Welcome!

You are invited to analyze the scenario below and determine from the requests what actions you
should take using your knowledge of Project Management and ability to analyze and make an informed
decision.
All that you need to perform the activities can be found in the material and the PMBOK® Guide ― Sixth Edition,
but if you need further clarity, please feel free to reach out to trainers for guidance.
The times documented below are recommendations and should be suggestions of the level of detail expected.
You cannot assume you have enough information to do these assignments as in a real project, but you should
be able to provide enough information to show that you understand what is being discussed, why it’s important,
and what action you would take to control your Project.
The data provided is general, but specific. They should be hints as to what you need to consider. If they don’t
make sense, you have two options – use them anyway or ask for clarification. You may want to revise numbers
or add specific details. You can do this, much like you would do this on any project. However, if you modify the
scenario, it must be reasonable and realistic, and it must be wholly integrated into the project. Remember – all
aspects of the project must either support the project success and/or minimize failure, and you will need to justify
that to ensure a successful outcome.

Situation: You are part of a software services organization. A new project has been initiated by your sponsor,
and you are now authorized as a project manager. The project involves developing a telecommunication
application that supports billing. The external customer is the end user to whom you will deliver the application.
As part of the planning, you must analyze quality-related requirements and considerations. The application
shouldn’t have more than five defects. Earned Value specifications require the SPI and CPI to be 1+/-10%
throughout.
1. From the planning perspective, develop the following:
a. Subsidiary management plan, which is the output of the Plan Quality Management process
b. Project document, which is an output of plan quality management process - 30 minutes The
development team develops the application and hands it over to the testing team. The testing team
detects defects by Monitoring and Controlling the application. The defects are an outcome of lack of
requirement understanding, inadequate developer skills, incomplete code coverage of unit test cases, and
lack of good application design—the software architecture. The team uses different tools to find the
measurements and causes of the defects.

2. Name the data representation tools that are used in the Control Quality Process and briefly describe them - 30
minutes.
3. For the required SPI measurement, draw the control chart. Here, the specification limits are +/- 20% - 10
minutes. The testing team reports the following defects against each category:
Category

Category Defect S

Requirement Understanding 22

Skill 35

Unit Testing 42

Architechting 12

4. For the above table, plot the 80/20 rule chart - 15 minutes.
5. The Development team recommends corrective actions and raises a change request. CCB approves it, and
the team implements the corrective actions. The testing team does not find any defect during the control quality
process. What is the main output of this process that will enable them to close the project? Write the flow from
control quality to close project processes - 15 minutes.
