CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE

Introduction

Do you think you can live in this world that full of deadlines and stress? It is a big

problem of the people especially the students that they faces right now in this Modern

Generation that said to be the “Happiness Period” but also a “Stress Season” stress that

can be found in Family, Work , Financial and especially in Academic. "Stress is the body's

reaction to any change that requires an adjustment or response (Cleveland,2015). Then, a

stress that relation to education is an academic stress and any sources of these is called

Academic Stressors. As a student, we encounter this stress in every chapter of our life.

There are lots of sources of stress and that's what we aim in this study, to find out

the different causes of stress among Selected Grade 11 GAS (General Academic Strand)

Students of Magsaysay National High School during their Business Expo in

Entrepreneurship Subject. The five of them serve as our respondents. We use Purposive

Probability Sampling method in choosing our respondents. We come up this study because

so many students right now experience stress in schooling and this is one of the most

interested research issues in research industry.

A Qualitative Content Analysis method was used in gathering and analyzing the

data. The limitations of this study is it’s only tackled about the stressor to be dependent in

the Entrepreneurship Subject and the Business Expo in school. And excluding the

discussion on the effect of stress and how to release it. Our materials to be used are the

Voice Recorder and the Questionnaire that serve our guide on interviewing the

respondents. To validate this research paper, we are going to ask permissions from the said

Institution to undergo further discussion and interviews in this study.

This thesis is useful for the people and community specially to the students who

are curious about how having business is a stressful event, This is not intend to show the

bad manifestation of Entrepreneurship subjects but an awareness that we must responsible

in making business both the happy and stress experience from it.

Conceptual Framework

This study aimed to find out the cause of stress in the Entrepreneurship subjects,

specifically during their business expo among the selected respondents.

The diagram below shows the conceptual framework of the study.

Statement of the Problem

The study are focusing on the stressors during the Business Expo in the

Enterpreneurship Subject. Thus, it is intended to address the following questions.

1. What is relationship of Stress and Stressors?

2. How does business expo is one of stressful experience as a students?

3. How this factor correlate with their other subject in both semester?

Initial Hypothesis

1. There will be stressors in the business expo

2. There will be significance similarities of stressors from one respondents to the other

3. There will be significance differences of cause of stress within one respondents to all

other respondents

4. There will be significance stressors that correlated in their other subject

Null Hypothesis

5. There will be no risky stressors to be observe during our interviews

6. There will be no cause of stress that will leads to the student to be drop out in school

Scope and Limitation

We conduct a research paper that strictly observes limitations that will lead

this study become more valuable and less confusable. We conduct this study in only

selected five respondents to scrupulously observe them and interview their ideas and

thoughts that relative in our study. We won’t tackle about the effects of stress and how it will

be release.We are not also going to discuss around on what is `stress. The main goal of

these is to find out the different academic stressors to be dependent in having their

business expo.

Since there are a lot of academic stressors that may leads students in stressful life,

this study did not include other factors such as socio-economic factors, environmental

factors, cultural factors and any other factors.

Significance of the Study

In considering the cause of academic stress in Entrepreneurship, the researcher

believes that the findings of this study will benefit the following persons:

Administrators. The result of this study will benefit administrators of high schools

because this is concerned with the possible stressors during the Entrepreneurship Business

Expo and how it will contribute to the students.

Entrepreneurship Teachers. From the findings, Entrepreneurship teachers will

benefit from the study because this study will reveal on how business expo are give a

stressful activity in the students. They can find more ways and strategies in making this

events less stressful.

Math Teachers. As a relation in solving the income of a business. Math teachers will

have their strategies in teaching a basic math as long as business math to provide students

a further knowledge in solving income, assets, liabilities and others.

Personal Development Teachers. With correlation in entertaining the costumers.

The Perdev Teachers benefit from the study because this study will sees the students or the

entrepreneur on how are boosted their confidence in communicating with costumers.

English Teachers. As the results, they can get advantage from this study, because

this study also reveal the factors in business expo like making the business plan which the

students used the international language. Thus, they can find solution that the students will

speak in English fluently.

Advisers. They can benefit from this study in knowing what are the difficulties that

been experience off for their advisory and might be help them to have an efficient advice for

their students.

Students. Since this study identifies different entrepreneur stressors , the students

will also be aware that having a business expo is vital in their preparation for college level

and for their business life. Therefore, if they want to succeed in their chosen field, they will

have to overcome their fears and strive hard to encounter this problem.

Parents. They may also benefit from this study since parents have a role to play by

supporting their children financially in their studies. And it will lead them to find a appropriate

ways of rising the self confidence of their children.

Researchers. This study may be used by researchers in coming up with something

that can contribute in the field of education especially in teaching and learning about the

World of business. They may also pursue the researcher’s recommended topics for further

study.

Researchee. This might been added to knowledge of the researchee and can help

to determined what are the problem that arises in our community nowadays. So they can

more effective researchee in their entire life.

School. They might benefit off for the problem that arises in school and they can

make a ways to provide students a better offering of knowledge and can give silver lining to

their respective students.

Community. They can benefit from this study because it shows how does a

entrepreneur is a stressful job. And community will have an understanding the sacrifices of

businessman in delivering the wants and aspires of costumers.

Definition of Terms

The researcher provides meaning of the terms that are used throughout the study in

order to have a better and clearer understanding of the study. These terms are defined

conceptually and operationally;

Stress - Stress is the body's reaction to any change that requires an adjustment or

response. The body reacts to these changes with physical, mental, and emotional

responses. Stress is a normal part of life. You can experience stress from your environment,

your body, and your thoughts. Even positive life changes such as a promotion, a mortgage,

or the birth of a child produce stress.

Stressor - Stressors are demands made by the internal or external environment

that upset balance, thus affecting physical and psychological well-being and requiring action

to restore balance

Entrepreneurship - It introduces the learners to the key concepts and underlying

principles of entrepreneurship while understanding and developing the core competencies

required of an entrepreneur. It is also seeks to uncover the innate entrepreneurial abilities of

the learners and hone their skills and good judgment in finding opportunities amidst crises

and turn them into profitable entrepreneurial ventures. (Dr. Eduardo A. Morato, Jr., 2016)

- it is the main subjects of Grade 11 GAS who we are excited to focus on it’s

academic stressors.

Business Expo- it is an exhibition of business where the Entrepreneur are

displaying their products and showing their marketing strategies.

CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter presents literature and studies that will help in the analysis and will

shed light to the stressors of entrepreneurs in entrepreneurship and how these will

correlated in the other subjects.

These related literature and studies are taken from both local and foreign studies.

Related Literature

"What is GAS?"

The General Academic Strand is a track that provides a basic topics that used as a

general for all other tracks. It deals with the Science, Mathematics, English, Filipino, Value

Education, Arts, Physical education and others. According to Henry Motte-Munoz, 2018 the

General Academic Strand is great for students who are still undecided on which track to

take. You can choose electives from the different academic strands under this track. These

subjects include Humanities, Social Sciences, Applied Economics, Organization and

Management, and Disaster Preparedness.

This GAS is applicable for the students that still confused on what might they

undergoes tracks in their college degree. Thus these GAS help to advice them. According to

Isagani Cruz, 2017, General Academic Strand is for learners who are not yet decided on

what course to take in college. It is possible that the learner will be given bridging courses to

assess his/her preparedness for the field of study he/she will choose in the future. General

Academic Strand will present the option for students to take their electives from specialized

subjects of any other strands.

"Why General Academic Strand was Implemented?"

There are many students entering college that they do not know what they really

want to major in. So they transfer from one course to another. And the general academic

strand wants to correct these anomalies. This is a way for those undecided students when

they pursue college.

Pursuing college is not as easy as high school & elementary. It requires you to

exert more effort and time, and most of all, it needs a lot of money comparing to your junior

and senior high. So if you will not really sure with your course or major when you’re in

college, it will just WASTE EVERYTHING, your time, effort, money and of course the desire

of your parents for you to have a better life. That’s why as what the k12 implement these

strand, it provide a better understanding not just by the specific fields but as general fields in

choosing major in college degree. According to Isagani Cruz, 2017,. “That’s why as they

implement the k12. There is a strand that can help you to decide correctly when you’re

undecided in your course as you pursue college, and that is the GAS or the General

Academic Strand”.

Entrepreneurship as the subject in this strand?

While the other strands are career-specific, the General Academic Strand is great for

students who are still undecided on which track to take. You can choose electives from the

different academic strands under this track. These subjects include Humanities, Social

Sciences, Applied Economics, Organization and Management, and Disaster Preparedness.

As what the aim of these study, we are only focused on the Entrepreneurship

Subjects. Where it is part of Applied Economics that discuss basic economic problems of

the country; analyze market structures; and study strategies to minimize negative impact

and maximize positive impact of businesses in the community.

Entrepreneurship Subjects is a subjects that provides a understanding the world of

business that aims the students to be more effective entrepreneurs. According to Dr.

Eduardo A. Morato, Jr., 2016, It introduces the learners to the key concepts and underlying

principles of entrepreneurship while understanding and developing the core competencies

required of an entrepreneur. It is also seeks to uncover the innate entrepreneurial abilities of

the learners and hone their skills and good judgment in finding opportunities a midst crises

and turn them into profitable entrepreneurial ventures.

Correlated topics of this subject

This subjects also tackle about the Mathematics that gives advantage to the students

in further solving the income, assets and liabilities. Because the entrepreneurs students are

more often to become a effective manager in their future world of business. According to

Partha Gharami, 2018, Mathematics form two important branches of math in today’s worl

and these direct application of mathematics to business and economics. Examples of

applied maths such as probability theory and management science, linear programming all

are vital maths for business

Personal development. It is correlated in boosting self confidence of entrepreneurs

students thus they learned on how to entertain a costumers thus escaping the shy moment

in your business. According to the LM Personal Development, Self-confidence is manifested

in speech, appearance, dressing, gait and physical condition. To develop it, you need to

learn yourself and your capabilities, gain positive attitude and believe that by performing

right actions and achieving right goals you will certainly reach success.

Determination is also factors that has relation to entrepreneurship because it defined

the determination in business that lead to become success. We can possibly focused on

how to success in certain goals. According to LM Personal Development , Determination will

allows person to focus on achieving a specific goal without being distracted by less

important things or spontaneous desires. It may be developed with the help of self-discipline

exercise. Self- Discipline also used as matter to become more united in your colleagues.

Writing a business description in international language is also factors that correlated

in this subjects. English provide a better teaching the grammars and how will the

entrepreneurs becomes English speakers fluently. But for us. It is depend on how the

Entrepreneurship Teachers used the a appropriate languages.

Business Expo as part of Entrepreneurship

Business Expo is relating to a exhibition that shows all about business, we can see the

different products of entrepreneurs and how they make their strategies as an edges from

their competitor. It helps boost our understanding the Entrepreneurship and dealing us to

become effective business man in the future. According to Sheryl Paulo, 2019, business

expo in grade 11 is just an activity that provides the teachers for immersion of their students

to know what most knowledge in learning in Entrepreneurship. But in G12, the business

expo is one of the curriculum guide that gives advantage for further understanding the

Entrepreneurship, the values , principles, deficit and success itself. The best goal of this

expo is to practiced our entrepreneur and engaging them to the world of work.

"What is Stress?"

Stress is a commonly problem in our society. It is deal with the hardness, feeling

depressed and feeling confused in a certain problem or events. According to Cleaveland,

2015, Stress is the body's reaction to any change that requires an adjustment or response.

The body reacts to these changes with physical, mental, and emotional responses. Stress is

a normal part of life. You can experience stress from your environment, your body, and your

thoughts.

Stress is primarily a physical response. When stressed, the body thinks it is under

attack and switches to ‘fight or flight’ mode, were a person that stress can find a way to

escape the stress experience nor to face it with strength to overcome. According to Stress

Management Society, 2017 there are two mode:

Fight Mode - When your body goes into a state of stress, we may feel agitated and

aggressive towards others; this can be due to our bodies’ natural reaction being “fight”. This

can be a helpful reaction to ward off predators, but in unnecessary situations, it can

negatively affect relationships and ruin reputations.

Flight Mode - Some of us avoid our stressors, removing ourselves from the

situation instead of tackling it. This can be a sign of the “flight” survival instinct; a function

that can save our lives if we find ourselves in dangerous surroundings. However, in

everyday life, this natural instinct can lead to a stressful situation escalating, and increase

our stress levels when we realize that the stressor isn’t going away and we need to face it.

"What is Stressors?"

The any events, factors, reason or other matters that can lead to stress is called

stressors. According to Sonata Green, 2018, stressor is a chemical or biological agent,

environmental condition, external stimulus or an event that causes stress to an organism.

Psychologically speaking, a stressor can be events or environments that an individual would

consider demanding, challenging, and or threaten the individual's safety.

As consolidated by Doc. Zilla, 2018, stressor is any event, experience, or

environmental stimulus that causes stress in an individual. These events or experiences are

perceived as threats or challenges to the individual and can be either physical or

psychological. Researchers have found that stressors can make individuals more prone to

both physical and psychological problems, including heart disease and anxiety.

The stressors that might be experience during business Expo

Start up money. We can experience stress in finding our start-up capital to start

our business, it is a big problem in all aspect of Entrepreneurship because capital is play a

vital role in business, you cannot have business if you start without a start. According to Riz

Virk, 2018, The thing that makes start-ups hard, and that cause of stress, is the

unpredictability of the start up. There are entrepreneurs that have started business without

predicting the result or lacking to setting a goal for business, thus many are stressed on

what might the result of there business. He also said that “ there are usually factors beyond

your control that may often result in success or failure of your start up”. Many of the

Entrepreneurs Students are could not control or find their start up because of lacking

support from parents. It is also the reason of stress in Start-up.

Business Plan. Making a plan before entering a business is a big chance to

achieve viability but it is also a cause of stress in a entrepreneurs students. It is provide you

stress on your mind and your perception on how you will make edges from your

competitors. You can feel stress if you don’t know what is business all about. As a students,

we are not well-known of this, so we got stress in making our business. According to

NiBusiness Info.co.UK, insufficient knowledge is business making you feel that your skills

are being underused.

Poor time management. It is also stressful factors in entrepreneurs. During your

oral defense, you cannot answer directly the panel if you are not well practiced and you

have no time to practiced. It is also a big loss in a entrepreneurs in successing their

business. According to Anna Windermere, 2019, Poor time-management skills are also a

psychological cause of stress that directly affects the mental and physical well-being of the

worker, which can lead to other conflicts for that individual within the workplace, such as

negative moods and loss of productivity. It also may result for losing business.

Entertaining Costumers. Communication with your costumers bring a success to

your business. Entrepreneurs may might encounter a poor communication skills and lacking

of confidence in facing people. According to Kristen Wells, 2017, low employee morale is

felt by costumers during their interactions and creates a negative experience. It is very

stressful when you and yourself could not entertain a costumers because of lack of

confidence, it will lead a failure to you business. Other reason is other costumers is such a

barriers of communication.

Product to be sell. Entrepreneurs may encounter stress in selecting product to be

sale it because aside of the availability of products, the entrepreneurs are not consideribg

the product the saleable and suit to costumers. According to Alaa Hassan, 2017, finding a

appropriate products is very difficult for start-uppers because you are confused on finding a

product unless you decide to manufacture your own. For other entrepreneurs choose to sell

their own manufactured products but first, they must know the background of the setting of

their business.

Cooperation to your partners. Business man also felt stress when one of you co-

workers showing a bad behavior or not cooperating with you. According to Monica Torres,

2018, Those petty feuds and disagreements with co-workers take a toll on your minds and

bodies. It is a big lost if your colleagues are not united on how you manage your business

nor they are traitor to you.

Competitive competitors. It is also a problem of a entrepreneurs when your

competitors are too competitive and make you feel stress in making a solution or edges

from them. According to Cheryl Conner, 2013, It is a battle of perception, focus, and

marketing thus you feel stress in competition. Where competitors measures their creativity

to win the fight of the entrepreneurship.

Deficit results. It is stressful in entrepreneur that experienced the failure in

business or a deficit results in business. Like a person who have cancer and it hard them to

recover unless they wanted. But for Entrepreneur, it is a big loosing of opportunity in their

life, other are commit suicide. According to Angelica Damas, 2019, It is stressful in deficit

result because your start-up capital will not return and it is a big amount of assets that going

to lost.

Background of Study

Undoubtedly, Academic Stress has become the most reported issues in our

society. It's been the third school year since the Senior High School was implemented in

Magsaysay National High School, but there are still confusions about why it does bring

more stress in our high school life?. This question awakens our mind and leads us to come

up this study.

CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research design, locale of the study, respondents of the

study, sampling procedure, research instruments, methods of data gathering, method of

data analysis and and the validity of the study.

Research Design

The researcher used Content Analysis research design. This design shows three

distinct approaches: conventional, directed, or summative. All approaches are used to

interpret meaning from the content. The gathered data from our respondents are

scrupulously and precautionary interpret; the deep meaning, the thoughts and ideas as long

as their experiences. This will proven anything with the researcher’s prediction tighten with

an evidences.

Locale of the Study

The study was conducted at Magsaysay National High School located in Barangay

Poblacion, Magsaysay, Lanaodel Norte. This school was formerly known as Magsaysay

Barangay High School.

At present, the school is headed by Mrs. Marichu A. Licanda. It has four year levels

in junior high school and two year level in senior high school.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of this study were the grade 11 GAS students of Magsaysay

National High School who were officially enrolled in the School Year 2018-2019.

Accordingly, 40 plus students were enrolled. At this time, we are choose five students that

are with honors or up. These students were taking almost one year in schooling to

pursue college level. They must well prepared for the business world and how it will be

happy nor stress.

Sampling Procedure

The sampling that we use in this research paper is the Purposive Non-probability

Sampling which it is selected based on characteristics of a population and the objective of

the study.

To ensure the objectivity and the values of the respondents that appropriate to the

study, we are going to get their average grades and we choose only the students who are

with honors or up. According to researchers that the students have these grades are more

often expose to stress and that’s what we aim and purpose to do.

Methods of Data Gathering

The researcher asked permission from the institution of Magsaysay National High

School to us in gathering our data.

The next step was to let the respondents answer the survey questionnaire that

identifies the cause of stress during their business expo. The data might also be

revealed the stressors that are correlated in the other subject.

Research Instruments

The researcher used the following instruments in obtaining the desired data:

1. Questionnaire. First part is the Student’s Profile where we are used as guide in

further interpreting their answers. Second part is a modified questionnaire to suit

the information needed in the study. These provides the information regarding

on the cause of stress in the entrepreneurship business expo. It is contains 10

questions and every questions are provided choices to be choose as their

answer.

2. Voice Recorder. This was used to record precise thoughts and idea from the

respondents.

Method of Data Analysis

Since this is a qualitative research and more often using word and predictions to the

thoughts and ideas that dependently from the respondents. The data will be analyze from

it’s deep idea and thoroughly interpret it, as what we can predict and understand. We can

use some tables for extra explanations to the gathered data. The first part of questionnaire

will not be interpret because it is used to interpret the second part of questionnaire.

Validity

In order to validate and check reliability of this study we use a voice recording on

capturing the exact data from our respondents. We are also use a letter to request a

permission to do our research from the Institution of Magsaysay National High School. And

to strengthen the interpretation, we are helped by our research adviser that can understand

the language used by the respondents, to analyze and interpret our gather data.

CHAPTER IV

PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

This chapter presents, analyzes, and interprets the data concerning the stressors

that we can get in Business Expo. It also discuss the correlation topics to their other

subjects.

Problem Number 1. What is relationship between Stress and Stressors?

Stress is related to the discomfort of the person where it takes to fight or flight a

certain stress. People with stress can find away to fight their stress and other might escape

for these experience. The relationship of Stress in Stressors, anything events, factors, and

other matter that can cause stress is called stressors. STRESS is tighted in Entrepreneur.

According to our findings, many of them are stress in having their business where they are

shares their cause of stress in certain events in entrepreneurship.

Problem Number 2. How does business expo is one of stressful experience as a

students?

In our further findings. We use a questionnaire that are modified to find their

thoughts on how having business is a stressful experience. The following questions are the

questions in questionnaire where it is corresponds a choices that represents their answers.

event. According to our findings, these respondent is a lack of confidence in facing people.

Other reason are she is a transferee in that school thus she feel shy to entertain her

costumers.

encounters a lack of grammar and can’t speak fluently nor slightly.

Problem Number 3. How this factor correlate with their other subject in both

semester?

In our findings, we find that many of this stressors are correlated in other subject,

Entrepreneurship is compose of many subjects to become more efficient subject. This

compose of Personal Development, Business Math and even English.

Personal Development

It deals to the entrepreneur in boosting their self confidence in entertaining their

costumers. It is also correlated on how is your determination in managing your business.

English

It helps the business man to be a good communicator and not a barrier of

communication, where this subject correlate the entrepreneur a good accents, and how to

an entertainer and a good salestalk. It is also deals with the grammar in making own

business description like in leaflets, bullitien, and other posters.

Business Math

It is a big contribution in the entrepreneurship because it teach the business man

on how to compute their assets, incomes, liabilities and also in making journal. Not only

that, it helps on how we use the marketing strategies to fulfill our business in success.

This subjects is must needed in both entrepreneurship because it is correlated

on how to become successful business math and a successful business in the future.

CHAPTER V

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents the summary, conclusion, final hypothesis and

recommendations of the study based on the data presented.

Summary

The objective of this study was to find out the relationship was to find the different

causes of stress in having a business expo.

The content- analysis design was employed in this study. For data gathering, the

main tools used were: questionnaire; part 1 and 2. The respondents consisted of 5 Grade

11 GAS Student of Magsaysay National high School, Magsaysay, Lanao del Norte.

Findings and Conclusion

The following are the findings as revealed in this study:

1. It is a little difficult in making business plan. Most of the respondents are agreed.

2. Most of the respondents are stress during the oral defense because they are not well-

practiced in this events

3. Some of the respondents are not too much stress during business expo because they

are already experienced it. Some are get stressful because they don’t know what is

business all about.

4. They feel stress in looking their start-up capital because their teammates are not

cooperating with them.

5. Most of respondents are feel stress in choosing the product to be sell because they

don’t know what are the suit and saleable for their costumers.

6. Most of the respondents are confident a business man , thus they don’t fee stress in

entertaining their costumers.

7. Most of the respondents are stress in computing their income because they are

oblivious, thus they lost the list of the inventory.

8. Most of the respondents are feel stress in having a cooperation with their colleagues

because they are not united on managing on it.

9. They feel stress in deficit result of their business because they are guilty in loosing their

start-up capital.

10. Some of the respondents are feel stress in the competition because they don’t know

how to make edges from their competitors. Some of them are feel stress in reason that

their competitors are too competitive.

Recommendations

1. Teachers are recommend to teach their students by full of endeavor an love of it.

2. Teachers must have own strategies in teaching students thus, they will become a

successful ones

3. Parents must practiced their child in having a determination in their studying also in

their life.

4. Parents must support their children in any activity that their child want to take.

5. Parents must guide their child on boosting their self confidence

6. Students must builds their self confidence and self determination not only in the

business industry but on how to become success in their life.

7. Students must have their time management in order to become well-practiced during

taking any events or activity.

8. Community must have their consideration on how the entrepreneur are so stressful thus

will prevent any bullying to them.

9. Entrepreneurs must remember that the costumers is always right.

10. Costumers must considered the business man on how they manage their product and

their business.
