Hi Friends!

In this guide, I will break down for you how to study for your clinical rotations and
shelf exams.
I also include a sample calendar in the middle!
No time to waste, let’s get started!

Day One:
Pick Your Resources:
Use this day to decide on the resources you will use.
Check out the following articles for the top resources for each rotation. Refer back
to them whenever you need to know your options.
Resources for Internal Medicine
Resources for Surgery
Resources for Family Medicine
Resources for Neurology
Resources for Pediatrics
Resources for Ob-Gyn

Decide your text and question bank of choice. Often the Qbank will be UWORLD.
If you prefer not to choose a text, OnlineMedEd is a great tool to expedite your
studying without reading 500-page textbooks.
I recommend OME with UWORLD to learn the high-yield material and kill your
shelf exams.
Here’s a link which provides my readers $80 off an annual subscription to
OnlineMedEd!
Decide Your Study Schedule:
Once you decide your text, question bank, and additional resources decide the
pace you want to finish it.
For your text aim to finish it 2/3 into your rotation.
So finish a text for a 6-week rotation in 4 weeks.
This provides you enough time to spend the final two weeks doing a practice test
and reviewing.
So divide either chapters or pages by the days you have available.
Also, account for some days you don’t feel like reading. I aim to assume I’ll be
75% complaint about my schedule. Thus I schedule to read more every day to
account for days I won’t be motivated.
Use the following equation to figure out how many pages to read a day.
Pages in book _____ / (2/3 Of Weeks in Rotation X 7 * 0.75) = ______ Pages per
day
Next decide how quickly you will finish your UWORLD questions.
I like to aim to finish my UWORLD question halfway through your rotation.
So finish your questions three weeks into a six-week rotation.
Similar to the textbook, I aim to aim for a 60% compliance in doing my question.
So I overschedule to account for underperformance.
Use the following equation to find out how many questions to do per day.
Total Questions _____ / (1/2 days in rotation x 0.6 ) = ______ UWORLD
questions/day
The only exception to this is Internal Medicine where you should aim to do all the
questions 2/3 into your rotation with a 75% compliance.
Usually, this is 40 questions per night.

On the next page you’ll find a sample study calendar!

Week 1-1/2 Into Your Rotation:
Focus on sticking your best to your UWORLD questions and reading.
As you’re doing your questions, be sure to mark the questions you missed or got
correct by guessing. We’ll come back to this.
By ½ the way into your rotation you should have finished all your questions

Week 1-2/3 into your Rotation:

By now you should have also finished your text of choice.
During the first part of your final 1/3 of your rotation, begin to do your marked
questions.
Make sure you understand why you got them wrong and understand the
explanations cold!
Should take you about a week or less to do these.
Final Weeks Before Exam:
Your focus should now be on high-yield info and practice tests.
One great way to do this is using OnlineMedEd.
Watch the videos and use the premium note and you will be golden for your
exam!
Here is an $80 discount for my readers if you sign up for an annual subscription.
Disclaimer: This is an affiliate link, and I do receive a small commission for any
purchase made through this link.
I still would (and have) recommended OME before partnering with them.
Watch the OME videos your final week and get ready to do NBME practice exam 1
and one at the end of this week.
Your final week will be for NBME exam 3 and 4 (if applicable) and review your
notes for any topics you miss.
Then kill your shelf exam!
