Acropolis & Debate Society

Objectives:
• To provide opportunities to enhance students’ knowledge about
their major subjects through seminars.
• To develop strong intrapersonal relationship among the students.
• To enhance student’s sense of cooperation by engaging them
different cooperative activities like team buildings and museum
visits.
• Provide activities that enhance mental, physical, and spiritual
fitness of the students by participating in the University-wide and
departmental activities like Academic Olympics, Edulympics, and
others.
• To make student responsible in promoting social, environmental,
and economic awareness by joining activities such as STE day, and
night, tree planting, outreach activities and others.
The Constitution of the
University of Baguio Acropolis & Debate Society Society

We the students of the University of Baguio School of Teacher Education majoring in Social Studies, implore
the divine providence as we constitute this organization in our wish to internalize the virtue of scholarship,
camaraderie, and hard work, hereby to institute this constitution for the University of Baguio Acropolis &
Debate Society.

Article I
The Organization’s Name, Symbols and Characters
Section 1: The name of this organization shall be the University of Baguio Acropolis & Debate Society
(UBADS)

Section 2: The emblem of the University of Baguio Acropolis & Debate Society shall have the design of a
golden Greek acropolis, with wreaths around it encircled by interwoven chains. Encircling shall
be the name of the organization and enclosed in a golden badge.

Section 3: The golden ribbon shall bear the motto of the organization
“Semper Ad Meliora” (Always towards greater things)

Section 4: This organization shall serve as the social club and the voice of Social Studies
Majors from the School of Teacher Education including other students of the University of
Baguio who are interested in this field of study or are sympathetic to the student’s interest
in social studies.

Section 5: This organization shall try to inculcate within its members the virtues of scholarship,
patience, honor, camaraderie and hard work, which are necessary virtues of those seeking
to become social scientists and social studies teachers. And in accordance to the motto of
the organization, to improve always and be the best we can be

Section 6: As an organization of School of Teacher Education, the members are expected to help in
the realization of the Missions, and Visions of their respective colleges.

Section 7: As students of the University of Baguio, the members are expected to help in the realization of
the Universities Mission and Vision, obey the Universities rule as stipulated in the student
handbook and in memoranda, and inculcate within themselves the drive to pursue perfection.
Article II
The Organization’s Membership
Section 1: All Social Studies Students from the School of Teacher Education in the
University of Baguio are required to become a member of the organization, and
to past their duties to it. They are therefore required to subject themselves to
the organization.

Section 2: All the students within the University, and even outside it, are allowed to join if
they wished to, provided they pay their dues, and all other fees the leaders of
the organizations might impose and also subject themselves to the principles
and rules of the organization.

Article III
The Organizations Committee and Officers
Section 1: The ruling body shall be known as the officers.

Section 2: The officers shall be constituted of the President, the Vice-President, the
Secretary, the Treasurer, the P.R.O, the Auditor, the Business Manager, and the
representatives of each year level. This officers are to be elected every first general
assembly of the school year.
Section 3: The President is the head of the organization. He is to set meetings, to write and
maintain the records of the organization and to write all other documents vital to
the organization.

Section 4: The Vice President functions as the second in command to the president. He shall
take over decisions about concerns of the organization when the President is not
around. Furthermore he should also contribute to the management of the
organization, writing documents and processing of papers.
Section 5: The Secretary is given responsibility to put into writing the minutes of the
meetings, to write and maintain the records of organization and to write all
other documents vital to the organization.

Section 6: The Treasurer is responsible for the finances of the organization and given
steward of the organization’s treasury.

Section 7: The organization’s fund shall not be released without the consent of the following:
The organizations adviser, the president, the secretary, and the treasurer.
Section 8: The Press Relations Officer or P.R.O’s responsibility is to disseminate information to
the members of the organization, students of STE, and other departments of UB
regarding seminars, workshops and other Acropolis activities.
Section 9: The Business Manager is responsible for the smooth running of the activities of the
organizations procurement of goods needed for the need of the organization.

Section 10: The Year Level Representatives are individuals who would represent their year
levels and be able to bring their queries to meetings. Thus the number of
representatives depends on what year levels are present during that school year.
Section 11: The Organizations faculty adviser shall oversee all the activities of the
organization.

Section 12: The officers shall be elected into office during the first general assembly of each
school year. Each magistrate is to be elected through the attainment of a simple
majority of the votes of the members present during the general assembly.
Section 13: No one can be elected into the office of Absentia.

Section 14: The committee shall promulgate rules and other pronouncement and shall
conduct its meetings according to accepted parliamentary practices and rules.

Article IV
General Assembly and other Provisions

Section 1: The first general assembly shall be during the second Friday after the first day of
school.

Section 2: All other general assembly shall be set by the committee.

Section 3: Amendments to its constitutions shall be made during a general assembly if so


desired. An amendment may only be approved after the attainment of the minimum
votes numbering two-third plus one person of the registered members of the
organization.

This provision shall be strictly enforced. This constitution shall take full effect the
Section 4:
school year after that wherein it is adopted. The Constitution made before this one
shall remain in effect until this school year after that wherein this constitution is
adopted.
This constitution is hereby adopted on the 12th of January. School Year 2017-
2018. In accordance to this constitution, its provision shall take full effect
starting this year.
