DAVIES PAINTS

This company claims to be the best paint exporter in the Philippines. It has over 1200
distribution networks, and the brand is available in most hardware and modern retail stores and
paint centers nationwide.
Their raw materials: solvents, resins, pigments and various additives are imported from
outside the country. The first step in making paints involve mixing the pigment, with resin,
solvents and additives to form a paste. All the raw materials are processed in a high-speed
dispersion tank, in which a circular, toothed blade is attached to a rotating shaft agitates the mixture
and blends the pigment into the solvent.
There is not much to see in the manufacturing process of their paints, much of their work
is concentrated in their Research and Development branch. They are much concentrated in
innovating new types of paints suitable in every weather and in extreme conditions. Also, they
developed odorless paints, quick drying water-based enamel paints. As for now they continuing to
innovate and pioneer new paints that will give more hues to this world.
An advocate for environmental protection and community development, the company is in
close association with DENR and LLDA. The plant is open for surprise inspections and evaluation.
All solid wastes, paint containers, and cans are recycled or collected to be disposed at a nearby
landfill.
We were warmly welcomed by the plant directors when we arrived. They even made a
tarpaulin for our visit. To add it up, they even gave us snacks and juice after the tour. At the height
of their generosity, they gave us give-away shirts contained in plastic containers.
The tour started in their R&D department. We saw how all their new products are tested in
different painting mediums, from wood to concrete. They have a weather simulator equipment in
which their product is tested on how it will react in extreme weather conditions. They answered
each of the questions we asked, and they were polite in every step of the way. There is not much
to see in their manufacturing process since mixing is the only thing that is involved. The products
are systematically stacked in their warehouse. They even had an advanced stacking technique in
which the bundle of the products slides and replaces the one that was taken.
The workers in both the R&D and manufacturing department are required to wear PPE’s
because of the striking smell of the chemicals, especially the solvents. Most of the workers in R&D
department are women. They are proved to be much meticulous in differentiating colors as
compared to men.

My tendency in working at Davies Paints: 3/10

I can’t even differentiate a purple from indigo.
