La Marca Prosecco
Using fresh organic rose petals (they must be free of pesticides) that have been washed, heat 1/2
cup of water and 1 cup of sugar over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the sugar has
dissolved. Add the washed petals of 3 roses, turn the heat down to low, and let the mixture
simmer (about 15 minutes). Add a tiny drop of pink food coloring, if desired. Remove from heat
and let cool before straining the mixture through a fine sieve. Pour into a jar (makes enough for
3-4 cocktails).Fill the bottom of a glass with 2 ounces homemade rose syrup. Top with 6 ounces
of Prosecco, and edible flowers. To get a color blocked look, like the one in the photos, pour the
Prosecco into the campaign flute so that it falls gently down the side of the flute - that way it
won’t disrupt the syrup.

caffeinated coffee and an extra kick of whiskey are just what you’ll want after a
massive meal.

Brandy Alexander
This creamy, cognac driven cocktail fits two post dinner criteria. It’s an alcohol
filled cocktail with desert-like chocolate flavor.

1 ounce Fresh Cream

Add everything to a shaker, shake and strain the drink into a cocktail glass. Top
with grated nutmeg and drink up.

de Cacao and crème de menthe are the perfect mix to sip on after dinner.
Ingredients:
Preparations:
Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice. After a brisk shake, strain the drink into
a cocktail glass and enjoy.
White Russian
Made famous by Jeffrey Lebowski in the 1998 film The Big Lebowski, the White
Russian is similar to the mudslide, but it contains Irish cream and heavy cream
instead of Kahlua.
Ingredients:
Preparation:
Pour Kahlua and vodka into an Old Fashioned glass filled with ice. Add Fresh
cream to the top and slowly stir the contents together.
Digestif Spirits
Brandy – Brandy is fairly high in alcohol (usually 80-120 proof) so it’s best to
imbibe it in very small quantities. After dinner, brandy fans sip the spirit, made
from the wine distillation process. Sometimes brandy is aged in casks, similar to
whisky. The most famous brandies are Armagnac and Cognac.
Eau De Vie – Eau De Vie is a popular after dinner drink. Technically a brandy,
it’s un-aged and fruity in flavor. The main difference between brandy is that Eau
De Vie doesn’t contain grapes, but it made with different fruits. Popular varieties
include: Schnapps, Calvados and fruit brandy.
Grappa – Grappa is made from pomace (the leftover grape pulp and skin from
the winemaking process). Its alcohol content ranges from 70-120 proof. Although
the drink has roots in ancient times, its contemporary history can be traced to
northern Italy in the late 1970s. It has imbibed throughout the Mediterranean and
all over the world.
Fortified Wine – The reason these spirits are called “fortified wine” is because
they are a wines that have a spirit added to them (usually a variation of brandy).
Popular varieties include: vermouth, port, sherry, Madeira, marsala and
commandaria.

Digestifs come in a rainbow of flavors and colors, but they’re all intended to do one thing: help
you digest, and possibly find an excuse to take another small nip (vital around the holidays).
Unlike apertifs, which are often more acidic, bitter, or bracing to whet the appetite, digestifs tend
to incorporate depth, spice, herbs, bitterness, and sweetness. Aperitifs are also usually lower
alcohol, while digestifs can be higher alcohol since, theoretically, you’ll be sipping less, and
sweet mercy the day is done.
Not every digestif will appeal universally, so we collected a motley crew of after-dinner drink
possibilities. Some of them are bartender favorites, the type of thing your favorite intimidating
mixologist likes to knock back after a long shift. And some are the kinds of spirits you’d expect
to see in the large snifter of an important business tycoon after a long day of tycooning. But
they’re all equally up for regular-people-grabs. It’s just a matter of price point (they vary pretty
drastically) and your own particular tastes. So read on, eat on, and take a sip.

CHARTREUSE
Yep, the famous 130 herbs, plants, and flowers French liqueur made by Carthusian monks in the
Chartreuse Mountains of Grenoble, France. Enough romance in the story alone to relax you after
dinner, but the liqueur—especially the green—has a hypnotically complex mix of floral, herbal,
spicy, and even vegetal flavors. It’s around $55, but at 55% ABV, you just need a little sip to feel
blessed.
UNDERBERG
A lot like Fernet, but German, and then there’s the Barbie’s Playhouse size of the bottles, which
can (yes) be worn as a belt. But the central magic of Underberg is its power—and it packs it.
Aged in Slovenian oak, it’s hyper-herbaceous and anise-y (with herbs sourced from 43
countries), rocketing down with a hot dose of alcohol and alleged notes of “Christmas.” It’ll hit
you hard, but purposefully—for 169 years, a favorite digestif, and hangover relief, in Germany,
where they know how to eat and drink.
Keep these digestifs at the table so you can continue the conversation instead of collapsing
on the couch:

Aquavit
In my family, this Scandinavian spirit is the go-to for “cutting the fat” of holiday meals. The
dominant spice in aquavit is caraway, giving it a flavor that may remind you of rye bread.
Aquavit frequently contains spices like fennel and cardamom in addition to caraway, all of which
are good for your digestive system.
Chartreuse
You can choose Green or Yellow Chartreuse, but I recommend Green because it's less sweet and
more intense—just the thing to shake you back awake after an indulgent supper. Both varieties of
Chartreuse are made by French monks and are deeply spicy and herbal. Green Chartreuse has
well over 100 types of herbs in it, so I think it’s safe to bet that at least some of them aid
digestion.
Strega
Strega is an Italian herbal liqueur that could be considered a delicate Roman cousin of
Chartreuse. While complexly herbal, it's less intense than Chartreuse. Strega is brilliantly yellow
from saffron, but it also tastes of fennel, mint, anise, cloves, and nutmeg. In short, all sorts of
spices that are good for your stomach.

Cynar
This is a type of Italian Amaro, which is a group of bitter, herbal Italian liqueurs ranging from
caramel-y sweet (like Averna Amaro) to viciously bitter and menthol-y (like Fernet Branca).
Cynar is on the intense side, but not insurmountably so. It has a lightness from herbal flavors and
notes of dark roast coffee on the finish. Artichokes are among the flavoring agents (Cynar does
not, however, taste a thing like artichokes), and artichokes (along with some other types of
thistles that are used in liqueurs) have long been prized as an ingredient in digestive tonics, as
they stimulate bile production and even protect the liver (glory be!).
