Self Portrait

Over the course of my time in high school, I have changed as a writer, reader, and learner

from a combination of self-driven improvement, help from past and present teachers, and various

opinions from my peers.

My writing is, in my opinion, one of my strongest skills. When I become passionate

about a subject, I can write an extremely influential essay. Although it is easier to discuss

something, especially because the tone of one’s voice can be more easily understood than the

tone of words, I can convey my opinions and feelings through writing almost just as well as I can

in a discussion. For example, in one of my English classes, I was assigned a poem on an issue in

the world I was strongly against or was strongly affected by. One I found to be completely

devastating was that there are women in the world that were punished, tortured, or killed for

being raped; as if it was their fault! I ended up doing both a poem and an essay on this subject,

and is still something I find to be an extremely devastating subject.

As a reader, I consider myself to be very philosophical. I become deeply interested in the

morals shown in any piece of writing, and question how these morals apply to modern society, or

if I can compare the ways society has changed. I often think about the book, ​Frankenstein​, by

Mary Shelley, quite often. The Creature in the book can be representative of a multitude of

people and subjects in society, and I often apply the themes of the book to modern topics. Books,

to me, have always taught me life lessons, whether I enjoy the book or not, I always thoroughly

enjoy the lesson.

My learning has not changed over the years; I have consistently been a visual, auditory,

and tactile learner with no problems with either. I simply adjust to which style the teacher applies

the most and go from there. The variety of teaching styles from my teachers have made me much

more versatile, and I’m happy to have that ability. In addition, I’ve created my own personal

styles on my own work because of these teachers various styles.

At this time, I would consider myself to be a very flexible, passionate, and hardworking

reader, writer, and learner.
