Chairman Danilo Lim of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said that

the department might adapt the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) used by South Korea to effective
address traffic situation in Manila. The said ITS is necessary to deal with traffic and also useful for the
urban planning renewal of Metro Manila. Lim said ““The MMDA is exploring innovative solutions
aimed to reshape the traffic and transportation network, taking into account the cause of traffic in Metro
Manila, home to an estimated daytime population of 15 million,” during the forum held on June 2018
about the use of Intelligent Transportation System towards creating A Smart Mega Manila. He added
that other countries are utilizing intelligent transport system to mitigate traffic congestion in their own
country and It is about time to move forward and employ smart solutions like the Intelligent Traffic
System.
Dr. Kim Wan Jib, director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, presented the Transportation
Operation and Information Service (TOPIS), an integrated traffic management facility that operates and
manages Seoul’s traffic flow. TOPIS uses real-time information that are processed and provided to
traffic facility users and public transportation information managers operating buses, subway trains,
and parking facilities, among others. These data can be used to help map out alternative routes in case
of heavy traffic congestion and road accidents for motorists. Traffic information can also be used by
citizens to know the schedule of arrivals and departures as well as the routes of buses.
ITS is a system in which information and communications technology is applied in the field of
road transportation, including infrastructure, vehicles and users, and in traffic management and
mobility management, as well as for interfaces with other modes of transport. It hopes to improve the
efficiency of transport in a number of situations, such as road transport, traffic management, and
mobility.

Transport management systems, also known as TMS aims to help shippers increase efficiency and cut
transportation costs by allowing them to choose modes and manage transportation orders. While this is
still true today, the latest TMS applications aim to offer comprehensive solutions to deal with the
complexities of global shipping business as well as third party logistics.
The use of transport management systems is largely confined to big shipping and 3PL companies due to
high implementation and maintenance costs, which have deterred most small to mid level shippers.
According to a published reports by Inbound Logistics, only 35% of shippers are currently using TMS
and most of them are large companies. But the picture is changing rapidly. Developers are increasingly
targeting small to mid level shippers who form the bulk of the shippers worldwide. TMS applications
are not only becoming more affordable; they are also incorporating features to provide comprehensive
shipping solutions rather than just the management of transportation. As a result, a growing number of
shipping companies of all sizes as well as 3PL companies are embracing them in unprecedented
numbers.
Transport management systems are continuously evolving to meet the ever-increasing expectations and
demands of users. Each new generation of TMS products is coming with enhanced mobility, improved
usability, new forms of optimization, and better analytics. They are no longer focused only on freight
savings measures; the latest systems are designed to improve delivery capabilities, increase warehouse
efficiencies, reduce inventory, and improve cash flow.

Public transportation provides commuters with a convenient method to reach their destination faster
and cheaper compared with private vehicles. Even sometimes it takes time to reach the destination or
places we want, it is more affordable to commute because the effect of traffic can consume a lot of fuel.
However, this is not always the case for Metro Manila because many Filipinos have a negative
perception of using public transportation. The study of the travel behavior of Metro Manila commuters
and the status of its public transportation sector based on their Metro Manila Public Transport Travel
Survey. Information from the survey was used to implement a multimodal public transportation route
planner for Metro Manila, which is designed to provide commuters with facts about public
transportation. This should change its negative image and backgoround for the people to use the
services provided. The analysis of the publicly distributed General Transit Feed Specification data
provided by the government is discussed.

Transportation Terminal, station, stops, rest areas, and roll-on/roll off Terminals” for approval to
improve facilities in all land transportation terminals. It has been endorsed for plenary deliberation and
the Senate hurdle the scrutiny on public service.
Senator poe said that 79% of domestic travelers in 2016 spent P476 on land transportation. She cited
that long-distance land transportation is very crucial for travellers.
The measure seeks to mandate owners, operators or administrators of land transport terminals to
improve facilities through simple, effective and practical measures. In particular, to provide clean and
sanitary comfort rooms that prohibits the collection of fees for passengers, the installment of one
breastfeeding station per terminal, free internet access, and by providing comfort by maintaining the
cleanliness to be considered as sanctuary for travellers to using land transportation.
“This measure is a win-win proposal. It will improve the experienced of weary Filipino travellers who
use these transport terminals during long trips. It will be an improvement which will be immediately
seen and felt,” Poe added.
