About the Inquiry
In 1995, the then Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (now the Australian
Human Rights Commission) was requested to conduct a National Inquiry into the separation
of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families. This Inquiry highlighted a
number of issues significant to the study of Australian history.
