increasingly popular, and the KODIAQ is therefore likely to be a success, too.

4.1 Meet the KODIAQ

The KODIAQ is opening the door for ŠKODA to enter a new segment.
The great interest aroused by the VisionS concept car and the
more‑than-positive response that the car received from the media
during the world premiere in Berlin clearly showed that the trust placed
in the KODIAQ's potential is built on solid foundations. After all, you are
welcome to make your own opinion.

KODIAQ IS IMPRESSIVE
Hard muscled onone hand and elegant on the other. Radiates a strong personality, but does not look excessively
aggressive. For more details about the car's design see Chapter 4.2 Design.

KODIAQ BOASTS EXCELLENT ON-ROAD SKILLS

High agility and comfort were highlighted by the media already at the stage of disguised-prototype rides. What exactly
are the reasons why the reviews of the KODIAQ's driving properties are so good? Read more in 4.7 Body and chassis
and 4.6 Engines and gearboxes.

KODIAQ DELIVERS ROBUST OFF-ROAD CAPABILITIES

Boasting excellent outdoor capabilities, the KODIAQ is not afraid to leave the city limits. For more details about
the car's off-road skills see Chapters 4.7.4 Chassis protection, 4.7.5 Four-wheel drive and 4.7.6 Off-road mode.

KODIAQ IS A GREAT FAMILY CAR

Roominess, smart solutions and a high degree of safety. These are strong arguments for any family. More information
in Chapters 4.5 Safety, 4.3 Interior and 4.4 Equipment.

KODIAQ CAN BE A WORK TOOL AS WELL AS A STATUS SYMBOL

With our variable portfolio of accessories and extras, every vehicle can be tailored to meet the customer's needs and
preferences. The KODIAQ may be an office on wheels for a successful manager, including a leather interior and top-end
connectivity, as well as a car configured for heavy-duty off-road use. More details in Chapter 4.4 Equipment.

KODIAQ IN THE ŠKODA FAMILY

What is the position of the new arrival in the hierarchy of ŠKODA models? The KODIAQ is our top-end model
in the SUV class.

4.2 Design

The KODIAQ is the first series production vehicle to present Stage 2 of ŠKODA's design language – the first “sample”
of shapes and lines to be featured by our biggest SUV was offered by the VisionS (concept car). The KODIAQ takes
the typical attributes of our latest models, including inspiration drawn from the Czech glass-making industry and
cubism, to a new direction. Its lines are powerful, yet highly elegant, and the vehicle radiates self-confidence without
looking arrogant.

Although a typical ŠKODA at first sight, the KODIAQ features a great deal of design independence. The key motif, double
edges and lines straightened in a unique fashion, is most apparent on the wheel arches. The “cut” wheel-arch edge
known e.g. from the Superb has become even more prominent, and is accompanied by the line of the plastic strip.

Also apparent is inspiration from Czech history – the integrated taillights refer to Czech cubism and the art of
glass‑cutting more than in any of the previous product lines. Generally, the KODIAQ features the boldest 3D shapes
of all ŠKODA models so far.

The morphology of the new arrival was presented by the VisionS

(concept car).

The KODIAQ was officially presented

in Paris on two occasions in 2016 – as
a disguised prototype at the Tour de
France in July and completely unveiled
at the Mondial de l'Automobile in
the autumn.

disguised KODIAQ prototypes, and their
response was highly positive.

1. Typically ŠKODA-shaped radiator grille with double vertical slats.

2. A true ŠKODA again: the winged-arrow logo is sitting on the elongated part of the bonnet. The whole bonnet
features bold 3D shapes.
3. Two pairs of headlamps are one of the “trademarks” of ŠKODA KODIAQ.
4. The air intake grille extends deep to the side to make the vehicle look wider and add an extra impression of power.
5. The lower the fog lamps are placed, the more vulnerable they are in off-road conditions. Their relocation from the air
intake grille to the radiator grille level gives a clear signal: the KODIAQ is ready for off-road challenges!
6. The combination of sharp edges and smooth surfaces on the sides gives the car a hard-muscled profile.

1. The key contributing factors behind the KODIAQ's ample roominess include, among others, the passenger
compartment moved forward…
2. … and the vehicle's long wheelbase.
3. Although the roofline falls down dynamically, the car still offers more than enough space for passengers' heads.
4. Compared with the competitors, the size of the side windows is really generous. As a result, the car offers unrivalled
outward vision from the 3rd row of seats.
5. The double-line solution was also employed in shaping the wheel arch/edge strip combination. The wheel arches are
now more square. The wheel arch edge is part of the protective plastic strip that stretches around the whole bottom
of the vehicle.
6. The portfolio of lightweight alloy wheels comprises 8 designs (sizes: 17", 18" and 19").

5 2

1. The integrated taillights feature a crystal-inspired structure and the typical ŠKODA “C”.
2. The robust plastic bumper is one of the details through which the KODIAQ shows that it feels at home not only
on city roads.
3. The hidden exhaust tip is a symbol of pure design, as well as of environmental friendliness. Another typical
ŠKODA detail.
4. The plastic strip with a honeycomb motif makes the tailgate surface look “lighter” while playing an important
practical role: as part of the bottom edge of the boot, it protects the bumper from possible luggage-caused dents
and scratches.
5. The plastic strip protects the doors when the vehicle is in motion, as well as when it is stationary, creating a barrier
between the metal part and stones flying off the road. Moreover, by overlapping the door profile, it mitigates
the consequences of careless getting out of the car; an effective solution, especially in combination with the
Door Edge Protection.
6. The roofline flows into an attractive, body-colour spoiler. The black vertical aerodynamic strips stretching along
both sides of the tailgate window are part of the “CO2 package”.

1. At first sight, the dashboard is more solid and its central segment houses the whole infotainment system with
a large display (as much as 9.2" *).
2. The vertical air vents save space while supporting the impression of interior robustness.
3. Pure design and easy-to-reach controls. Exactly how it should be.
4. The top segment of the dashboard on the passenger side is shaped to create a pleasant counterbalance to
the driver-side instrument panel. As a bonus, the decorative panel hides a smart storage compartment.
5. The inspiration drawn from the Czech glass-making industry is apparent also in the interior. The inner door handle
features an elegant, crystal-inspired design.
6. The premium-class atmosphere is underscored by the ambient LED lighting system offering a selection of 10 colours.

safety expected in the SUV class, as well as other benefits typical of ŠKODA vehicles, including high-quality materials,
top‑class workmanship, timeless design, excellent ergonomics and a large number of “Simply Clever” solutions.

in both longitudinal and transverse directions.

4.3.3 Dashboard

Besides the typical horizontal orientation, the dashboard design also features visually highlighted vertical elements,
including, primarily, the ventilation vents and the driver, infotainment and front-seat passenger segments.
The decorative strips are now getting more space than ever before. In higher trim levels the dashboard strip covers the
upper storage compartment at the side of the front-seat passenger. While the section above the strip is always black,
the colour of the bottom section can be either black or beige.

The MIB display has been moved up for better ergonomics (e.g. when controlling the navigation system).
The air‑conditioning controls under the MIB display are part of the smoothly connected centre console with
a distinctive cutout, that also contains a small storage compartment (suitable for e.g. a mobile phone), the gearstick
and driving‑mode and parking‑brake controls concentrated in the gearstick segment.

4.3.5  Steering wheel

For the first time in a ŠKODA, the KODIAQ's steering wheel can be heated (as an option). Well-known from other ŠKODA
models, the three-spoke design has been optimised in terms of thickness and shape, and extensive height and reach
adjustment options are taken for granted.

The heating function (three heat intensity levels) can be activated and controlled through the MIB.

The front-seat passenger backrest can be completely folded down (optional for the Ambition and the Style) to facilitate
transportation of long objects inside the car.

Heated seats (either front or rear) come as an option across all trim levels. From the Ambition upwards, this function can
be combined with ventilated front seats (exclusively in combination with a leather upholstery and electrically adjustable
front seats). The ventilation is independent of the heating function.

The back sides of the front seats (both driver and front passenger) can be fitted with a foldable table.

Second row
The second-row seats are split 60/40 and are foldable (backrests only) and longitudinally sliding (180 mm), with a tilting
backrest. Both of the second-row edge seats in the 7-seater version are designed to make the getting to the third-row
seats more comfortable.

Third row of seats

The third row consists of two seats with separate,
foldable backrests. The third-row compartment is fitted
with reading lamps and two safety belt anchorage points.

4.3.9  Ventilation, heating, air-conditioning

The interior heating and cooling function is provided by the air-conditioning system. Three versions are available
for the KODIAQ:

Air-conditioning with manual temperature control (standard from the Active)

Dual-zone Air-condition Climatronic – electronically controlled air-conditioning including a humidity sensor
(standard for the Style, optional for the Active and the Ambition)
Three-zone Air-condition Climatronic – electronically controlled air-conditioning including a humidity sensor
(optional for the Ambition and the Style)
Launch & Training Guide

46
Dual-zone Air-condition Climatronic
Standard system components include a humidity sensor, odour-absorbing activated carbon filter (combined filter),
automatic air recirculation and sun radiation intensity sensor. With this AC system in place, the glove compartment
in front of the front passenger is cooled.

Three-zone Air-condition Climatronic

As an option (except for the Active), it is possible to set
three autonomous thermal comfort zones in the KODIAQ:

Driver zone
Front-seat passenger zone
Rear-seat zone

The temperature range available in each of these zones

is 16–29.5 °C. The Zone 3 temperature settings, normally
controlled on the rear side of the Jumbo Box, can be
deactivated in the infotainment system.

4.3.10  Luggage compartment

Luggage compartment is a discipline in which ŠKODA vehicles keep beating the competition comfortably, and the
KODIAQ is no exception in this respect – the vehicle boasts a boot whose size is unrivalled across ŠKODA's whole
product portfolio. The basic boot size of the five-seater version is 720 litres, and over 2 m3 with the rear seats
folded down.

The generous size combined with a practical shape, a huge access opening and a variety of smart solutions make
luggage transportation really easy.

Also exceptional is the variability of the interior, the key factors including:

60/40 split foldable rear seats

Foldable rear-seat backrest from the boot
Through-hole to the luggage compartment in the armrest location
Foldable front-seat backrest
Longitudinally sliding second-row seats

Door Edge Protection

The Door Edge Protection system will no doubt be appreciated by anybody who parks their car in crowded
shopping‑centre parking lots and/or car-packed city streets.

The protector slides out automatically as the door is opened, and is mechanical, completely independent
of the car's electrical system. The cover gets pulled out completely to protect the door edge as soon as
the door‑opening angle reaches 11°, and gets pushed back as the door is shut, without the user's intervention.

4.4.2  Optional accessories

A high degree of configurability and individualisation has always been one of ŠKODA's strengths. As usual, the brand
offers a wide range of optional equipment that can be used to extend each of the available trim levels, and customers
can thus tailor their cars to meet their needs and preferences.

Besides accessories usually seen in vehicles of this class and size, ŠKODA's brand new SUV features a number
of innovative, exciting solutions – see below for more details.

Second-generation MIB infotainment systems
The KODIAQ exclusively offers infotainment systems with colour touch screens – the minimum screen size is 6.5",
i.e. the latest editions of these MIB radio and navigation systems have grown on both the top and bottom ends of
the portfolio. The Swing MIB is now 1.5" bigger and the Columbus MIB will grow by 1.2" to reach 9.2" (from CW 22/2017),
enough to compete with tablets. To underscore the “tablet look”, hardware buttons have been replaced with sensory
ones. Sensory buttons are also present in the Bolero and Amundsen MIBs to complement the rotary volume and
menu controls.

The MIBs can be linked with mobile devices using the SmartLink+ interface with integrated MirrorLinkTM, Apple CarPlay
and Google Android Auto services.

The KODIAQ's 575 W sound system with nine speakers and a subwoofer takes listening to music and spoken word to
a new quality level. The system components have been selected and tailored in cooperation with CANTON developers.
The CANTON Sound System cannot be combined with a full-size spare wheel.

Key characteristics:

10 speakers: 4 front, 4 rear, 1 in the dashboard and a subwoofer in the luggage compartment
575 W: ten-channel amplifier
3D CANTON Surround Sound: a digital processor can modulate the CANTON Surround Sound also for radio (FM/DAB)

New features of the second-generation MIB

Digital Voice Enhancement

Clearly audible communication between front-seat and rear-seat car occupants, primarily at high speeds. Using
microphones, the system senses the voices of front-seat occupants to convey the sound to rear-seat occupants in real
time. Digitally treated for high audibility, the sound is free from noises, i.e. the driver can stay focused on driving, and
the conversation is clear-to-understand and thus the drive is safer.

Exciting features of the second-generation MIB

Drive Green
The application evaluates the environmental friendliness of the car operation (from 0 to 100 points). Rather than the
achieved fuel consumption, it is the driving style that counts. The driver is alerted of any environmentally unfriendly
actions (changing gears inappropriately, not driving smoothly enough, speeding, braking inappropriately) by pictograms
appearing in a green leaf. The application provides an overview of the current points status; if the driver touches
the display with his/her finger, fuel-saving suggestions will be displayed.
For a more detailed description of this system see the ŠKODA Superb LTG available on the B2B Portal
(http://portal.skoda-auto.com).

Media Command App

The Media Command application makes it possible to control selected functions of the Columbus MIB (and now also
the Amundsen MIB), using a mobile device (tablet, smartphone) and Wi-Fi. Supported by Android and iOS devices,
available in the respective app stores.

The Media Command application provides access to the following MIB sections:
Media
Navigation
Radio
Audio settings

Parking assistance systems
When parking, KODIAQ drivers can be assisted by as many as 16 “guardians” that take the form of ultrasound sensors (12)
and cameras (4). Data generated by these devices are processed and displayed by various parking assistants that differ
in the number of sensors in use and therefore also in the functions made available.

Park Distance Control – front and rear

The key benefit of integrating this control function with the vehicle's data network is the possibility of getting
information also from other vehicle systems. For example, the steering wheel turn information makes it possible to view
the expected trajectory (including a potential collision with an obstacle) on the MIB display. The radio volume is turned
Product information

down upon starting the parking manoeuvre.

61
4 Product information

Park Assist
The functions of the KODIAQ's automatic parking assistant (Version 3.0) are the same as in the Superb III. The system
substantially facilitates the following parking-related manoeuvres:

Parking into a line of vehicles parked parallel to the road

Unparking from a line of vehicles parked parallel to the road
Reversing into a line of perpendicularly parked vehicles
Perpendicular parking in a forward direction
Collision protection – integrated automatic braking assistant

Rear Traffic Alert

Part of the Blind Spot Detect, the system uses the two radar sensors in the rear bumper to monitor the area behind
the vehicle during perpendicular unparking (reversing) and warn the driver of traffic in the car's surroundings
(an uninterrupted tone in vehicles fitted with the front-and-rear Park Distance Control system or a gong sound)
plus display a message on the infotainment/onboard computer screen. If the system finds the situation critical, the car
starts braking automatically – the driver can stop the braking by depressing the accelerator pedal.

Trailer Assist
This assistance system makes trailer parking substantially easier. Once the target spot
for the trailer is selected on the onboard computer or MIB screen (only with Area View),
the car's electronics select the best steering wheel turn angle.

Cruise Control and Speed Limiter

The cruise control in the KODIAQ always comes with the Speed Limiter (in EU countries). While the Cruise Control
maintains pre-set speed, the Speed Limiter does not allow the driver to exceed pre-set speed. For safety reasons,
Launch & Training Guide

the function gets temporarily deactivated when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed (kickdown).

62
Other notable optional accessories
Phone Box with wireless charging
Known from the Superb and Octavia, the Phone Box signal amplifier (wireless connection with the external antenna)
is located in the storage compartment in front of the gearstick. By boosting the telephone signal (ca 20%), the system
increases the quality of phone calls (better sound) while reducing the discharge of the phone battery. Moreover,
the phone can be recharged wirelessly, using the Qi protocol that is supported e.g. by Samsung, Sony, HTC, LG and
Microsoft. For other brands, third-party accessories can be used (i.e. Qi-enabled smartphone cases).

To maximise the potential offered by the Phone Box, the phone needs to be placed to the compartment rear side down.

Phone Box with wireless charging:

Brings amplified signal to the phone

Inner phone storage space: 160 × 80 mm
Recharges the mobile phone battery
Does not connect the phone with vehicle systems (that is possible wirelessly via Bluetooth or by wire using
a USB cable).

Foldable towing device with electric release

The KODIAQ can be fitted with a tow bar either by the
manufacturer or additionally (ŠKODA Genuine Accessories).

Compared to the tow bar that made its debut in the Superb,
the KODIAQ's tow bar is designed for trailers weighing
as much as 2.5 tonnes; the release (pop-out) is controlled
electronically, using a switch in the luggage compartment.

A LED indicator in the tow bar switch provides the tow bar
position information: when the tow bar is secured (whether
popped out or folded down), the indicator is on permanently.
When the indicator flashes, the tow bar is not secured
against movement and needs to be secured manually.

Manufacturer-fitted tow bar benefits:

TSA (Trailer Stability Assistant) – vehicle-and-trailer stabilisation system.

Only the trailer fog lamp comes on; the vehicle fog lamp stays off.
Rear parking sensors deactivated for rear trailer parking (applies to vehicles fitted with the genuine parking control
system).
LED icon in the control switch indicates whether or not the tow bar has been correctly released and secured.
Product information

Vehicles fitted with the pop-out tow bar from the ŠKODA Genuine Accessories portfolio feature the same functions
as those with the manufacturer-fitted tow bar.

Drive Mode Select

Using this system, drivers can set vehicle parameters to meet their preferences. As part of the infotainment menu,
it allows the driver to set up selected vehicle parameters depending on the driver's specific requirements. Preset
Normal, Sport, Eco and Comfort modes (only for vehicles with Adaptive Chassis Control DCC) are available. The Individual
mode is designed for custom setting. As an innovation, the DMS has been extended to include a mode called “Snow”
(more details in Chapter 4.7.6 Snow mode). Switching between driving modes is done by pressing the Driving Mode
Select button on the control button bar.
For a more detailed description of this system see the ŠKODA Octavia LTG available on the B2B Portal
(http://portal.skoda-auto.com).

Panoramic glass roof

With its generous size (outside glass 1,364 mm by
870 mm; inside glass 1,206 × 700 mm), the KODIAQ's
two-piece, electrically controlled panoramic glass roof
is guaranteed to provide excellent luminous comfort
in the car's interior. For maximum thermal comfort,
the window is dark-tinted to reduce the transmittance
of light (by 88%) and thermal energy (by 85%).

The window can be tipped slightly upwards or moved

backwards (electrically), in which case a wind deflector
in the front gets pulled out to reduce wind-generated
noises.

An electrically controlled (mesh-patterned) roller sunblind covers the whole window, front to back, independently
of the position of the glazed part.

KESSY – Keyless Entry, Start and exit SYstem

The KESSY is a comfort solution that made its debut at ŠKODA in 2009. The standard functions in the KODIAQ are
the same as in the Superb.

Easy Start KESSY

Optional for the Active, standard for the Ambition Optional for the Active and the Ambition,
standard for the Style
Simplified version of “KESSY” designed to facilitate Full-fledged keyless unlock/lock/start system
engine starts. After unlocking the car (by remote control
or by turning the key in the door lock), the engine can be
started by simply pressing the button on the steering
column.

Virtual Pedal (only in combination with electric trunk lid and KESSY)
Launch & Training Guide

The KODIAQ's touch-free tailgate opening system features a motion sensor to monitor the area under the rear bumper.
Upon detecting a “kick”, i.e. a foot moving forward and then backward (longitudinal direction) and identifying an
authorised key in the KESSY zone behind the vehicle, the system opens the tailgate. The tailgate opening is indicated by
a flashing brake light.

64
The tailgate can be closed in any of following ways:

New: another kick in the sensor-monitored area;

Pressing the control button (located in the rear KESSY zone)
Pressing the switch in the tailgate
Pressing the switch in the tailgate handle
Pressing button in the door pannel on driver's side
Gently touching the tailgate (“Tip to Close”) – having detected this impulse, the system starts closing
the tailgate

Electric trunk lid

Fitted with electric drive units,
the tailgate can be easily
opened and closed by pressing
a button on the remote control,
in the driver door panel or under the tailgate handle.
This system prevents, for example, the tailgate from
soiling the user's fingers and/or clothes.

Selected functions

Safety function: closing resistance monitoring – pinch prevention

Individually adjustable top tailgate position
In combination with KESSY: the tailgate can be opened by pressing the button on the remote control (the key has
to be detected in the area behind the vehicle).

The opening speed is 4.6 seconds, the closing takes just a little longer (5 seconds).

Independent auxiliary heating and ventilation

This programmable, remote-controlled independent heating system can warm up the vehicle to a desired temperature
and, if required, defrost the windscreen. The combustion of fuel in the car's tank warms up the engine coolant
(and therefore the engine itself), which warms up the air flowing into the passenger compartment. The auxiliary heating
system is available for both petrol and diesel engines. In addition to heating, the system is also designed to vent hot air
from the car and thus keep the interior temperature user-friendly.

Independent auxiliary heating benefits:

Replaces the electric auxiliary heating function.

Is activated automatically at cold starts and at temperatures of below 5°C.
Starts warming up the interior and defrosting the windows almost right after its activation.
Cools down the interior on summer days – by switching on the ventilation system (ventilator).
Makes it possible to set the time of departure – based on the outside temperature, the car's electronics set
the optimum heating activation time to ensure that the engine and interior are warm enough at the time

Heated windscreen
The heated windscreen will be appreciated mainly by drivers who park their cars outdoors: the system defrosts and/or
demists the windscreen quickly.

The KODIAQ's windscreen heating system takes the form of a thin metal-coated layer. Besides quick defrosting and/or
demisting, this solution offers the following benefits (as compared to resistance wire-based systems):

Distraction-free vision
The whole windscreen area, including edges, is heated
Prevents the thermal component of solar radiation from getting into the interior.

4.4.3 SWaP
SWaP (SoftWare as Product) makes it possible to fit the vehicle with additional accessories not fitted by
the manufacturer. Besides software interventions, some functions require additional hardware, too.

The list of products that customers can get for their cars is available in ETKA.

SmartGate
While SmartLink provides communication in the smartphone j car direction, SmartGate works the other way round.
The SmartGate interface makes selected data from the car's electronic systems or the CAN bus available to smartphone
apps. The communication is enabled via USB cable (except for the ŠKODA LittleDrive app which communicates using
Wi‑Fi), in one direction: car j smartphone j application concerned. As a novelty SmartGate is a part of SmartLink+
solution, i.e. for the first time in a ŠKODA car it is not a separate hardware but an integral part of the MIB unit.

Over 40 parameters are available this way; and ŠKODA AUTO has prepared the following apps to make use of them:

ŠKODA Drive
ŠKODA G-meter
ŠKODA MFA Pro
ŠKODA Performance
ŠKODA LittleDriver

Applications installed on smartphones can then process these data and, on their basis, compute and graphically display
operating parameters of the car.
List of available apps can be found at: http://www.skoda-auto.com/en/experience/mobile-apps/connectivity-apps/.
Selected existing ŠKODA applications will be integrated within new ŠKODA One App.

MirrorLink™, SmartGate, Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto compatibility:

MirrorLink™, Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto facilitate communication between infotainment systems
in ŠKODA vehicles and smartphones/tablets (or, more specifically, software applications installed in the respective
phones). SmartGate enables selected software applications installed on smartphones/tablets to access vehicle
data. Proper communication within the MirrorLink™, SmartGate Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto systems
depends on correct functionality of the respective smartphone/tablet and the apps installed in such device.
Please note that not all smartphones/tablets are compatible with MirrorLink™, SmartGate Apple CarPlay and Google
Android Auto. For more information on smartphone/tablet compatibility visit http://go.skoda.eu/connectivity

LTE Internet and WLAN

As one of the basic functions offered by the Columbus MIB and now also the Amundsen MIB, it is possible to set up
a local wireless network, a.k.a. WLAN (Wi-Fi), to share Internet connection made available either by a phone or
the integrated telephone module with LTE support.
The Wi-Fi reach is mainly targeted at the car interior; transmission outside the car depends on the car specifications
(sunroof, etc.). The theoretical speed of the WLAN (IEEE 802.11n) is up to 300 Mbit/s (in Superb II, the maximum speed is
54 Mbit/s) and is fully sufficient for the current speeds of the LTE mobile Internet. To secure the connection, the system
uses WPA2 encryption.
Through a wireless Wi-Fi network it is possible to connect multimedia devices using the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play)
to the MIB in order to play music (or any supported audio/video files) from them.

4.4.5 Wheels
The KODIAQ wheel portfolio comprises a total of 8 options, with dimensions ranging from 17" to 19". The 9 th variant,
20" wheels will be available from CW 45/2017. Four lightweight alloy wheel designs are making their debut at ŠKODA.

Contiseal tyres
Contiseal is a self-sealing tyre technology devised to mitigate the consequences of tyre tread damages – a high-viscose
layer working as an adhesive and sealant in one is applied to the inner side of the tread to immediately seal holes
of as much as 5 mm in diameter (e.g. nail punctures).
In the event of a tyre defect, the driver does not need to stop and replace the tyre immediately, which, in some
situations, may be rather dangerous (heavy traffic, motorway, etc.). Contiseal tyres are compatible with standard rims
and, under normal circumstances, their performance is identical with that of tyres that do not feature this technology.
The Contiseal system is fitted to all 19" and 20" KODIAQ tyres; for 18" tyres it is available as an optional extra.

Remember that:
The new KODIAQ is fitted exclusively with second-generation infotainment (MIB) systems.
The MIB screen size is 6.5" in the Swing, 8" in the Bolero and Amundsen and 9.2" with sensory control buttons
in the Columbus (from CW 22/2017).
A USB slot for external audio devices comes as standard with all MIBs.
The KODIAQ can be fitted with an additional USB slot for rear-seat passengers (part of the Jumbo Box,
incl. a 230 V socket).
Comfort telephony (Bluetooth hands-free) comes as standard with the Bolero MIB and higher (optional for Swing).
For the Bolero MIB and higher, the infotainment systems feature SmartLink+ (SmartGate, MirrorLink™,
Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto) as a standard.
As an innovation, the Swing infotainment system can be fitted with SmartLink+.
All MIBs feature the Drive Green function designed to evaluate environmental parameters of the user's driving
style.
The Media Command App makes it possible to control the Columbus and Amundsen MIBs through an application
installed in a mobile device.
Producing 575 W of power, the CANTON Sound System comprises 10 speakers (including a subwoofer).
With the Phone Box system in place, the user can make phone calls also in low-signal locations.
Moreover, the Phone Box with wireless charging is now also able to recharge mobile phone batteries.
Safe parking is facilitated by 4, 8 or as many as 12 ultrasound sensors…
… or one camera of the Rear View Camera system or 4 cameras of the Area View system…
… alternatively, with the third-generation Park Assist, the KODIAQ can choose a suitable space and park itself
(both parallel and perpendicular parking, including “front first”).
The Rear Traffic Alert is another system to facilitate parking manoeuvres.
As an innovation, the car's foldable towing device is released by pressing an electronic switch in the luggage
compartment.
The tailgate can be fitted with an electronic opening system.
The Virtual Pedal makes it possible to open and now also close the tailgate easily, by making a “kick” under the
rear bumper.
The windscreen is heated with a transparent metal-coated layer to provide distraction-free vision.
The SmartGate interface makes it possible to view information from the vehicle's data network on a mobile

phone display.
As standard, the Columbus and Amundsen MIBs make it possible to set up a local wireless network, a.k.a. WLAN
(Wi-Fi).

Radar-based assistance systems

The KODIAQ can be fitted with two independent radar systems, with a total of three radar units in the front and rear.

› Front Assist

› Adaptive Cruise Control › Blind Spot Detect

› Crew Protect Assist (front) › Rear Traffic Alert

› Pedestrian Monitor

Pedestrian Monitor
This new autonomous assistance system prevents collisions with pedestrians
and minimises the car's speed in the event of an impact. A radar scans the area
in front of the car and detects pedestrians on the road, using a sophisticated
signal evaluation algorithm.
The function is active at speeds of between 10 and 60 km/h (maximum brake
activation); at speeds of over 30 km/h the driver gets a warning message
on the integrated instrument panel.

Blind Spot Detect

This radar-based assistance
system prevents the driver
from failing to notice a car
in their blind spot.
The system is active
at speeds of 15 km/h and
above, and warning signals
appear in the outer top
corners of the wing mirrors.

The side-mirror warning signal comes on in the following situations:

  When being overtaken;
When overtaking at a speed higher by max. 10 km/h – the warning signal does not come on when the overtaking car
is moving at a higher speed.
Product information

If the vehicle is coupled with a trailer, the Blind Spot Detect system will automatically switch itself off and inform
the driver (of such deactivation) on the MFA display (or Maxi Dot/Colour Maxi Dot).
For a more detailed description of this system see the ŠKODA Superb LTG (2015) available on the B2B Portal
(http://portal.skoda-auto.com).

4 Product information

Rear Traffic Alert

The rear-bumper sensors (shared with the Blind Spot Detect system) monitor the movement of other vehicles.
For example, the system warns the driver of rear traffic as they pull away from a row of perpendicularly parked vehicles
(visually on the infotainment display/onboard computer display or acoustically), or, if the case so requires, intervenes
proactively, i.e. stops the car. The braking can be stopped by the driver's intervention (depressing the accelerator pedal).

Functional speed range 1–12 km/h.

After the intervention, the car is held braked for 2 seconds at a standstill.
After this, about 10 seconds must pass before the system resumes its operation.

Front Assist
A system designed to monitor the distance from the vehicle ahead, including automatic slowing down and braking,
and to warn the driver of the danger of collision or, if a collision is inevitable, minimise its consequences by braking.
The system is functional at all speeds except for very low, “traffic jam” speeds. The Front Assist system can be set
in the MIB menu and/or switched on/off on the Maxi Dot display.

Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go

The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) automatically keeps a sufficient
distance from vehicles moving ahead (max. 160 km/h or 210 km/h),
dynamically, depending on the movement of the vehicles ahead
or on a driver-defined safety distance.

Vehicles with ACC and DSG are fitted with the Stop&Go function to
automatically stop the car and move it forward in response to vehicles
ahead stopping and moving forward. The KODIAQ stops and, if the stop
is not longer than 3 seconds, moves forward again without the driver's intervention. When the stop is longer than
3 seconds, the driver has to depress the accelerator pedal or move the Adaptive Cruise Control lever to the Resume
position.

Vehicles fitted with the Adaptive Cruise Control come with a third control lever on the steering wheel column
(left side, under the flasher lever).

More details about other safety assistance systems is available in SPI 2/2012 Assistance Systems and,
in electronic form, on the ŠKODA Portal (https://portal.skoda-auto.com).

Camera-based assistance systems
A camera (two types are available) located at the top of the windscreen (rear-view mirror base) enables the functionality
of three assistance systems.

› Travel Assist

Other cameras provide information to the Area View and Rear View Camera systems.

Camera type and resolution Assistance system

1,280 × 800 camera in the rear-door handle › Rear View Camera
› Area View
1,280 × 800 cameras in the wing mirrors and the radiator grille › Area View

Rear View Camera

Located in the tailgate handle, the parking camera is activated automatically upon
engagement of the reverse gear to show the area behind the vehicle and respond
to steering-wheel turns by displaying dynamic guide lines (the distance between
these lines is identical with that of the vehicle's width). In addition to a standard
display mode, the system offers special modes for trailer parking and semi-
automatic parking.

Area View
The Area View system provides perfect information about what's going
on in the car's immediate surroundings. Four wide-angle cameras
(1,280 × 800 px, 180° horizontal, 120° vertical) show real-time pictures
in the vehicle's 360° surroundings on the MIB display. Two cameras
are located in the wing mirrors, one in the radiator grille and one in the
tailgate (also used by the Rear View Camera system).

The display can show pictures provided by the respective cameras,

one overall picture or a 3D bird's eye view. Individual-camera views come
with a variety of modes suitable for various traffic situations.

Auto Light Assist (former Intelligent Light Assist)

This camera-based high-beam assistant automatically switches on and dips
the high beams according to light conditions and the traffic situation while
monitoring outside sources of light, such as oncoming vehicles, public lighting
in cities, etc.

Lane Assist
The primary mission of this system is to proactively keep the vehicle in its lane. The camera monitors the horizontal
road marking, and the assistant intervenes in the steering to keep the vehicle inside its lane. This function is mainly
about safety, i.e. the system prevents unwanted lane changes, but does not play the role of an autonomous driving
solution – the driver is required to keep their hands on the steering wheel. The “adaptive lane guidance” mode is a smart
function designed to intervene in the steering in order to keep the vehicle in the centre of its lane.

Travel Assist – traffic sign recognition

The multi-function camera and the navigations system work together to recognise and display, on the Maxi Dot
and navigation displays, the following traffic signs:

Limited speed and end of limited speed

No overtaking and end of no overtaking
End-of-restriction signs in general
Additional signs (if road is wet; direction darts; truck*; motorcycle*)

*  Signs recognised but not displayed by the system.

The system is able to identify

signs on both the left and right
sides, as well as above the road.
Moreover, it is able to identify
variable traffic signing, too
(electronic information boards).
Launch & Training Guide

More detailed information about the safety assistance systems is available in SPI 2/2012 Assistance Systems and,
in electronic form, on the ŠKODA Portal (https://portal.skoda-auto.com).

80
Other
Manoeuvre Assist
The mission of this assistant is to minimise the risk of a collision when the car is reversing. To detect static and mobile
obstacles, the system uses the ultrasound sensors of the Park Assist. If detecting a threat of colliding with an obstacle
(analysing the car's speed and direction) and the car's speed is between 1.5 km/h and 10 km/h, the system automatically
activates the brakes to stop the vehicle. The brake activation moment depends on the combination of the distance from
the obstacle and the car's speed. The function can be deactivated, either temporarily or permanently.

Crew Protect Assist – proactive protection of front-seat car occupants

In the event of a threatening collision, the role of this assistant is to protect the front-seat compartment by:

Retracting the front-seat safety belts

Pulling up the electrically-controlled side windows (if open) as high as 55 mm below the closed position

Shutting the electrically-controlled panoramic glass roof (if fitted)

If the car is fitted with the front radar (Front Assist), the Crew Protect Assist can also play a predictive role: monitoring
the traffic ahead, the system is able to predict emergencies and intervene across a wider range of situations.

Driver Alert – driver fatigue detection

This system monitors the driver's behaviour, evaluates the degree of their tiredness and,
if necessary, recommends the driver to stop and have a rest, thus reducing the risk of dangerous
situations that might result from the driver's fatigue. An acoustic warning is combined with a visual
alert on the integrated instrument panel display.
Product information

Multi-Collision Brake
In the event that the driver's/front passenger's belt pretensioner is activated, the Multi-Collision Brake starts braking
to prevent further uncontrolled movement of the vehicle and thus reduce the likelihood of further collisions, while
the hazard warning lights start flashing and the brake lights come on. The automatic braking system is deactivated
when the driver intervenes to increase the speed of the braking above 0.6 g or depresses the accelerator pedal.

81
4 Product information

Leaving Car Concept

This safety function is activated when the driver leaves the vehicle without securing it against uncontrolled movement,
switching the lights off, etc.

In addition to audio and visual alerts, the assistant will intervene proactively, e.g. switching the headlamps off
if the driver has forgotten to do so or automatically activating the electromechanical parking brake.

Emergency Assist
The Emergency Assist system mitigates the risk of an incident in the event of the driver's sudden health collapse.
This safety function is an extension to the Lane Assist system and part of the Adaptive Cruise Control system, and it
also liaises with the DSG and Lane Assist systems and the electromechanical parking brake.

If the Lane Assist system ascertains that the driver's hands are not on the steering wheel, including after an alert,
the Emergency Assist takes over to slow down the vehicle, keep it in the centre of its lane and activate the hazard
warning lights that then keep flashing until the point of stopping the vehicle.

Traffic Jam Assist

The Traffic Jam Assist is a comfort function designed to facilitate the steering of DSG-fitted vehicles in traffic jams.
It is part of the Adaptive Cruise Control Stop & Go system and it also liaises with the Lane Assist system and, when
necessary, the front parking sensors. By controlling the engine, brakes and steering, the Traffic Jam Assist makes
the vehicle pull away, brake and turn to copy the movement of the surrounding vehicles (at speeds of up to 60 km/h).

ESC system and its functions

The functions of the ESC (Electronic Stability Control) system are used also by other assistance systems.
Their integration into the ESC makes it possible for them to cooperate with each other and thus increase
the effectiveness of their interventions.

Two-level ESC deactivation – exclusively for 4×4 vehicles

The electronic stability system for 4×4 KODIAQs offers three setting levels:

Standard ESC settings

Short press of the button deactivates the ASR (Deactivation Level 1).
Long press of the button also activates the ESC-Sport mode in which the ESC function intervenes later, which enables
the driver to drive more dynamically, yet safely (Deactivation Level 2).

The ESC cannot be deactivated completely.

Halogen headlamps
Halogen headlamps with reflector technology are the standard solution for the Active trim level. The light beam
emitted by the halogen lamp is reflected on the reflector area and is therefore shaped and projected onto the road
in a predefined format.

Full-LED headlamps with integrated LED fog lamps

The KODIAQ's top-end headlamps are all about LED technology. In addition to the daytime running lights, a well-tried
system by now, light emitting diodes are used across all other functions. The key benefits of LED include longer service

life and higher resistance to vibrations and, as a result, lower maintenance costs. The conversion of electrical energy
to light energy is highly efficient, the results of which include power consumption reduced by fifty per cent (compared
to halogen lamps, see the table above) and CO2 emissions reduced by as much as 1 gram. The colour temperature
of the LED headlamps is closer to that of daylight, so it is more eye-friendly.

84
Rear integrated LED taillights
The standard solution (for all trim levels) is a set of integrated LED lights (except for the direction indicators).

The KODIAQ is fitted with LED taillights (across all trim levels). Two versions are available – the differences between
them include design details, the size of the light-emitting area and the presence of the crystalline effect.

LED technology
The key benefits include reduced power consumption and, most importantly, fast light-up. This aspect is mainly
important in the brake lamps – the driver of the vehicle behind gets more time to respond. Other positive factors
include longer service life of the diodes and their high resistance to vibrations.
When used in the headlamps, the diodes offer a multitude of beam-shaping and performance options.

4.5.4  Anti-theft and anti-misuse solutions

The KODIAQ is secured against break-in and misuse (including the sophisticated “Component Protection” system).

Standard Optional
› Immobiliser › Alarm with interior monitoring, back-up siren
› VIN and barcode label and inclination sensor
› Component Protection
› Central locking with SAFE system

Immobiliser
This protection item is designed to distinguish between authorised and unauthorised parts of the system and thus
protect the vehicle against unauthorised use. Upon switching on the ignition the integrated instrument panel control
unit checks the validity of the key and all other components of the immobiliser system. If even just one part of the
system is not “authorised”, the system will not allow the driver to start the engine and engage gears (if applicable).

VIN label
Located visibly under the windscreen, the VIN and barcode label facilitates vehicle identification.

Component Protection
The Component Protection system reduces the likelihood of ŠKODA infotainment systems being stolen, because these
systems, just like their control units, are protected with unique, vehicle-specific codes. This code, unique for each unit,
is used for vehicle system authorisation that takes place upon each ignition switch-on. If the authorisation fails,
the function of the control unit concerned is limited, and only an authorised service partner can make such control unit
fully operational again.

Central locking with SAFE system

As part of the central locking system, the SAFE function is another anti-theft solution. The vehicle is locked in a manner
ensuring that even if somebody breaks the windows, the doors cannot be opened from inside. This function is always
offered along with an alarm system, the reason being the obligation to make it possible to deactivate the SAFE system
(using a button on the B-pillar).

Alarm with interior monitoring

Fitted with a siren and an independent power supply unit, the alarm system monitors:

All doors and the engine lid & tailgate

Ignition box
Vehicle inclination
Onboard voltage drops
Vehicle's interior
Launch & Training Guide

The interior monitoring system can be deactivated by pressing a button located in the bottom part of the B-pillar;
this action deactivates the inclination sensor and the SAFE system, too.

4.6.1  Petrol engines
The petrol engines for the KODIAQ fall under the EA211 and EA888gen3 lines.
The technology of these lines and engines is known to customers from existing ŠKODA models.
ŠKODA continues developing and enhancing its engines – the EA888gen3 engine
(Chapter 4.6.1.2) has been redesigned since the latest description provided in the Superb LTG
(2015). Starting in CW 22/2017, the EA211 engines (EA888gen3 from SOP) will be filled with the
0W-20 oil to reduce engine friction and thus also the fuel consumption and CO2 emission levels.

4.6.1.1  1.4 TSI/92/110 kW

The basic-level petrol engine is a front-mounted transverse inline four-cylinder, turbocharged and liquid-cooled, with
direct fuel injection and 2×OHC. This engine is available in two output versions, 92 kW and 110 kW. The more powerful
version comes with ACT, a progressive cylinder deactivation technology. If and as necessary and depending on the
engine load, the ACT system can deactivate the middle two cylinders to reduce the car's fuel consumption.

The process of reactivating the two deactivated cylinders takes a half turn of the crankshaft (13–36 milliseconds),
is basically impossible-to-detect and has no impact on the smoothness of the engine run. The transitions are
compensated for by interventions in the ignition and also by throttle valve position changes.

The cylinder deactivation decision is made by the control electronics, and is based on the driver's engine-power
demands. The system is active between 1,250 rev/min and 4,000 rev/min and within a torque range of 25–100 Nm.

For a more detailed description of this system see the ŠKODA Superb LTG available on the B2B Portal
(http://portal.skoda-auto.com).

When combined with four-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox, the 1.4 TSI/110 kW engine is not fitted with
the ACT system.

4.6.1.2  2.0 TSI/132 kW

The top-end petrol engine is a front-mounted transverse inline two-litre four-cylinder, turbocharged and liquid-cooled,
with combined (direct and indirect) fuel injection, 2×OHC and two balance shafts. Available for the first time in a ŠKODA,
this engine features technologies that are also making their debuts at ŠKODA, e.g. the B-cycle (modified Miller cycle).
Combined with a turbocharger and variable intake and exhaust valve timing, the unit achieves improved mechanical
and thermodynamic efficiency and cuts down fuel consumption while also reducing the NOx emission levels.

B-cycle description
The Miller cycle is based on a difference between the compression ratio and the expansion ratio. The intake valves
(under partial load) close earlier, as a result of which the cylinder receives a relatively smaller quantity of aspirated air
Product information

(which is compensated by turbocharging and cooling the compressed air). When the fuel is injected and ignited,
the combustion gases have more space for expansion – as compared to the conventional cycle. This substantially
increases the combustion efficiency and reduces the quantity of pollutants.

89
4 Product information

Basically, the engine offers two operating modes:

TWO OPERATING MODES

FULL LOAD PARTIAL LOAD

Economical mode
Dynamic mode
(B-cycle)
Full use of the max. torque High-efficiency
of 320 Nm from 1,400 revs/min. combustion cycle

These two different operating modes are enabled by:

Variable intake valve opening time (140˚ or 170˚) and variable valve stroke
High compression ratio – 11.65:1
New design of the intake ducts, combustion chambers and pistons

B-cycle benefits:
High efficiency under partial load combined with unchanged full-load dynamics
Low pollutant emission levels (NOx)

4.6.2  Diesel engines

The diesel engines for the KODIAQ fall under the EA288 line. The technology
of the EA288 engines is known to customers from existing ŠKODA models.

The design parameters of these engines are identical with those in the Superb –
at that stage ŠKODA took the following CO2 emission optimisation measures:

Friction in the accessory drive train reduced thanks to a new alternator pulley with
an integrated torsional damper
Reduced piston friction
0W-30 oil

The two-litre 85 kW engine is derived from the 2.0 TDI/110 kW. The difference between 81 kW in YETI and 85 kW
in KODIAQ lies in the physical location of the SCR system that, as an innovation, is part of the exhaust gas cleaning
system, downstream of the turbocharger outlet in the engine compartment.

Automatic DSG gearboxes
Generally, the DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) systems offer a combination of benefits of manual transmissions
(high efficiency and excellent economy) and automatic gearboxes (high gear-shifting comfort). Other major benefits
include uninterrupted torque flow, smooth cooperation with assistance systems (Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Assist),
the “sailing mode” designed to reduce fuel consumption (so-called freewheel). The sailing mode that is designed
to “simulate” shifting to neutral done by drivers of manual-gearbox vehicles (e.g. when approaching traffic lights).
When this function is active (can be set in the MIB J ECO drive mode) and the driver releases the accelerator pedal,
the DSG control unit uncouples the clutch to interrupt the flow of torque between the engine and the gearbox.
With minimum fuel consumption, the engine runs at low (freewheel) revs and the vehicle consistently uses its own
kinetic energy to move forward (inertia). This way the fuel consumption can be reduced by as much as 0.5 l/100 km
(depending on the engine type and also on the driving style).

For the first time in a ŠKODA, the KODIAQ features a 7-speed gearbox with wet clutches: DQ500-7F (DQ500-7A).
This dual-clutch gearbox is designed for high loads, and is therefore a good match for high-power engines – with this
gearbox in place, the weight of trailers the KODIAQ can tow is as much as 2.5 tonnes. The system is based on a wet dual
clutch and a single oil bath for this clutch, the gearbox and the hydraulics. The control unit is integrated in the gearbox.

The KODIAQ is harvesting the fruits of ŠKODA's extensive experience of the MQB – the new arrival is the third vehicle
that ŠKODA has developed on this modular platform. The solution developed for the KODIAQ is referred to as MQB37A.

Thanks to the MQB's high modularity and flexibility, the KODIAQ boasts all
MQB – modular platform used
of the properties typically appreciated in ŠKODA vehicles, including high passive
for vehicles with transversely
and active safety, generous space for both the car occupants and their luggage
mounted front engines
and, last but not least, excellent driving properties combining high comfort
and agility.

To reflect the specifics of the new SUV, including possible configurations with as many as seven seats and use in
off‑road conditions, the MQB platform has been modified accordingly.

Although the KODIAQ's outside dimensions are not above the class average, its interior is considerably roomier than
those of its rivals, offering space for both the car occupants and their luggage and highlighting once again ŠKODA
engineers' high competence in terms of interior-space utilisation.

The low kerb weight (with regard to its outside dimensions) and the high payload underscore the ingenuity and quality
of the car's self-supporting body and the MQB platform.

4.7.1 Body
High static torsional rigidity is an important indicator in terms of passive safety, as well as chassis tuning.
This high rigidity results in top-class driving comfort, as well as high accuracy of dynamic manoeuvres. In other words:
the stronger the skeleton, the more confident, comfortable and safer is the overall impression of the car.

The body skeleton design continues the trend set by the Octavia and Superb, i.e. a high, nearly 20% share
of hot‑formed, high-strength steel elements as a strong contributing factor behind the car's low kerb weight.

The use of state-of-the-art development methods and material technologies in designing the body skeleton
has the following positive effects:

The comparison with the third-generation Superb and Octavia shows that the use of PHS steel (over 1,000 MPa)
in the KODIAQ's body is extensive, completely in line with the latest trend. The resulting benefits for drivers
of ŠKODA vehicles are obvious: reduced weight, higher safety and, most importantly, higher driving agility…
moreover, in the KODIAQ all this is true also in off-road conditions.

4.7.2 Axles
The axle, wheel control and suspension design is based on the well-tried MQB platform technology (used also in
the current-generation VW Tiguan). Compared with ordinary passenger cars, the KODIAQ's wheel suspension system
has been modified to sustain higher operating loads. The springs and shock absorbers are tuned to match with the car's
weight determined by the engine and trim concerned.

The rear axle design is the same for both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive vehicles; the only difference is that
the four-wheel-drive version includes components directly relating to the wheel drive system (axle drive shafts, etc.).

The axles used in combination with the adaptive chassis (DCC) comes with different shock absorbers – the shock
absorber units are fitted with electronically controlled valves and motion sensors on both front wheels [more

4 Product information

4.7.3  Adaptive chassis (DCC)

The adaptive chassis control system, optional for
the Ambition and Style trims, evaluates and responds
to various driving situations (braking, acceleration,
turning) while adapting the damping characteristics.
The damping force (in both wheel movement directions)
of each shock absorber is continuously evaluated
and adjusted in response to the input data and
in line with the mode concerned, independently for
each wheel. The key input parameter is the driver-set
mode (Sport/Comfort/Normal) – the electronics adjust
the car's behaviour accordingly.

The system can be controlled in the driving mode menu on the MIB infotainment screen or using the Drive Mode Select
button on the centre console.

The core element of the system is a dual-shell, gas-liquid shock absorber with adaptable damping characteristics.
Each shock absorber comes with an electronic valve to control the flow of oil and thus also the damping characteristics.
Another indispensible component of the adaptive chassis is its electronic control unit that continuously monitors and
evaluates various input parameters to choose optimum damping characteristics for each shock absorber.
When the adjustment control system fails, the shock absorber uses pre-set characteristics that are close to those
of the Normal mode for the conventional shock absorber. In the event of failure of one of the shock absorbers
the adjustment control of the remaining shock absorber units is deactivated.
For a more detailed description of this system see the ŠKODA Superb LTG available on the B2B Portal

102
4.7.4  Chassis protection
As standard, the bottom part of the KODIAQ is protected by plastic covers that, besides their protective function,
are shaped aerodynamically to optimise the air flows under the car.

To increase the degree of chassis protection, the vehicle can be fitted with the Rough Road Package, an optional
accessory taking the form of additional protection for the rear suspension lateral arms and the brake hoses.

4.7.5  Four-wheel drive

The four-wheel-drive system is based on an electro-hydraulically controlled multi-disc inter-axle clutch designed
to smoothly distribute the torque between the front and rear axles in ratio ranging between 96%–4% and 10%–90%.
The system can transmit as much as 85% of the available torque to a single wheel (in conjunction with the EDS).

4.7.6  Off-road mode
In order to make the driver's life easier on difficult-to-negotiate
roads (at speeds of less than 30 km/h), the car can be fitted
with an intelligent system designed to adjust the characteristics
of the engine, electronic assistants and stability control systems.
The Off‑road mode is not available for front-wheel-drive vehicles.

Depending on driving situations, the Off-road mode assistants

can be divided into the following groups:

Pull-away, traction and uphill start assist:

› Drive-Off Assist
(by adjusting the characteristics of the accelerator pedal and the engine revolution limiter, this system facilitates
steep uphill starts and the overall vehicle control at low speeds);
› ASR Off-road
(higher slip on driving wheels for improved traction on loose surfaces);
› EDS Off-road
(faster and more intensive response as compared with standard settings).

Braking support:
› ESC Off-road (in addition to the solutions used in the Yeti)
(the control limits have been adapted to prevent undesired interventions when the driver moves the steering wheel
to compensate for road irregularities);
› ABS Off-road
(increases the slip of the braked wheels to increase the braking effect, using a “wedge” formed by the material that
piles up in front of the slipping wheel).

Steep downhill support:

› Hill descent control
(by intervening in the engine and brake control, this system maintains the driver-set speed on steep downhill
stretches while ensuring that the car does not “tear itself off” to slide down the slope).

Snow mode
The “Snow” mode (exclusively for 4×4 vehicles) is a new Drive Mode Select item. In this mode the electronic assistants
are set to cope with low-grip surfaces.
The ABS operates similarly as in the Off-road mode (makes use of snow piled up in front of the slipping wheels).
For better traction, the ASR increases the wheel slip, the power steering gets stiffer and the adaptive chassis switches
to the Normal mode.
The gearbox shifts gears earlier (higher gears at lower engine speeds), and the accelerator pedal needs to be pressed
more for higher engine performance in order to avoid undesired wheel slip.

4.7.7 Steering
The ŠKODA KODIAQ, our new big SUV, is fitted with a rack-and-pinion steering system including an electromechanical
booster (power steering) with variable effect (decreases with increasing speed). During low-speed parking manoeuvres
the wheel control force is reduced for good manoeuvrability. The boosting effect decreases with increasing speed to
provide sufficient feedback and a high steering accuracy at high speeds.
Another benefit of the electromechanical booster is that it helps save fuel, as it is only active (consuming power and
therefore also fuel) when required.

The design of the electromechanical booster makes it possible for the steering system to cooperate with a wide range
of assistance systems, such as:
Launch & Training Guide

DSR (Driver Steering Recommendation) – helps the driver to correct the vehicle's trajectory in critical situations;
Lane Assist – helps keep the vehicle in the correct lane, as long as the road marking is noticeable enough;
Driver Alert – fatigue detection based on steering wheel movement;
Park Assist – automatic parking;
Drive Mode Select.

106
The control units of these systems actively communicate with the unit that controls the electromechanical steering.

4.7.8 Brakes
The new ŠKODA KODIAQ is fitted with a diagonally arranged hydraulic dual-circuit braking system with a vacuum brake
booster. To increase the braking force in emergencies, the braking system includes a four-channel ABS system (standard
part of the ESC) and a HBA system (hydraulic brake assist) with the Prefill function to reduce the total braking distance
by preparing the hydraulic system (hydraulic unit, fluid piping, callipers and pads) for emergency braking.

Electromechanical parking brake

Known from the Superb, the electromechanical parking brake acts on
the rear wheels, and the driver can manually activate/deactivate it by
pulling/pressing a button located on the centre console between the front
seats. If the driver's door is closed, the electromechanical parking brake
is automatically deactivated as the car is set in motion.

When the car is stationary and also during uphill starts, the “Autohold” function prevents the vehicle from moving
(regardless of the road gradient) without the driver having to depress the brake pedal. Once the vehicle has been set
in motion, the brakes are released automatically.

The Autohold function is activated/deactivated by pressing the Autohold button on the centre console.

Did you know that:

If the brake pedal fails while the car is in motion, it is possible to use the electromechanical parking
brake as an emergency brake? When you pull and hold the control button, the car starts braking strongly
(audio alert goes off simultaneously). The braking is stopped by releasing the button or depressing the
accelerator pedal.
The mechanical components are designed to continue working even in the event of a voltage loss?

4.7.9  Electronic stability systems

XDS+
Coming as standard across all of the KODIAQ's trim levels, the XDS+ is an electronic assistance system for increased
dynamics in bends.

Making use of selected parts of the ESC and ABS systems, the XDS+ basically simulates the presence of a limited‑slip
differential. By gently braking the inner driven wheels as the car is turning, the system makes it possible to transmit
more of the torque to the outer wheel and the resulting yawing moment helps the driver take the bend while limiting
the understeer.

Generally, the system improves traction and driving dynamics in bends while maintaining the driving comfort that is
determined by the chassis setting. The intensity of the XDS+ system's intervention depends on the cornering dynamics.

For a more detailed description of this system see the ŠKODA Superb LTG available on the B2B Portal
(http://portal.skoda-auto.com).
Launch & Training Guide

108
Remember that:
The generously sized body offers enough space in both longitudinal and transverse directions.
Based on the MQB-B platform with a high share of hot-formed, high-strength steel elements, the KODIAQ
offers a combination of high agility and high driving comfort.
The adaptive chassis (DCC) constantly monitors and evaluates the driving style and the road quality to
maximise safety. Moreover, it can be set to meet the driver's preferences.
The rack-and-pinion steering system with an electromechanical booster with variable effect saves
fuel and makes it possible to use advanced assistance systems while ensuring high accuracy of driving
manoeuvres, including parking ones.
The electromechanical parking brake with the Autohold function increases comfort when stopping or pulling
away.
The electronic limited-slip differential (XDS+) is designed to actively support the car's responsiveness and
agility and increase overall safety.
The four-wheel-drive system is based on an electro-hydraulically controlled inter-axle multi-disc clutch.
As an innovation, the Off-road mode comes with improved ESC settings.
In four-wheel-drive vehicles the Drive Mode Select system has been extended to include a mode
called “Snow”.

5.1 Rivals

The segment in which the ŠKODA KODIAQ will compete is highly

attractive. Customers have come to like these roomy, robust and yet
elegant cars – an SUV can meet the requirement for a car for family use,
spare time and work. No wonder that basically every manufacturer wants
to be present in this category.
What are the most typical features of these vehicles?
Dimensions on the border between the A (Octavia) and B (Superb) segments: 4.5–4.7 metres in length; wheel base
approx. 2.7 metres.
Robust build for a feeling of safety: the body is higher, and the driver and passengers therefore have a better view
of what's going on in the vehicle's surroundings.
Optional four-wheel-drive.
Variable interior: seats and boot configuration options nearly comparable with those in MPVs.
Elegant design: suitable for company fleets as well as for self-presentation purposes.
Comfort: roominess combined with high comfort and multitude of modern technologies.

We have taken the long list of competing models and selected five for which our new SUV will be a direct rival:
HYUNDAI Santa Fe
KIA Sorento
NISSAN X-Trail
FORD Kuga
MAZDA CX-5

The data provided on the following pages come from the German market and are relevant as at September 2016.

HYUNDAI Santa Fe
The third-generation Santa Fe / Grand Santa Fe with the Storm
Edge design has replaced two HYUNDAI lines, ix45 and ix55.
The intergenerational changes in terms of design, comfort and
quality have led to increasing the car's price to a level which the
brand's long-standing customers are not really used to. A facelift
in 2015 involved a number of new technological solutions,
including emergency braking and Area View.

KIA Sorento
The KIA designers say that the third-generation Sorento is
a “wolf” – not a mountain, forest or prairie wolf, but a “street” wolf.
By saying that, they are letting the world know that their biggest
SUV feels best in city traffic, on smooth roads. The Sorento is,
primarily, a comfortable, roomy family SUV. Despite its weight,
this big KIA surprises with high agility in bends resulting from
a combination of four-wheel-drive and ATCC (similar to XDS).

global design and agility compromised in favour of comfort,

5.2 Competition: Facts and Figures

As shown in the available engines table (Chapter 5.2.2 Engine configurations), the competitors offer a variety
of drivetrains, but specifically the petrol engines are rather difficult to compare. That is why the vehicles are
compared against these criteria on the following pages:

Top-selling diesel: configuration expected to be most popular, i.e. diesel engine, power output of around 100 kW,
four‑wheel-drive and manual transmission. The only exception is the KIA Sorento whose engine used
in this comparison produces 147 kW of power.

›› HYUNDAI Santa Fe 2.0 CRDi/110 kW
›› KIA Sorento 2.2 CRDi/147 kW
›› NISSAN X-Trail 1.6 dCi/96 kW
›› FORD Kuga 2.0 TDCi/110 kW
›› MAZDA CX-5 SKYACTIV-D 2.2/110 kW

High-end diesel: top-end diesel configuration, with four-wheel-drive and automatic transmission.
The only exception is the NISSAN X-Trail that is not included in this comparison, as it does not offer
a comparable drivetrain configuration.

Your sales arguments

The KODIAQ offers an excellent utilisation of the interior space, and although it does not dominate
the market across all dimensions, the size of its boot is unrivalled.
The KODIAQ wins also in terms of the maximum luggage transportation capacity.
Combination of an excellent transportation capacity and a high payload. Although the KODIAQ is designed for
a 7-seat configuration, its kerb weight is only 50 kg higher than that of the X-Trail, but the KODIAQ can carry
95 kg more (“top-selling” configuration).
Launch & Training Guide

The weight & driving parameters review (see the following subchapter) shows that the KODIAQ is
an excellently-balanced car. For example, its fuel consumption is on the par with that of the 150 kg lighter
MAZDA CX-5 (“top-selling” configuration).

Perfectly tuned: the KODIAQ's agility and economy (environmental friendliness) are on the par with those
of the MAZDA CX-5 whose weight is much lower, and its dynamics are even better that those of the more
powerful HYUNDAI Santa Fe.
The KODIAQ is one of the most economical (environmentally-friendly) cars across the whole field of 7-seat
SUV competitors.

“RECONNECT”: KODIAQ Marketing Communication
6.1
& Campaign Concept
Campaign insight & essence
Together with the ŠKODA model offensive and in line with ŠKODA's “Driven by Inventiveness” brand core, ŠKODA has
recently launched “Reconnect”, a campaign designed to promote its new big SUV – the KODIAQ. And why did we choose
Reconnect? The Reconnect campaign is based on consumer insight showing that kids spend too much time indoors,
glued to their PC screens and isolated from each other. In fact, many of us adults do, too. We are losing touch with what
matters most – family, friends and Mother Nature – and that makes us frustrated.

The KODIAQ is presented as a response to this social truth, and as a perfect solution: it is designed to accommodate
families and friends while helping them reconnect with each other and the “natural world”. No matter where they are,
the users can always be powered by the KODIAQ's driving capabilities and enjoy its advanced comfort and connectivity
systems.

Campaign story
With the scene & expectations being well set by the VisionS, the KODIAQ campaign started with the official name
announcement, including the well-known story of renaming the City of Kodiak to Kodiaq as a tribute to ŠKODA's new
SUV. The key objective of the pre-launch stage, “the Road to Berlin”, was to seed the “Reconnect” concept. Materialised
primarily on Letsreconnect.com (content hub), the core idea was promoted by “Kids React to Nature” videos that soon
became enormously successful and popular.

Now, after the world premieres in Berlin and in Paris, the campaign is entering the pre-sales & launch stage whose main
focus is on the KODIAQ's features that make it possible for our audience to actually reconnect – using customer-centred
online mobile services, new comfort solutions, extra seats & space and top-class handling and driving capabilities.

Playing (of course) an important role, the KODIAQ's design is presented with due pride yet with a healthy amount
of humbleness. Design-related films have been produced to explain and show the key sources of design inspiration.

6.2 Pre-launch & launch communication assets

In the pre-sales period, the following assets are recommended to localise the campaign with the objective
of maintaining momentum and fuelling customers' interest sparked by the Paris Motor Show:

Localised Letsreconnect.com microsite

“Kids react to Nature” videos
Berlin World Premiere highlight film
KODIAQ design film
Launch & Training Guide

KODIAQ product brochure

KODIAQ emotional-positioning film

154
The following key assets will be produced and delivered to the markets to support the product-launch communication
during the launch stage:

TVCs – two versions of different lengths

Product film – KODIAQ's key features presented through a “modular story”
Sales literature – off-line & online versions
Various print & out of home visuals
Online advertising content
Market-specific digital media content
POS package
Product-specific merchandise

All assets and “activation” guidelines will be available on the ŠKODA MilkyWay platform, and the markets will be
informed of the expected actions.

Proper setting of the campaign's communication KPIs and their monitoring is vital – in this connection, the ŠKODA
Launch Track platform is the key reporting tool on both ŠKODA HQ and importer levels.

Please stay tuned for regular updates and feel free to approach the ŠKODA Marketing Team if you have any queries,
comments or suggestions!

8.3 Other chapters

Market
› The SUV segment has been growing consistently since 2010. A-SUVs, as well as their bigger “siblings” are becoming
increasingly popular, and the KODIAQ is therefore likely to be a success, too.
› The main portion of KODIAQ sales will be generated by ŠKODA's traditionally strong markets such as Germany,
the UK, Poland, the Czech Republic (domestic market), etc.
Customers
› The KODIAQ is ŠKODA's contribution to the growing A-SUV segment. Our newcomer will lure two basic target
groups to your dealerships: “full-nesters” (still having children at home) and “empty-nesters” (with adult offsprings).
› What does the KODIAQ offer to attract corporate customers? A high variety of drivetrains and accessories plus
high flexibility in configuring all of the available solutions. Using a single model, you can approach a wide range
of potential customers, offering a powerful tool to fieldwork staff, as well as a status car to company owners.
Competition
› The segment in which the ŠKODA KODIAQ will compete is highly attractive. Customers have come to like these
roomy, robust and yet elegant cars – an SUV can meet the requirement for a car for family use, spare time and work.
› The KODIAQ offers an excellent utilisation of the interior space, and although it does not dominate the market
across all dimensions, the size of its boot is unrivalled.
› The KODIAQ wins also in terms of the maximum luggage transportation capacity.
› The KODIAQ is one of the most economical (environmentally-friendly) cars across the whole field of 7-seat SUV
competitors.
Summary

8 Summary

› The KODIAQ offers a number of unrivalled solutions:

– Clear technological dominance (ACT – cylinder deactivation, DCC – adaptive chassis, cutting-edge 4×4)
– State-of-the-art connectivity solutions (ŠKODA Connect, Phone Box with wireless charging)
– Strongly comfort- and practicality-oriented (3-zone electronically-controlled air-conditioning, 7 seats, Sleep Pack,
Door Edge Protection)
– Most extensive portfolio of lightweight alloy wheels
Marketing communication
› Together with the ŠKODA model offensive and in line with ŠKODA's “Driven by Inventiveness” brand core,
ŠKODA has recently launched “Reconnect”, a campaign designed to promote its new big SUV – the KODIAQ.
› The Reconnect campaign is based on consumer insight showing that kids spend too much time indoors, glued to
their PC screens and isolated from each other. In fact, many of us adults do, too. We are losing touch with what
matters most – family, friends and Mother Nature – and that makes us frustrated.
› The KODIAQ is presented as a response to this social truth, and as a perfect solution: it is designed to
accommodate families and friends while helping them reconnect with each other and the “natural world”.
No matter where they are, the users can always be powered by the KODIAQ's driving capabilities and enjoy its
advanced comfort and connectivity systems.
Aftersales
› MyŠKODA application is provided for smartphones with Android or iOS systems. Its principal task is to help you
as a customer of ŠKODA AUTO in difficult situations when on the road. With its notification functionalities,
the app will also advise its user not to miss important events.
› As part of the ŠKODA Genuine Accessories product range for the KODIAQ, it is possible to purchase items like child
seats, roof racks, alloy wheels further expanding the range of factory-fitted ones, elements for individualisation
of both interior and exterior design, and a whole range of accessories improving both utility value and individual
