Personal Statement

Throughout my life I always believed that I was born to do great things, since I was a child, my
family went through a lot of economic difficulties, there were days that we did not have much to
eat. I am in this position thanks to my determination to overcome all obstacles. They made me
stronger, because I learned to turn the negative things into positive things and see the bright side
in every situation.
While I was in high school, I set up my mind to be the number one in my class, because I knew
that education was the doorway to opportunities. Thanks to my high scores I received two
scholarships to cover my college tuition. In college, I valued every opportunity that made me
closer to my dream, one of those opportunities was when a did my internal medicine rotation in
NY, there I met a lot of doctors that made me realize that the only thing that I needed to fulfill
my dream of becoming an internist, was drive and determination. In my last year of Medical
school, I had to work two part-time jobs to cover my USMLE expenses. I know it sounds hard to
believe, but I think that going through that period of my life only made me value every experience
even more, and I was able to see things from a different perspective.
All those sacrifices taught me that by working hard and chasing our dreams we can do anything
we want in this lifetime and I'm the living proof of that. Just the fact of being able to apply to this
internal medicine program, help me realize that those things that may seem impossible, are
transformed into our reality because we can, despite adversity, carry on.
I realized that internal medicine was my passion while I was in medical school. I always wanted
to handle a lot of knowledge and know about everything. I later one became aware that by being
a doctor in internal medicine, I'm able to help patients in a broader spectrum. Also, internal
medicine will be the door to many sub-specialties that have captured my eye. I hope that one
day my journey can inspire others the same way I am inspired by my attendings and all the other
doctors I have worked with. I am a true believer that ordinary people can do extraordinary things,
and if I get the chance to be part of this team, I will dedicate every day of my preparation to
become a better professional and to exceed every expectation the same way I have done on
every scenario of my life. I must admit that many times, I felt I was not living my life, due to all
the hardships I went through, but today I can say I am more alive than ever and that is because
of my capacity to never give up and follow my dreams.
I firmly believe this program will help me evolve to the next level in my career, surrounded by
high-class professionals, that will show me how to transform my weaknesses into strength, and
becoming a better version of myself every day. Thanks to my past, I am a person that nothing is
too much to ask, I've learned the true meaning of discipline and being able to listen and
communicate effectively, always focusing on the patients need with respect and empathy,
treating every patient the same way we would like to be treated.
I think my experiences would make me a great element to add to this program, I'm a responsible,
passionate and a driven professional who can cover all the bases required, from being a team player
to becoming the one in charge. I would like to put at your disposal all my qualities to make things
better in the medical environment, because I think that at the end of the day our main goal as
physicians is to make our patient's life better.
