9. Using Thevenin’s theorem , find the current flowing through the 12  resistor in the
circuit given below

10. A coil of inductance 1 H and resistance 100  is connected to a battery of emf 12 V.


Find the energy stored in the magnetic field associated with the coil at an instant of
time 10 ms after the circuit is switched on.
11. A Helmholtz galvanometer has 70√5 turns of coil with radius 11 cm. Calculate the
current through the coils which produces a deflection of 45° when the coils are
parallel to the magnetic meridian. What will be the deflection if the current is
doubled? Given 𝐵𝐻 = 3.2 × 10−4 𝑇
12. A long straight conductor carries a current of 50 A. An electron moving at 107 m s −1
is 5 cm from the conductor. Find the force acting on the electron if its velocity is
directed towards the wire.
13. In a plane electromagnetic wave, the electric field oscillates sinusoidally at a
frequency of 2 × 1010 Hz and amplitude 48 V m−1 . (a) Find the amplitude of the
oscillating magnetic field. (b) Find the wavelength of the wave. (c) Find the total
average energy density of the electromagnetic field of the wave
14. Compute the value of permittivity of free space if the velocity of electromagnetic
waves in free space is 3 × 108 m s−1 and 𝜇0 = 4𝜋 × 10−7 H m−1 . What will be the
velocity of the wave in a medium with 𝜀𝑟 = 5, 𝜇𝑟 = 2
15. In a series LCR circuit, inductance is 2 H, capacitance is 20 𝜇𝐹 and resistance is 50.
Calculate the (a) frequency at resonance, (b) current drawn from the circuit when
the supply voltage is 100 V and (c) the voltage drop across the capacitor
16. Calculate the thermo emf of a silver – iron thermocouple whose junction
temperatures are at 0℃ and 80 ℃ if the thermo – electric constants are
𝑎 = −13.31 𝜇𝑉/℃ and 𝑏 = 0.019 𝜇𝑉/℃2 . Also, find the neutral temperature.

17. (a) Why the internal resistance of an ideal voltage source be zero? Explain.
(b) Can the Thevenin’s and Norton’s theorems be applied ac networks also? Justify
