FIRE SAFETY AND FIRE RESPONSE


TRAINING

PROGRAM DURATION - Two (2) days

PROGRAM LOCATION - Petrotrin Fire Training Ground – West Area

TARGET GROUP
This training program has been developed for Refining & Marketing (R&M) employees who are
assigned to Maintenance, Process, Design, Inspections, Refining Laboratory Operations, etc. This
program is designed to equip participants with knowledge of and training on how they should respond
to emergency situations in the workplace. Topics will cover:
 Incipient stage fire-fighting – including:
 Simple Combustion Processes,
 Fire Extinction and
 Effective use of Portable Fire Extinguishers.
 Operational use of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and
 First Aid Treatment to injured persons.

COURSE OBJECTIVE
This training satisfies the requirements under the OSH Act Part 7 115(2). On completion of this course,
participants should be able to:

1. Explain the process of simple combustion and fire extinction.


2. Understand the classification of fires.
3. Recognize the importance of proper housekeeping as a means of preventing unwanted fires and
other incidents.
4. Understand the role of incipient emergency responder employees in cases of fires and other
emergencies.
5. Demonstrate individual awareness of evacuation procedures, including their role of first
responders during emergencies, the identification of and effective use of Fire Extinguishers in
situations where First Aid Response Apparatus can be safely and effectively put to use.
6. Administer emergency First Aid treatment to injured persons.
7. Demonstrate competence in the operational procedures for donning and doffing SCBA sets
8. Understand and appreciate the importance of SCBA control procedures
9. Effectively respond to and carry out their required first responder tasks in hostile and
irrespirable atmospheres
10. Clean, sanitize and make ready for re-use respiratory protective equipment (SCBA)

Types of Wounds and their Treatment, Bleeding Control Measures,
Treatment for Electric Shock

Principles of Combustion, Classification of Fires, Fire Extinguishing
Media and Methods of Fire Extinction

MID-MORNING BREAK

1015 – 1200 Practical Exercise - Use of portable Fire Extinguishers to Extinguish

measures

Introduction to and use of Conventional Hose Lines and Branch-pipes /
