Fresh Graduate Program 2019 ‐ Case Study

Flotation Reagent
Unit
Scope of Work

1 Introduction

The project scope is to build a new flotation reagent unit. JESA will have to provide the basic
design for the concepts that have been develop in the previous phase.

At the end of basic phase, it is expected to provide a complete basic solution that will allow
reaching the project goal. That includes a complete set of P&IDs, Datasheet of Mechanical
equipment and drawings.

2 Scope of work
The fresh graduates are requested to provide a complete folder including all disciplines
deliverables within 3 weeks. This folder should contain:

2.1 Process:

 Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s):

To provide Process Flow Diagram for the missing system

 Completed Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (PID’s):

To complete the PID’s with different missing components

 Completed Equipment Datasheets:

To complete Equipment Datasheets with the missing Process information

2.2 Civil:

 Tank and Equipment Foundations Design:

To perform the design and show the different steps and verifications of the foundations
(stability, reinforcement analysis…)

2.3 Mechanical:

 Technical Bid Analysis:

To fill an excel sheet, which gathers all technical information and the scope of supply of
query, requested to make a technical bid evaluation (TBE). During the TBE phase, the
requisition engineer fills the information from the bidder documents to facilitate the
comparative analysis between bidders.
 Completed Equipment Datasheets:

To complete Equipment Datasheets with the missing Mechanical information

 Completed Equipment Drawings:

To complete drawing which summarizes the equipment parameters (performance data,

connection information, general notes, elevation view, thicknesses, dimensions,
foundations, material of construction…)

2.4 Electrical:

 Electrical Equipment List:

This list is the initial input to produce all other electrical deliverables. It gathers all the
equipment needed in the project (pumps motors, agitators, compressors) based
mainly on the process equipment list.

This list must contain the tag number, nominal voltage, power rating and duty type
(emergency/non-emergency, continuous/intermittent, working/stand-by).
 SLD (Single Line Diagram):
Based on the electrical equipment list, the SLD is prepared by defining the type of
feeders and representing the transformers, loads, MCCs, protection & measuring
devices and all main equipment.
 Electrical Calculations (Transformer sizing, Icc, Cable sizing):
It contains mainly:
 Transformer sizing: based on the power balance calculation the rating of the
transformers (distribution and lighting) will be defined.
 Cable sizing and short circuit current Icc calculations will be done using
conventional software.

2.5 Piping:

 Plot Plan Optimization:

Review the arrangement of Equipment and suggest options for improvement.

 Piping Material Specification Update (complete one Piping class

specification):
Finalize the PMS by calculation the thickness of the pipe
2.6 Instrumentation & Control:

 Basis of Design

Covers the general requirements for instrumentation design, fabrication and installation.

 Instrument Index List

Is a document containing specification and information of an instrument device; the

details of information in data sheet may differ among each types of instrument such as
transmitter, switch, gauge, control valves…etc.

 Control System Strategy

The purpose of this document is to give a brief description about the Integrated Control
system (ICS) architecture, and Set the minimum engineering standard for the
integration of the new I/Os of the project in new ICSS systems;

It defines the strategy to be considered in term of:

- Component locations,
- Segregations,
- Electrical, instrumentation and packages interfaces if any.

All requirements and suggestions are considered as basic engineering standard and
based on the Plot plan, Process Flow Diagrams and electrical buildings definition and
layout

 One Instrument Datasheet (Template Example)

2.7 Safety in Design

 Preliminary Risk Analysis:

Identify and assess the different HSE risks and propose actions/solutions to mitigate
them.

 Plot Plan Review:

Check Piping Plot Plan and give all measurement to ensure a safe arrangement.
2.8 Environment

 PFD Review

 Environmental basic report

3 Need more information/ document?
The fresh graduates can raise Request For Information (RFI) (maximum two RFI per week) if they
need additional information. The RFI will be send only by the leads of the groups to
salwa.aglagal@jacobs-esa.com

4 Presentation
 Each one from the team has to participate during the presentation.

 It will be great to give a name to your team.

 The fresh graduates will be evaluated on 3 criteria: Communication and Presentation,

Teamwork and Technical skills.

 The presentation duration: 20 minutes

 Jury’s deliberation: 10 minutes.
