Expert Lecture on “Coastal Reservoir Infrastructure for Indian Economical

Corridor”
Resource Person: Dr. Shu-Qing Yang
Associate Professor
School of Civil, Mining and Environmental
Engineering
Faculty of Engineering and Information Science
University of Wollongong

Dr. Shu-Qing Yang has dedicated his professional life to unlocking the challenge of
sediment - a major contributor to the reduction in supply of fresh water and which
continually reduces the storage capacity of large water bodies. Previously, he was a chair
Professor at Tianjin University, South China University of Technology, China and a
Professor at Korea Maritime University, South Korea, Principle Research Scientist at
Maritime Research Centre of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He holds a
Master and a PhD degree in Water Resources and Environmental Engineering from Nanjing
Hydraulic Research Institute and Nanyang Technological University, respectively. He has
published more than 150 papers in journals, books and conference proceedings. He has also
granted 6 patents including coastal reservoirs that can pump freshwater from the sea without
desalination processes. He won three prestigious awards, one of the best paper award was
issued by IAHR-APD, the other one by American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and
one by National People's Congress of China. He is part of the GeoQuEST Research Centre -
an interdisciplinary team that focuses on environmental and climate change research. Dr.
Yang has been involved in the study of sediment transport and hydraulics for almost 20
years.
