The prophet, Shemaiah came to tell them that it is God’s doing that he tore away 10 tribes of the

Why did the Levites came to Judah and Jerusalem and side with Rehoboam?
Because Jeroboam and his sons rejected them as priests of God. Jeroboam appointed his own
priests for the high places, goat and calf idols (v. 14-15).

Because Rehoboam had abandoned God’s commandments so he now delivered him into the
hands of Shishak (v. 5).

What did Shishak carried off when he attacked Jerusalem?


He carried off all the treasures in the temple and royal palace. He also took away the gold shields
that Solomon made. Rehoboam made bronze shields to replace them (v. 9-10).

Asa humbled himself and called on God to help him defeat the vast army of the Cushites (v. 11-
12).

Azariah advised King Asa to seek God and walk in his commandments and his work will be

What did King Asa do after he heard to message of Azariah?
King Asa eliminated the idols from Judah, Benjamin and the towns he captured in the hills of
Ephraim. He also repaired the altar at the temple (v. 8). He and the Israelites including Judah,
Benjamin, Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon assembled at Jerusalem in his 15th year to make a
covenant to seek God with all their heart and soul (v. 9-12). He also deposed his grandmother
Maacah because she made a repulsive image to Asherah. Asa cut down the Asherah pole and
burned it in Kidron Valley (v. 16).

How did Asa make Baasha retreat?


Asa took the silver and gold from the temple and palace treasuries to hire Ben Hadad to help him
make Baasha withdraw. King Ben Hadad and his army attacked Ijon, Dan, Abel Maima and all
the store cities of Naphtali. When Baasha heard about it, he stopped his building at Ramah and
withdrawed (v. 2-6).

Why did Hanani rebuked Asa? What was Asa’s reaction?


Because Asa did not rely on God but he relied on Ben Hadad to help him make Baasha
withdraw. Asa was angry and he locked up Hanani and brutally oppressed a number of people (v.
7-10).

What disease did Asa suffered fro at the end of his life?
Asa suffered from a serious feet disease but he did not seek God’s help in his illness. He only
sought help from the physicians (v. 12).

Jehoshaphat sent a number of Levites to teach the people about God’s commandments from the
Book of the Law (v. 7-9).

What did Micaiah prophesied about Ahab?


Micaiah said he saw multitudes standing on the right and left of God’s throne. God asked who
will go to attack Ramoth Gilead and a spirit suggested that he will entice him by becoming a
deceiving spirit in the mouths of all the prophets. This means that Ahab should not go to war
against Ramoth Gilead as doing so means it is a death sentence on him (v. 17-21).
What did Ahab do to Micaiah?
Ahab had Micaiah kept in prison and provided with bread and water until he return safely (v.
26),

No. Ahab went into war in disguise along with Jehoshaphat who was wearing his royal robe.
Someone shot a random arrow and it hit Ahab so that he died (v. 28-34).

Who did Jehoshaphat appointed?


Jehoshaphat appointed judges to administer cases according to the law of God in Judah and
Jerusalem (v. 5-6, v. 8).

How did Jehoshaphat defeat Moab and Ammon?


Jehoshaphat and the people sought the help of GOd. He and the people of Judah worshiped and
praise God. Then, God sent Jahaziel, son of Zechariah with the message that God will help them
to fight the war so that they don’t have to fight at all and they will win. As Jehoshaphat and his
army set out, they sang and praised God. When they began to sing and praise, God made the
Ammonites and Moabites fought against the Edomites and then they finally slaughter each other.
When the armies of Judah arrived, they saw dead bodies everywhere and all they need to do is to
collect the plunder. They took 3 days to collect all the plunder (v. 1 – 25)

How did God punish Jehoram for forsaking his commandments?


God delivered Jehoram into the hands of the Philistines and Arab. They carried off all he goods
in the palace along with his sons and wives. No son was left except the younges, Ahaziah. He
also punish Jehoram with an incurable disease that caused his bowels to come out (v. 10-19)

How did Ahaziah died?


Ahaziah was killed by one of Jehu’s man. At that time, he traveled to Jezreel to see Joram, who
was recuperating from a would as a result of a war against the Syrians at Ramoth Gilead. Jehu
killed Joram, to carry out God’s command. He was buried, because he was the son of Jehoshapat,
a king who sought God with his heart. Jehu also killed the officials of Judah and the sons of
Ahaziah’s relatives (v. 5-9).

Who take over Judah after the death of Ahaziah?


Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah killed the entire household of Ahaziah but the Jehosheba, and
the priest Jehoiada managed to hid the child in a room at the temple for 6 years (v. 10-12).

How was Joash crowned as king of Judah?


Jehoiada appointed guards to protect Joash. The guards were armed with spears, large shields
and small shields that belonged to King David. Then, Jehoiada and his sons put the king’s crown
on Joash. They anointed him and shouted, “Long live the king” (v. 9-11).

Did Athaliah found out that Joash was crowned as king?


Yes. She heard the noises of the people running and cheering the king. When she found out, she
tore her robes and shouted treachery but the guards seized her and killed her at the entrance of
the Horse Gate (v. 12-15).

Joash had the Levites collect money from the people to repair the temple. At first, the Levites did
not do what Joash said. After that, a chest was made and placed outside to collect money.
Enough money was collected and they were used to pay the masons and carpenter to repair the
temple (v. 1-14).

What is the wickedness of Joash?


Joash forsook God’s commandments as he listened to the advice of the officials who encouraged
him to worship Asherah poles and idols. This happened after the death of Jehoiada. When
Zechariah son of Jehoiada rebuked him, he ordered his men to stone him to death.

What did Zechariah ask God to do?


Zechariah ask God to deal with Joash for stoning him to death (v. 22).

How did God punish Jehoiada?


God sent teh syrians to attack Jerusalem. Joash was seriously injured when the Syrians withdrew.
Later, his officials assassinated him on his bed for kiling Zechariah, the son of Jehoiada (v. 23-
25).

How many Edomites did Amaziah killed at the Valley of Salt?


10,000 Edomites (v. 11).

What did Amaziah brought back from Seir?


Amaziah brought back the gods of the people of Seir and set them up. He bowed down and
offered burnt sacrifices to these idols (v. 14).

What made Amaziah challenged Jehoash to battle?


Amaziah became proud because he defeated 10,000 Edomites at the Valley of Salt. Eventually,
Amaziah lost to Jehoash. Jehoash carried away all the gold, silver and articles in the temple. He
destroyed the part of the wall of Jerusalem from Ephraim Gate to Corner Gate.

What sin did Uzziah committed that made him suffer from leprosy to the day of his death?
Uzziah became proud after God made him powerful. He tried to act as a priest by entering into
the temple to burn incense. He did not listened even when a few priests rebuked him. As he was
raging at the priests, God struck him with leprosy. His son, Jotham reigned in his place while he
lived in a separate house (v. 16-21).

Because he walked steadfastly in God’s commandments (v. 6).

How did Ahaz rebelled against God?


Ahaz worship idols and burnt sacrifices in the Valley of Ben Hinom, sacrificed his children in
the fire and carried out other detestable practices of the nations (v. 3).

How did God punish Ahaz?


God delivered Ahaz into the hands of the Syrians and King Pekah of Israel. The Israelite carried
captives some of the People from Judah to the land of Israel.

Who saved the captives of Judah?


Some leaders in Ephraim confronted those arriving from war with the captives from Judah, that
they should return them otherwise they will be adding to their sin and guilt. They clothed them
properly with clothes, sandals, food and drink and healing balm and put the weak on the donkeys
(v. 14-15).

Did Ahaz changed after hr faced attacks from the Edomites, Philistines and Assyrians?
No Ahaz became even more unfaithful. He made offerings to the gods of Syrians because he
reasoned it is the gods of the Syrians that helped them (v. 16-23).

How did Hezekiah obeyed God?


Hezekiah had the Levites carried everything unclean from the temple (v. 5), consecrated the
priests and reestablished the temple service (v. 35).

Why did God punish Judah according to Hezekiah?


The people of Judah was unfaithful and forsook God. They shut the doors of the portico, put out
the lamps, did not burn incense, or present burnt offerings at the temple (v. 6-7).

Why did Hezekiah invited everyone to come to the temple?


Hezekiah invited everyone to come to the temple to celebrate Passover (v. 1).

Hezekiah prospered because he do God’s commandments and sought him wholeheartedly (v.
21).

How did Sennacherib mock Hezekiah?
Sennacherib mocked God, comparing him to the gods of the nations he had defeated. He
encouraged the people to surrender since the gods of the nations he conquered were not able to
help as well (v. 1-15).

What did Hezekiah do when he learned about Sennacherib’s message?


Hezekiah prayed and he sent men to inquire the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah told Hezekiah not to worry
as God will make Sennacherib withdraw and he will die in his own country. God sent an anger to
kill all the men in the camp of Sennacherib. Sennacherib was terrified and he returned home.
One day, his sons assassinated him while he was worshiping at the temple of his god (v. 16-21).

What evil did Manasseh do?


Manasseh commit an even more worse idolatry sin than the previous kings. He built altars in the
temple. He sacrificed his children in the Valley of Ben Hinnom, practiced witchcraft, sought
omens, consulted mediums and spiritists. He also put the image he had made in the temple (v. 6-
7).

How did God punish Manasseh?


God sent the Assyrians to attack Judah. They took put a hook in Manasseh’s nose, bound him in
bronze shackles and carried him away as captive to Babylon (v. 11).

Did Manasseh repent?


Yes. Manasseh humbled down and confessed his sins to God while he was in captivity. God
heard Manasseh’s prayer and he was set free and able to return to Jerusalem (v. 12),

Did Amon, son of Manasseh walk in obedience to God’s commandments?


Amon did not humble down himself like Manasseh. Instead, he commit even more serious
idolatry sins than his father (v. 22-23).

What is the reformation of Josiah?


He tore down the altars of Baal, smashed the Asherah poles, broke it and scattered it over the
graves of those who sacrificed to them, burned the bones of the priests on teh altars, crushed the
idols to powder and cut the incense altars to pieces (v. 4-7).

What was found during the reign of Josiah?


The priest Hilkiah found the Book of the Law and Shaphan read it to Josiah. When Josiah heard
what Shaphan read, he tore his robes and sent some men to inquire God. They inquired the
prophetess Huldah whose message was that Josiah don’t have to worry as God will not punish
Judah during his lifetime since he humble himself. However, God will surely destroy Judah
because the people have forsaken him (v. 14-31).

How long did the Israelite not celebrate Passover like how it was celeberated during the
reign of Josiah?
The Israelite had not celebrated Passover since the days of the Prophet Samuel (v. 18).

How did Josiah die?


Josiah stubbornly fought against King Necho of Egypt even after Necho said that God
commanded him to attack Carchemish on the Euphrates (v. 20-24).

Why did Nebuchadnezzar attack Jerusalem?


Because Zedekiah, the person he put in charge of ruling Jerusalem rebelled against him (v. 13).

In whose hands did Jerusalem fell into?


The Babylonians attacked Jerusalem, and bring and end to the dynasty of kings of Judah. God
sent the Babylonians to attack Jerusalem because the kings and the people forsook God’s
commandments and do evil in his eyes (v. 15-16).

When was the Israelite able to return to Jerusalem?


Seventy years after the conquer of The Babylonians on Jerusalem. It happened in the first year of
the reign of Cyrus, king of Persia (v. 20-23)
