HACKATHON THEME 1

EDUCATION

SUBJECT

Distance learning is education in one form or another offered to you over a

distance. In other words you learn, you study and qualify in your chosen subject
through the post or online without having to attend an exam centre or an actual
bricks and mortar college building or university campus. Our subject in education
theme is building AI products assisting learners to perform effective and efficient
distant learning.
HACKATHON THEME 1

EDUCATION

SUGGESTED IDEAS

- Teaching assistant: A virtual assistant to students to help answering routine questions like
the ins and outs of life on campus from students.
- Intelligent tutoring system: A system provides personalized tutoring and real time
feedbacks for students. This will provides scenario-based learning to students based on
their levels, needs and motivation in life
- Smart feedbacks: A system can provide feedbacks on a specific subjects, for example:
English, Math… Think of Elsa Speak as an example.

NOTE:
Additional points for teams who can develop products integrating with Topica education
ecosystem.
HACKATHON THEME 2

HEALTH CARE

SUBJECT

The world is ageing. Globally, the number of persons aged 60 or over is projected to
double by 2050, from 1 billion in 2015 to 2.1 billion in 2050. By 2100 it is expected to
increase to 3.1 billion, nearly 3 times its value in 2017. The assisted living industry
is attracting innovations at a rapid pace. These innovations becoming increasingly
important as the countries of the world deal with the elderly population explosion in
the coming decades. Our subject in healthcare theme is building AI products
assisting elderly care in both mental and physical health.
HACKATHON THEME 2

HEALTH CARE
SUGGESTED IDEAS
- Virtual friends for elder people to help them combat loneliness, these friends can talk,
answer questions, pretend to be an animal or connect to their relatives
- Medication management bot taking elders’ prescriptions, reminding them on taking
medicines, connecting them to doctors to manage their condition.
- Outdoor companion for elder people: A bot that can support elder people in the outdoor
environment. This bot can support them to shop in convenience store, walk through the
city or even become a guide to travel with elder people.

NOTE:
Additional points for teams who can develop products integrating with the Ohmnilabs robot.
HACKATHON THEME 3

RETAIL

SUBJECT

Artificial intelligence is already changing the way we shop and buy from making
credit decisions faster to allowing us to use our voices to buy products. Artificial
intelligence has the potential to completely transform the traditional retail
experience and take it to the next level with personalization, automation and
increased efficiency. Our subject for retail is to bring innovation into the process of
traditional retail process, focusing on 2 aspects: Operations and Customer
Experience
HACKATHON THEME 3

RETAIL
SUGGESTED IDEAS:

- Inventory management/ procurement: F&B retailers can have staff or robot taking photos of
store shelves to initiate a machine learning process that automatically detects missing or
misplaced items and notifies stakeholders to restock or make corrections. For procurement,
employees can take a photo of an item to activate an automated database search for the
exact item or an equivalent product.
- Personalized customer service: Identifying customers from the point they walk into the store,
noticing their emotions, their preference in their foods, automate their orders.
- Consumer feedback via internet: A system that crawls feedbacks of consumers from the
internet, analyzing these datas, identifying their sentiments or behavior and supporting in
building a positive experience for them in store or online

NOTE:
Additional points for teams who can develop products focusing on problems of retail chain focusing
on F&B (foods and beverages) and fashion.
HACKATHON THEME 3

RETAIL
REAL CASES FOR MENTORSHIP (FOR YOUR INFORMATION ONLY)

- AI engine for stock replenishment for a store chain of a fashion retailers (each with hundred
thousands of SKUs), to minimize out-of-stock situation, maximizing sales volume. At the same
time, this will help maximize sales values via minimizing products being put under discount
markdown. Data provided will be sales data of the last few years in operations
- Personalized experience for customers (on Mobile UI first): based on history of transactions,
recommending products for mobile users, across multiple channels like voice, touch...
- Profiling customers using big data from the customer management system & crawled data
from the internet (social media, wifi, camera network, etc…)

NOTE:
Upon winning the hackathon in 1 of 3 locations (Ho Chi Minh City, Danang, Hanoi), teams
developing products that match with these retailer’ cases will be connected to them for data &
future business adjustments
HACKATHON THEME 4

SOCIAL ISSUES: WOMEN & CHILDREN

SUBJECT

Nowadays children and women are facing many security related problems. In such
situations, they are helpless and don't have any way to protect them or inform it to
their family members, neighbours or police station and they feel as handicaps.
Hence there should be a system to protect them in such times. Our subject in social
issue theme is building AI products helping ensure the crime safety security of
women and children in our society.
HACKATHON THEME 4

SOCIAL ISSUES: WOMEN & CHILDREN

SUGGESTED IDEAS:
Some related issues like the following can be addressed:
- Human trafficking: A bot that supports answering questions relating to human
trafficking, helping victims to quickly contact the polices
- Illegal abuse of children work: A system that can help reporting the act of abusing
children in labor via taking pictures
- Sexual harassment: Victims of sexual harassment in elevators might not be able
to report the problem to legal authorities without evidence. How can we track the
people who perform these illegal acts?

This is especially a social issue, so there is no additional point from our corporate
partners, but it would be worth additional attention to your solution.
JUDGING PROCESS

Elevator Pitch: Each team has 2 minutes to present their project to

the judges who would go around the showcases. If

the judges are interested, that team will have

another 2 minutes for quick Q&A.

Demo: 8-10 top performing teams from Elevator Pitch

Round will give their product demonstrations in

front of the Judge Board and audience. Then their

coding will be assessed.
