Asa Upham of Sturbridge in the County of Worcester and Province 4
of Massachusetts Bay, Cordwainer, to Timothy Newell of Sturbridge,
Wheelwright, in consideration of Eight Pounds, Lawful Money.
“Certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in Sturbridge
aforesaid Bounded as follows viz Beginning at a heap of stones about
amile and a half from the Meeting House on the West side of the roed i
that leads to Capt. Walker's on the North line of Saltonstall's farm, i
or grent, so called thence West 2 degrees North about eighty rods to }
a stake and stones Northerly on land of Benj. Furnas, thence Southerly
to a stake and stones about twenty rods on lana ef said Newell thence
East 2 degrees South to the road thence Northerly to where it first |

. Mr. Newell is also called Yeoman, Gentleman and after the
_ Revolutionary War is referred to as General Timothy Newell. -
He hus on record a lerge mumber of real estate deeds, some
fifty or sixty.
MBETING HOUSE TRACT of six ecrés was conveyed by Richard
Christopher et eli. to Jonas Houghton, Ebenezer Learning and other

Gelieral Timothy Newell, was born in Waltham, Mess in 1742 and |
came to Sturbridge about 1763. -He was a wheelwright and Manufacturer {|
of Spinning Wheels, Chairs and Rales, became wealthy and an owner of a |
large amount of Roal Estate. |
He raised a Company for service in the early part of Revolutinary |
War called “The Grenadiers and entered tho War as Brigade Major. |
At bhe time of Shay's Rebellion he was a Major General of Millitia |
and was one of the leaders in quelling the Rebellion im 1786s &:
