate proportion and design shall be provided in accordance with the
latest issue IEC& IS standards.

Air insulated cable box with disconnecting chambers will be provided for terminating 33
kV and 400 V system. LV Neutral shall be brought out in the cable box for connecting to
AC Distribution Board and also brought out through an outdoor bushing for grounding.

Three (3) Nos 630A HRC fuses shall be mounted between LV Bushing terminals and LV
Cable termination point for protection against LV Cable faults.

The cable boxes shall be suitable for following cables,


a. 1R of 1C x 95 sq mm per phase, XLPE, Cu, armoured cable. (HV side)
b. 2R of 3.5 C x 95 sq mm per phase, XLPE, Cu, armoured cable. (LV side)
c. Suitable compression sockets (Cable lugs) made of copper shall be provided

The cable boxes shall be suitable for connection of vertically arranged power cables.
33kV cable boxes shall be designed for connecting 3 runs of single-core copper conductor
cables of 630 mm2 and one run of 95 mm2 cables.
Cable box shall have suitable air insulated disconnecting chamber with disconnecting
links to facilitate taking out the transformer for maintenance without disturbing the cable
terminations.

7. COOLING
ONAN Cooling
Transformers of a rated power up to 400kVA per unit shall be provided with a self-cooled
type of cooling system (ONAN) provided by detachable radiators flanged directly onto
the tank and/or external headers at the transformer tank, mainly in the vicinity of the
core-/coil-arrangement at the two along sides of the transformer. The nominal sheet steel
thickness of the radiator walls shall be not less than 1.0 mm.

8. PIPING AND VALVES


All piping required for the connection/filling of the various parts of the transformers as
well as the valves required for oil sampling, Pressure relief, draining, filtering, connection
of the radiators, drain and vent plugs, etc. are to be included.

9. MEASURING AND MONITORING EQUIPMENT


The equipment of this item shall be wired up to terminal blocks inside the control kiosk.
The complete wiring shall be of highly flexible stranded copper and shall be furnished
with approved slip-over ferrules at both ends.
All equipment installed in control and marshalling cabinets shall be designed for a cubicle
inside temperature of 70oC.

All monitoring equipment arranged outside the cabinet(s) shall be of protection category
IP55.

10. DOCUMENTS / DRAWINGS FOR SUBMISSION


i) GA Drawing
ii) GTP
iii) Sub-suppliers of raw materials as well as bought out accessories & components
shall be selected from those furnished along with offers.
iv) Type test certificates of the raw materials and bought out accessories as required
by the utility.

11. TESTING AND INSPECTION


The tests shall be performed in accordance with the latest issues of the recommendations
of the IEC 60076 standards supplemented by these specifications

ROUTINE TEST

1. Measurement of winding resistance


2. Measurement of zero sequence impedance
3. Measurement of no-load loss and current
4. Dielectric tests
5. Measurement of voltage ratio and check of voltage vector relationship
6. Measurement of short-circuit impedance and load loss.
7. Separate source a.c. withstand voltage test of the auxiliary winding and of the
control and measuring wiring,

TYPE TESTS AND SPECIAL TESTS

1. Dielectric tests
2. Temperature rise tests
3. Demonstration of ability to withstand rated short-time neutral current
4. Measurement of no-load loss and current at maximum operating voltage
5. Measurement of acoustic sound level
6. Short-circuit test of the transformer with the secondary winding short-circuited

12. GUARANTEED VALUES AND PENALTIES


For the guarantee data not mentioned hereinafter tolerances in accordance with IEC 60076
shall apply.

12.1 LOSSES
If the no-load losses of a power transformer exceed the guaranteed value, an amount per
kW for each full kW in excess of the guaranteed value will be deducted from the Contract
Price.

If the load losses (plus auxiliary power losses) of a power transformer exceed the value
guaranteed, an amount per kW for each full kW in excess of the guaranteed value will be
deducted from the Contract Price.
Tenders will be assessed using the following formulae: -
Total cost = P + 11.65 (164.9 fe+30.5 Cu) US$
Where
P = tender price of transformers.
Fe = no load loss expressed in kilowatts as shown in the schedule of particulars.
Cu= Full load loss expressed in Kilowatts as shown in the schedule of particulars.
It is thereby understood that values of 0.5kW and above will be rounded up to the next full
kW.

12.2 RATED POWER AND OUTPUT


The maximum permissible temperature rise of the transformer oil (top oil) shall not exceed
45K, the average temperature rise of the winding is to be limited to 50K, and the winding
hot spot temperature rise shall not exceed 78K.

12.3 NOISE LEVEL


Noise level shall be measured at the specified distance for power transformers. Excess
noise level beyond the guaranteed value is not acceptable.

12.4 IMPEDANCE
The value of impedance measured on normal and extreme taps shall be as stated in the
GTP. Minimum and maximum values where stated in the data sheets shall not be subject
to tolerance.
