1. Why do organizations need managers?

Answer: For me, as what I have learned in senior high school, managers are needed in the organization because
they are the one in charge in POLC or the planning, organizing, leading and controlling their employees in
achieving the goals of his/her department. Managers are also the one who makes decision within its
organization. They are also responsible for the decisions that they make when it comes to business decision
making.

2. Define Leadership and how can you identify a great leader?


Answer: Leadership is the act of leading and inspiring your people or your team to success. I think, to Identify a
great leader, he or she must be the one who doesn’t only boss around and do nothing but also shows how a
certain task is done. A great leader doesn’t command but asks. A great leader is the one who influence and
inspire others to reach their goal.

3. What is entrepreneurship?
Answer: Entrepreneurship is the process of what an entrepreneur do. Entrepreneurship is also creating and
building something that comes from nothing. Entrepreneurship has also the concept of innovation which means
to new or different ways of doing things and it is capable of creating more jobs.

4. What is strategy?
Answer: Strategy is like a game plan for achieving goals. It is the thinking process needed in planning a change or
actions needed to be taken.

5. What are the management functions that comprise the P-O-L-C Framework?
Answer:
 Planning or the process of creating objectives and thinking on what to do before taking an
action.
 Organizing or the arranging of an organization’s structure and coordinating its methods in
managing a business and use of resources to achieve its goal.
 Leading or the directing and influencing task related activities of organization members.
 Controlling or the process of monitoring actual organization activities to see that they are doing
the activities that are already planned and correcting errors or flaws.

6. Explain what “triple bottom line” is.


Answer: According to investopedia, Triple bottom line measures the financial, social and
environmental performance of a company over time. It says that in business making we should not
only consider in making a profit but also consider social and environmental factors.
For example, consider a clothing manufacturing company, its best way to maximize profit is to hire the least
expensive labor possible and to dispose of manufacturing waste in the cheapest way possible. These practices
might result in the highest possible profits for the company but in exchange of miserable working and living
conditions for laborers, and damage to the natural environment and the people who live in that environment.
7. Explain the relationship between the extra-role performance and Organizational Citizenship Behaviors
(OCBs).
Answer: The extra-role performance is closely related to OCB or the Organizational Citizenship Behavior
because these two is almost similar in meaning based on Scontrino and Powell Inc., extra role performance is
where behaviors that are not part of the formal job description while OCB is the voluntary behaviors that go
beyond formal duty to help a colleague. For example, staying late to help a coworker

8. Differentiate a team from a group.


Answer: A group is just a collection of individuals that is connected by some activities, interests or quality while
a team is a group of people who share a common goal and a number of challenging goals. Members of the team
are mutually committed to the goals and to each other.

9. What does the acronym SMART refer to? Explain.


Answer:
 Specific – the detail in the information to identify problems or opportunities.
 Measureable – it is impossible to know if an objective has been reached unless it can be measured. For
example, within six months or within a year.
 Actionable – something that you can actually do.
 Realistic – setting your goal not too high.
 Time-bound – Having a deadline for your goals to be achieved.

SMART mnemonic helps as a test which organizations can use to have a marketing plan that will have a good
chance of success.

10. As a student, how can you contribute to the attainment of ASU’s Vision, “Academic Pillar of Excellence
(APEx) for sustainable development.”?
Answer: I can contribute to it by believing to its vision and living its mission, by becoming a well-
trained and skilled individual through the help of this institution.
